Holle Blue Bird Organic Puree Pouch, pear and apple with blueberries and oats, 100 g, from 6 months
Blue Bird is a Holle organic fruit and cereal puree pouch for babies from 6 months. It holds 100 g of smooth puree made from pear 50 percent, apple 37.5 percent, blueberry 10 percent and wholegrain OATS 2.5 percent. The fruit is Demeter quality and the pouch carries the EU Organic seal. It has no added sugar, is lactose-free and is vegan. Because of the oats it contains gluten, and that is the one thing to check before you buy it.
The oats are what make this pouch different from the rest of the range. At 2.5 percent they are a small part of the recipe, but they change what the pouch is for: a little wholegrain cereal makes the puree more filling and more substantial than fruit alone, which is why Holle positions this one as part of a breakfast as well as a snack.
That same 2.5 percent is also the reason the ingredient declaration prints OATS in capital letters. Under the EU labelling rules, capitals in an ingredient list mark one of the 14 major allergens, and oats are a cereal containing gluten. This pouch is therefore not gluten-free, and no gluten-free claim should be read into it. Most of the other Holle fruit pouches contain no cereal at all and are gluten-free; this one is the exception.
On flavour it is pear-led rather than apple-led, which is unusual in this range and makes it noticeably milder. Pear at 50 percent is the gentlest of the common weaning fruits, apple fills most of the rest, and the blueberries at 10 percent give the pouch its colour and a slight depth without making it sharp.
The Demeter mark is held in addition to organic certification, not instead of it: EU Organic is the standard every organic baby food in Europe must meet, and Demeter certifies biodynamic farming on top of that. Here the pear, apple and oats are declared as biodynamic and the blueberry as organic. Holle gives the country of origin for the main ingredients as Italy.

Where it fits
Where this pouch sits in the weaning day
Holle describes this one as suiting a filling breakfast, an energy-boosting snack, or a simple pudding. The oats are why breakfast is on that list: fruit alone empties quickly, and a wholegrain cereal, even a small amount of it, gives the pouch more staying power.
It is still a snack-sized portion rather than a meal. One hundred grams of fruit puree with a little oat in it is not a substitute for a proper breakfast cereal made up with milk or formula, and it works best as part of a mixed weaning diet alongside the vegetables, grains and protein foods your baby is being introduced to.
The oats are also the thing to time properly. If your baby has not yet had oats, this pouch is not the place to meet them, because a new cereal arriving alongside blueberries means you cannot tell which one disagreed if something does. Oats on their own first, a few days apart from anything else new, then this pouch.
If you need a gluten-free pouch
This one is not it. The oats in it are a cereal containing gluten and are declared as an allergen. For a pouch with no cereal at all, Holle Apple Ant is apple, banana and pear only, and Holle Fennel Frog is pear, apple and fennel. Both are from 6 months. Check the panel on the pouch you buy.
Serving it
How to serve Blue Bird
Read this before the first pouch
Feed the puree with a spoon and do not let your child suck on the pouch continuously, which is linked to tooth decay. Keep the screw cap out of reach of children, because a small cap is a choking hazard. Serve food fresh and do not heat the puree in a microwave. Once opened, the pouch can be stored in the fridge for 2 days.

1
Check the pouch first
Look it over before opening. It should be sealed and flat rather than swollen, with no leaks, and the screw cap should still be firmly in place.
2
Warm it only in water
Most babies take it cool or at room temperature. If you want it warmer, stand the closed pouch in hot water at no more than 50 degrees Celsius. Never use a microwave.
3
Unscrew the cap and put it away
Take the cap off and move it out of reach before anything else. A screw cap left within reach is the sort of small object a baby goes for first.
4
Squeeze a little onto a spoon
Squeeze some onto a spoon or into a bowl. Blueberry puree stains, so a bowl and a bib are worth the extra thirty seconds.
5
Give it a stir
A pouch with oats in it can separate slightly as it stands. Stirring the spoonful through evens out the texture before it reaches your baby.
6
Reseal and refrigerate the rest
Screw the cap back on, put the pouch in the fridge and use it within 2 days. Feed from a spoon rather than returning a used spoon to the pouch.
Contains gluten, and must be fed with a spoon. The OATS in this pouch are a cereal containing gluten and are declared as an allergen. Continuous sucking from the pouch is linked to tooth decay, and the screw cap is small enough to be a choking hazard. Do not heat the puree in a microwave, and use an opened pouch within 2 days from the fridge.

ALLERGY ADVICE: for the EU 14 major food allergens, including cereals containing gluten, see ingredients in CAPITAL LETTERS (if any). OATS is capitalised, so oats are the declared allergen on this pouch.
Reproduced word for word from the ingredient and allergy declaration printed on this pouch. No per-100-gram nutrition panel is reproduced here, because the published figures for the Holle pouch range disagree between sources and we will not print a number we cannot stand behind. The panel on the pouch you receive is the one that governs.
Read plainly, that is three fruits, a little wholegrain oat, and nothing else. No water, no starch, no thickener, no added sugar, no added vitamin and no preservative appear in the list.

We do not give a figure for how many pouches a baby gets through in a month. Holle publishes no feeding quantity for the pouches and no recommended number per day or per week, and the honest answer depends on how much milk and how much family food a particular baby is taking. Treat a pouch as a snack and let the rest of the diet set the number.
The 100 g net weight is the figure published for this pouch by its European retailers, who agree on it. No number of pouches per day, per week or per month is stated, because no such guidance is published for this product.

Questions parents ask
Frequently asked questions
From what age can my baby have Blue Bird?
From 6 months, which is the age on this product, as part of a mixed weaning diet. If your baby has not yet had oats, meet those on their own first.
Is it gluten-free?
No. It contains wholegrain OATS at 2.5 percent, which are a cereal containing gluten, and oats are the declared allergen on the pack. We make no gluten-free claim for it.
What is in it?
Pear 50 percent, apple 37.5 percent, blueberry 10 percent and wholegrain oats 2.5 percent. The pear, apple and oats are biodynamic, the blueberry is organic. Nothing else is in the list.
Why does it have oats in it?
The oats make the puree more filling than fruit alone, which is why Holle suggests this one as part of a breakfast as well as a snack.
Is there any added sugar?
No sugar is added. It is sweet because fruit contains sugar naturally, and the panel on the pack shows those sugars, but none of it has been put in.
Is it vegan?
Yes. There is no milk, egg or other animal ingredient in the list. Holle's yogurt pouches are a separate line and those are not vegan.
Can my baby eat straight from the pouch?
Holle's instruction is to feed the puree with a spoon and not to let a child suck on the pouch continuously, because that is linked to tooth decay.
How long does an opened pouch keep?
Screw the cap back on and keep it in the fridge for up to 2 days. Serve the food fresh and do not heat the puree in a microwave.
Is this a breakfast on its own?
Not really. One hundred grams of fruit puree with 2.5 percent oats in it is a snack-sized portion, not a substitute for a cereal made up with milk or formula. It is part of a breakfast rather than the whole of one.
Written from the ingredient and allergy declaration printed on this pouch, together with the certification and feeding information published for it. The gluten statement follows the pack's own capital-letter allergen declaration for OATS. The age and the pack size shown on this page are taken from the product itself. No per-100-gram nutrition panel is reproduced, because the published figures for the Holle pouch range disagree between sources. No feeding quantity, daily portion or monthly consumption figure is stated, because Holle publishes none for the pouches. Last reviewed 15 October 2026.
