What it is

Holle Banana Lama Organic Fruit Puree Pouch, banana with apple, mango and apricot, 100 g, from 6 months

Banana Lama is a Holle organic fruit puree pouch for babies from 6 months. It holds 100 g of smooth puree built on banana 46 percent, with apple 33 percent, mango 14 percent and apricot 6.9 percent and a trace of lemon juice concentrate. The fruit is Demeter quality from biodynamic agriculture and the pouch carries the EU Organic seal. It is gluten-free, lactose-free, vegan and has no added sugar.

This is the banana one. Banana is nearly half the pouch, which makes it the thickest and sweetest of the simple fruit pouches, and apple fills most of the rest. Mango and apricot are the two that give it its character: both are stone fruits with a deeper, slightly tart edge, and at 14 and 6.9 percent they are present enough to taste without taking the pouch away from being recognisably a banana puree.

Four fruits is a step up from a two or three-fruit pouch, and worth noticing before you buy. Mango and apricot are not usually among the first foods a baby meets. If either is new, it is sensible to meet it on its own first, a few days apart from anything else new, so that you know which fruit you are looking at if something disagrees. Once both have been had singly, a pouch like this becomes an easy next step.

The Demeter mark is the detail that separates this from an ordinary organic baby food pouch. EU Organic is the standard every organic food in Europe must meet. Demeter certifies biodynamic farming, which is held in addition to organic certification rather than instead of it. The banana, apple, mango and apricot here are all declared as biodynamic; only the lemon juice concentrate, at 0.1 percent, is organic rather than biodynamic.

Holle gives the country of origin for the main ingredients as Italy. As a European baby food pouch it is made for the gap between meals: a snack, something to put in a bag, or a sweet end to a meal. It is not a breakfast and it is not a meal replacement. The cap reseals, so half a pouch can go back in the fridge.

Where it fits

Where this pouch sits in the weaning day

Holle describes the pouches as a snack between meals or on the go, within a mixed weaning diet from six months. A 100 g pouch of fruit is a snack rather than a lunch, and it belongs alongside the vegetables, grains and protein foods your baby is working through rather than in place of them.

Banana-led pouches have a particular use. Banana is filling and sweet, so this is the one that tends to get accepted on a day when nothing else is being accepted. That usefulness is also the reason to keep an eye on it: a sweet pouch that always works can quietly crowd out the vegetable purees that take more persuading. It is a tool for a difficult afternoon, not the default.

On texture, it is smooth with no pieces, so it suits a baby who is still learning to move food around their mouth. As your baby moves on to lumpier food the pouch does not stop being useful, but it changes job: it becomes the snack and the thing you take out with you, not the centre of the meal.

Spoon it, do not let your baby suck on the pouch

Holle's own instruction is to feed the puree with a spoon and not to let a child suck on the pouch continuously, because prolonged contact between fruit sugars and new teeth is linked to tooth decay. Squeeze a little onto a spoon or into a bowl and feed from there. On a pouch that is 46 percent banana, this matters more rather than less.

Serving it

How to serve Banana Lama

Read this before the first pouch

Feed the puree with a spoon and do not let your child suck on the pouch continuously. Keep the screw cap out of reach of children, because a small cap is a choking hazard. Serve food fresh and do not heat the puree in a microwave. Once opened, the pouch can be stored in the fridge for 2 days.

Max 50 °CIf you warm it, in water
No microwaveHolle's own instruction
1

Check the pouch first

Before opening, look it over. The pouch should be sealed and flat rather than swollen, with no leaks, and the cap should still be firmly in place.

2

Warm it only in water

Most babies take it cool or at room temperature. If you want it warmer, stand the closed pouch in hot water at no more than 50 degrees Celsius. Never use a microwave.

3

Unscrew the cap and put it away

Take the cap off and move it out of reach before you do anything else. A screw cap left on a table is the sort of small object a baby reaches for first.

4

Squeeze a little onto a spoon

Squeeze some onto a spoon or into a small bowl. A bowl is easier if you want to see how much is actually going in, and it is simpler to stop halfway.

5

Feed at your baby's pace

Offer a spoonful and wait for the next one to be wanted. This puree is thick and sweet, so it disappears quickly if nobody is setting the pace.

6

Reseal and refrigerate the rest

Screw the cap back on, put the pouch in the fridge and use it within 2 days. Feed from a spoon rather than returning a used spoon to the pouch.

Feed with a spoon and keep the cap out of reach. Continuous sucking from the pouch is linked to tooth decay. The screw cap is small enough to be a choking hazard. Do not heat the puree in a microwave, and use an opened pouch within 2 days from the fridge.
The four fruits

What each fruit is doing in this pouch

A four-fruit pouch is worth reading rather than skimming, because the two smaller fruits are the ones most likely to be new to your baby.

Fruit Share What it brings Farming
Banana 46% Body, thickness and most of the sweetness Biodynamic
Apple 33% Lightens the texture, the usual base fruit Biodynamic
Mango 14% A deeper, slightly scented note Biodynamic
Apricot 6.9% The tart edge that stops it tasting flat Biodynamic
Lemon juice concentrate 0.1% Keeps the colour from browning Organic

Percentages and the farming designations are reproduced from the ingredient declaration printed on this pouch. Mango and apricot are the two fruits here least likely to have been met before; if either is new, introduce it on its own first.

Ingredients and allergens

What is in it

No added sugar, and that needs a footnote

No sugar is added to this pouch. Fruit contains sugar naturally, so the puree is sweet and the panel on the pack shows sugars. On a pouch that is 46 percent banana those natural sugars are the highest in the simple fruit range, which is the reason the spoon instruction is on the pack.

ALLERGY ADVICE: for the EU 14 major food allergens, including cereals containing gluten, see ingredients in CAPITAL LETTERS (if any). No ingredient in this list is capitalised, so no EU major allergen is declared for this pouch. It is gluten-free and lactose-free.

Reproduced word for word from the ingredient and allergy declaration printed on this pouch. No per-100-gram nutrition panel is reproduced here, because the published figures for the Holle pouch range disagree between sources and we will not print a number we cannot stand behind. The panel on the pouch you receive is the one that governs.

Read plainly, that is four fruits, a drop of lemon juice concentrate and nothing else. No water, no starch, no thickener, no added vitamin and no preservative appear in the list.

What one 100 g pouch gives you

This listing is one 100 g pouch with a resealable screw cap. Holle states the packaging is 100 percent BPA-free and the cap is recyclable.

We do not give a figure for how many pouches a baby gets through in a month. Holle publishes no feeding quantity for the pouches and no recommended number per day or week, and the honest answer depends on how much milk and how much family food a particular baby is taking that month. Treat a pouch as a snack and let the rest of the diet set the number.

The 100 g net weight is the figure published for this pouch by its European retailers, who agree on it. No number of pouches per day, per week or per month is stated, because no such guidance is published for this product.

Questions parents ask

Frequently asked questions

From what age can my baby have Banana Lama?

From 6 months, which is the age on this product, as part of a mixed weaning diet. Mango and apricot are the two fruits in it least likely to have been met before, so introduce those on their own first if they are new.

Can my baby eat straight from the pouch?

Holle's instruction is to feed the puree with a spoon and not to let a child suck on the pouch continuously, because that is linked to tooth decay. Squeeze a little onto a spoon or into a bowl.

What is in it?

Banana 46 percent, apple 33 percent, mango 14 percent, apricot 6.9 percent and lemon juice concentrate 0.1 percent. The four fruits are biodynamic, the lemon juice concentrate is organic.

Is there any added sugar?

No sugar is added. It is sweet because fruit contains sugar naturally, and with banana at 46 percent this is one of the sweeter pouches in the range, but none of that sugar has been put in.

Is it vegan?

Yes. There is no milk, egg or other animal ingredient in the list. Holle's own yogurt pouches are a separate line and those are not vegan.

Is it gluten-free?

Yes. There is no cereal in this pouch and it is gluten-free and lactose-free. Other pouches in the Holle range do contain oats or spelt, so check the one you are buying.

What does Demeter mean?

Demeter is the certification for biodynamic farming, held in addition to organic certification. A pouch carrying both meets the EU organic rules and a stricter private standard on top of them.

How long does an opened pouch keep?

Screw the cap back on and keep it in the fridge for up to 2 days. Serve the food fresh and do not heat the puree in a microwave.

Where does the fruit come from?

Holle gives the country of origin for the main ingredients as Italy on this pouch's declaration.

The age and the pack size shown on this page are taken from the product itself. No per-100-gram nutrition panel is reproduced, because the published figures for the Holle pouch range disagree between sources. No feeding quantity, daily portion or monthly consumption figure is stated, because Holle publishes none for the pouches. Last reviewed 15 October 2026.
