Colic Calm Herbal Blend, gripe water with activated charcoal, 2 fl oz
Colic Calm Herbal Blend is a gripe water for babies, given by mouth in small measured doses. It comes in a 2 fl oz bottle, which is 59 ml, with a measured oral dispenser included. The blend is built on activated charcoal together with fluid extracts of fennel, chamomile, caraway, ginger, peppermint, lemon balm, Cape aloe and blackthorn bud. It is free from wheat, gluten, dairy and soy, and it needs no refrigeration.
Gripe water is a long-standing category rather than a modern invention, and this is a herbal one. What distinguishes Colic Calm from most is the activated charcoal, which is the first of its listed active ingredients and the reason the liquid is dark rather than clear. The rest of the list is the familiar set of culinary and herbal plants that have been used in gripe waters for generations: fennel and chamomile leading, with caraway, ginger, peppermint and lemon balm behind them.
We are deliberately not going to tell you what this product will do. No claim is made on this page that Colic Calm treats, relieves or cures colic, reflux, gas, wind or stomach pain, and none should be read into it being stocked here. Parents buy gripe water because a baby is crying and they want something to try; that is an honest reason to buy it and a dishonest reason for us to make promises about it.
What we can be precise about is the practical side, which is what a page like this is actually useful for: the dose by weight, the limit on doses per day, how the dispenser is used, how long the bottle keeps once opened, and what is in it. All of that is set out below, and all of it comes from the instructions carried by this product.
The one thing worth raising before you buy. Activated charcoal is used in medicine precisely because it binds things in the gut, which is why, if your baby is taking any medicine at all, it is worth asking your doctor or pharmacist about timing before you give a charcoal-containing product. That is a question for a professional rather than something to work out from a product page.

When to talk to a doctor instead
A crying baby is the reason anyone looks at a product like this, and it is also the reason to be careful. Persistent crying, poor feeding, poor weight gain, vomiting, blood in a nappy, a fever, or a baby who seems unwell rather than unsettled are all things to take to a doctor or health visitor rather than to a bottle of gripe water. A product bought to try is not a substitute for having a baby looked at.
The instructions carried by this product say that colic, gas and reflux can appear as early as two weeks of age, and that for a two-week-old you would start with a few drops and increase gradually if needed, without going past the stated dose. We would add: at two weeks old, a baby who is crying inconsolably is a baby to discuss with your doctor first. Ask before you start, not after.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before use if your baby is taking any medicine, was born prematurely, has any diagnosed condition, or is under two weeks old. Stop using it and seek advice if your baby reacts to it in any way, or if the crying it was bought for does not settle.
What this page does not claim
No statement is made here that this product works, how quickly it works, or that it addresses any symptom or condition. An earlier version of this listing described it as a solution for digestive discomfort and said relief is often felt within minutes. Those claims have been removed and are not repeated. The dose, the limits and the ingredients below are the facts; what a product does for your baby is a conversation with your doctor.
How to give it
How to give Colic Calm
Read this before the first dose
For oral use only. Use only the measured oral dispenser supplied, never a kitchen spoon. Do not exceed the stated dose and do not exceed 4 doses in any day. Keep the bottle and the dispenser out of reach of children. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before use, and particularly if your baby is taking any medicine.
1
Shake the bottle well
Shake it thoroughly before every single use. A suspension containing activated charcoal settles, so an unshaken bottle does not give an even dose.
2
Check your baby's weight band
The dose depends on weight, not age. Under 20 lb, which is 9 kg, the dose is a quarter teaspoon. Over that, it is half a teaspoon. The table below sets both out.
3
Fill the dispenser to the mark
Draw the liquid up to the required dose level on the measured oral dispenser that comes with the bottle. To the mark, not above it.
4
Dispense slowly, into the cheek
Give it slowly into the mouth, between the cheek and the gums, rather than squirting it towards the back of the throat. Slowly is the important word.
5
Clean the dispenser and let it dry
Wash the oral dispenser after each use and let it air-dry. It goes back into a bottle that will be used again, so it needs to be clean.
6
Cap it tightly and put it away
Close the cap tightly after every use and store it out of reach, at room temperature and out of direct sunlight. No refrigeration is needed.
For oral use only. Do not exceed 4 doses per day. Use only the measured dispenser supplied. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before use, and before use alongside any medicine, because activated charcoal binds substances in the gut. Keep out of reach of children. Stop and seek advice if your baby reacts, or if the crying does not settle.
Dose and limits
The dose, by weight, and the daily limit
The dose is set by weight rather than by age, and there is a hard ceiling on how much can be given in a day. Both are reproduced here exactly as this product's instructions give them.

Measuring
Use only the measured oral dispenser supplied
Both tables reproduce the dosage instructions carried by this product. The millilitre figures are the ones given alongside the teaspoon measures, not a conversion we have made. A kitchen teaspoon is not a measuring device and should not be used in place of the dispenser. If anything about the dose is unclear, ask your pharmacist before giving it rather than estimating.
Ingredients
What is in it
Activated charcoal, and why it is worth a question
Activated charcoal is the first listed active ingredient. It is used in medicine because it binds substances in the digestive tract, and that same property is the reason to ask your doctor or pharmacist about timing if your baby takes any medicine. It is also why the liquid is dark in colour rather than clear.
Free from wheat, gluten, dairy and soy. Benzoic Acid and Sorbic Acid are the preservatives, so no preservative-free claim is made for this product. Xylitol is the sweetener. No quantity is published for any individual ingredient, so none is stated.
No organic, vegan, cruelty-free, additive-free or all-natural claim is made for this product on this page, and none should be read into it. An earlier version of this listing described it as an all-natural remedy; that wording has been removed, because the list includes a sweetener and two preservatives.
Always check the pack for the most current information. Formulations are revised from time to time and the label on the bottle you receive is the one that governs.
Read plainly, that is activated charcoal, eight herbal fluid extracts, water, a sweetener, glycerin and three acidity or preservative ingredients. Fennel, chamomile, caraway, ginger, peppermint and lemon balm are all culinary or herbal-tea plants; Cape aloe and blackthorn bud are the two least familiar on the list.

Stated as effective up to 8 weeks
At the maximum of 4 doses a day a 59 ml bottle holds a good many doses on paper, but the eight-week period after opening is the limit that matters in practice rather than the volume. Note the date you open it.
The 2 fl oz and 59 ml pack size is corroborated by several pharmacies and retailers listing this product, which agree on it. The storage instruction and the eight-week period after opening are the ones carried by this product. No number of doses per bottle is stated, because that depends on your baby's weight band and because the eight-week period, not the volume, is the binding constraint.

Questions parents ask
Frequently asked questions
Does it work?
We do not make that claim, and we are not going to. No statement is made on this page about what this product does or how quickly. Ask your doctor or pharmacist whether it is worth trying for your baby.
How much do I give?
By weight. Under 20 lb, which is 9 kg, a quarter teaspoon, 1.25 ml. Over that, half a teaspoon, 2.5 ml. Use only the measured dispenser supplied, and never more than 4 doses in a day.
From what age can it be given?
The instructions note that colic, gas and reflux can appear from around two weeks of age, and that at two weeks you would start with a few drops. Speak to your doctor before giving anything to a baby that young.
Can I give it alongside my baby's medicine?
Ask your doctor or pharmacist first. Activated charcoal binds substances in the gut, which is exactly why timing relative to a medicine is a question for a professional.
How often can I repeat a dose?
The instructions allow a dose to be repeated every 30 minutes for up to 3 doses, or as directed by a doctor or pharmacist, with a ceiling of 4 doses in any day.
Why is it dark?
The activated charcoal. It is the first listed active ingredient and it is what gives the liquid its colour rather than it being clear like a syrup.
Does it need to go in the fridge?
No. Store it at room temperature and out of direct sunlight. No refrigeration is needed, which is the reason it is easy to take out of the house.
How long does it last once opened?
It is stated as effective up to 8 weeks after opening. Note the date you open it, because with a 59 ml bottle that period, rather than the volume, is usually what runs out first.
Is it suitable if my baby has allergies?
It is free from wheat, gluten, dairy and soy. It does contain eight herbal extracts, a sweetener and two preservatives, so read the full list above and ask your doctor or pharmacist if your baby has known allergies.
Written from the ingredient list, dosage instructions, usage instructions and storage instructions carried by this product. The 2 fl oz / 59 ml pack size is corroborated by several pharmacies and retailers listing it, which agree. No efficacy, symptom-relief or speed-of-action claim is made anywhere on this page. An earlier version of this listing described the product as a solution for colic, reflux and gas, as providing quick relief from stomach pain, and as giving relief often felt within minutes, and described it as all-natural; every one of those statements has been removed and none is repeated, because this store does not make therapeutic claims for an orally administered infant product and because the ingredient list includes a sweetener and two preservatives. The note about activated charcoal and medicines is framed as a reason to ask a professional, not as a warning we are issuing. No quantity is published for any individual ingredient, so none is stated. Last reviewed 15 October 2026.
