Stage 3 Toddler Formula (12+ Months)

Stage 3 toddler formula — also sold as growing-up milk — is for children from twelve months, once most nutrition comes from food. It is a fortified milk drink rather than a sole source of nutrition, typically carrying added iron, vitamin D and omega-3 DHA that a toddler diet can fall short on.

Does a toddler need it?

• It is optional. A toddler eating a varied diet can move to whole cow’s milk at twelve months. Growing-up milk is a fortified alternative, most useful for fussy eaters or where iron and vitamin D intake is a concern.
• It is not a replacement for meals. One to two cups a day alongside food is the usual pattern.
• Check the sugar line. Growing-up milks vary. The European ranges here rely on lactose rather than added sugars — each product page lists the carbohydrate breakdown.
• Goat milk is an option here too if your toddler has been on a goat formula already.

Questions parents ask

Stage 3 or regular cow’s milk? Both are reasonable at twelve months. Plain milk is simpler and cheaper; growing-up milk adds iron, vitamin D and DHA. Your pediatrician can tell you whether your toddler needs the fortification.

How long can they stay on it? Most ranges run to two or three years, and some carry a Stage 4 beyond that. There is no harm in stopping earlier.
