What it is

HiPP Organic 7 Grain Cereal Flakes, 200 g, from 12 months

HiPP Organic 7 Grain Cereal Flakes is an organic baby cereal for toddlers from 12 months. It is a dry 7 grain muesli built on whole grain oat flakes and whole grain wheat flakes with banana flakes, and it comes as a loose flake mix in a 200 g box. Every cereal on the list is grown organically, and added vitamin B1 is the only vitamin in it. You stir each bowl together fresh with milk or with a made-up HiPP milk drink.

The name is literal. Seven cereals are in the box: oats, wheat, barley, rye, spelt, millet and corn. The two flake cereals carry most of the weight, at 36.5 percent whole grain oat flakes and 36.5 percent whole grain wheat flakes, so 73 percent of the box is whole grain flakes before the cereal flour is counted at all. The remaining 22 percent cereal flour is where barley, rye, spelt, millet and corn come in, and 5 percent banana flakes finish the mix.

This is a European baby cereal built as a flake rather than a powder, and that is the practical difference between this box and a porridge. The flakes are loose and dry, so the bowl is quick: you pour the liquid on, stir, and serve, with no swelling time to wait out. For a toddler who has started handling a spoon alone, a flake bowl also holds together better on the way up than a thin porridge does.

Seven cereals in one box means seven grains arriving together, and five of them carry gluten. Wheat, barley, rye, oats and spelt all contain gluten, and the box declares cereals containing gluten. Corn and millet do not. That matters for the order you introduce things in: a box holding five gluten cereals at once is not the pack to meet a new grain on. This is a cereal for a child who has already had those grains singly and taken them well.

Added vitamin B1 is the one nutrient put in, declared on the list as thiamine mononitrate. Thiamine contributes to the normal function of the nervous system, which is the authorized wording for that nutrient in Europe. Beyond the seven cereals, the banana flakes and that one vitamin there is nothing else on the declaration, which is short for a toddler breakfast cereal.

Where it fits

Where this one sits in a toddler's day

This box is a breakfast, and the recipe fits that slot: flakes, a little fruit, and a liquid you choose. By twelve months most of the day's eating has moved across to family food, and a cereal like this one is the part of breakfast that still gets made up for the child rather than served off a shared plate. It is the morning end of the day rather than the bedtime end.

It is not a weaning cereal, and it is not meant to be one. Seven cereals and five gluten grains in a single box is the opposite of the one-at-a-time order grains are usually introduced in, which is a few days apart so that if something disagrees you know which grain it was. Once wheat, barley, rye, oats and spelt have each been met on their own, a mixed flake cereal becomes the easy next step rather than a question mark.

The flake format is also what makes this a self-feeding bowl. A spoonful of flakes in milk stays on the spoon better than porridge does, and that counts in the months when a toddler wants to manage the spoon alone and will not accept help. The bowl is thicker than a porridge and less inclined to run off the edge.

If your baby is younger than 12 months

This is the wrong box for a younger baby, and a single-grain porridge is the step before it. HiPP's Organic 100% Oats Porridge brings one grain at a time, which is what a seven-cereal flake mix cannot do.

Preparation

How to prepare HiPP 7 Grain Cereal Flakes

Three rules that apply to every bowl

Make each bowl fresh and do not keep a made-up bowl back for later. Do not heat the prepared flakes in a microwave oven, because of the risk of burns. Check the bowl is at a comfortable eating temperature yourself before it reaches your child, and follow the quantities rather than thickening the bowl by eye.

6 tbspAbout 35 g of flakes
100 mlMilk or made-up formula
No waitStir and serve
3-4 weeksUse within, once opened
1

Measure the flakes first

Put 6 tablespoons, about 35 g, of flakes into a bowl before any liquid goes in. Measuring dry is easier to get right than correcting a bowl afterwards.

2

Choose the liquid

100 ml of milk, or 100 ml of made-up HiPP 2 milk. For a child of one year and over a HiPP 3 milk drink can be used in the same quantity.

3

Pour onto the flakes

Pour the liquid onto the flakes rather than tipping the flakes into the liquid, then stir it through. That order lumps less and needs less stirring.

4

Stir, and serve straight away

The flakes do not need standing time. Stir until the bowl looks even and serve it; a flake cereal left to sit will keep taking up liquid and thicken.

5

Check the temperature

Check the bowl yourself before your child does, whichever liquid you used. Make every meal fresh rather than keeping a made-up bowl back.

6

Reseal and store dry

Close the pack tightly after every use, keep it in a dry place at room temperature, and use the contents within 3 to 4 weeks of opening.

The three liquids this box is prepared with

Prepared with Liquid Flakes Choose it when
Milk 100 ml 6 tbsp (35 g) Your family already uses cow's milk in your child's food
Made-up HiPP 2 milk 100 ml 6 tbsp (35 g) Your baby is still on a follow-on formula
HiPP 3 milk drink 100 ml 6 tbsp (35 g) Your child is one year or over and on a toddler milk

These are the preparation quantities published for this box on this page. HiPP's own online listings for the 7 grain flakes do not repeat the quantities, so the pack in your hand governs. Tablespoon measures are a guide to the gram weight beside them rather than a substitute for it.

Do not use a microwave. The prepared flakes should not be heated in a microwave oven because of the risk of burns. Check the pack is undamaged before you open it the first time, reseal it after every use, keep it dry at room temperature, and use the contents within 3 to 4 weeks.
Flakes or porridge

How a flake cereal differs from a porridge powder

HiPP makes cereals in three formats and they are not interchangeable, because the age and the preparation differ. If you are deciding between this box and a porridge, the table below is the short version.

Format What it is Standing time Milk Suits
7 grain cereal flakes Loose whole grain flakes with banana None You add it A toddler spooning for themselves
Grain porridge powder Milled cereal, made up with a liquid Swells You add it A baby starting on cereals
Milk cereal Cereal with milk powder already in it Swells Already in it A bowl made up with water alone

This table describes the three cereal formats in general. It is not a nutritional comparison and no equivalence between the formats is implied.

HiPP's own online listing for the 7 grain flakes does not publish this declaration, so the percentages above are the ones carried by the box sold here, and the box in your hand governs.

Read as a list, that is seven cereals, a little banana and one added vitamin. Cereal is 95 percent of the dry weight and banana flakes are the other 5 percent. No colors, no flavors and no preservatives appear anywhere on the declaration.

Portions

How many bowls a 200 g box makes

A dry flake cereal has no fluid yield, so the useful number is the bowl count rather than an ounce figure. One bowl takes 6 tablespoons, about 35 g, whichever of the three liquids you use, so the arithmetic is the same across all of them.

Preparation Flakes per bowl Arithmetic Bowls per box
With milk, HiPP 2 or HiPP 3 35 g 200 ÷ 35 about 5

So one 200 g box is roughly five breakfasts at the published quantity, and a 100 ml serve of liquid goes with each of them. A level tablespoon varies from kitchen to kitchen, so treat the bowl count as a planning figure rather than a promise.

The bowl count is calculated from the 35 g portion published for this box and the 200 g pack size. No portion count is printed in HiPP's own online listing for the 7 grain flakes, so it is arithmetic rather than a figure quoted from the manufacturer.

Questions parents ask

Frequently asked questions

How do I prepare HiPP 7 Grain Cereal Flakes?

Put 6 tablespoons, about 35 g, of flakes in a bowl, pour 100 ml of milk or made-up HiPP 2 milk onto them, and stir. For a child of one year and over a HiPP 3 milk drink can be used instead. The flakes need no standing time, so check the temperature and serve. Make each bowl fresh and never use a microwave.

From what age can my child have it?

From 12 months, which is the age on this product. Younger than that it is the wrong box, because it brings seven cereals and five gluten grains at once.

Which seven cereals are in it?

Oats, wheat, barley, rye, spelt, millet and corn. Oats and wheat appear as whole grain flakes at 36.5 percent each, and the other five sit inside the 22 percent cereal flour.

Is it gluten-free?

No. It contains whole grain oats, wheat, barley, rye and spelt, and the declaration states that it is with gluten. We make no gluten-free claim for it.

Does it contain added sugar?

No sugar appears anywhere on the ingredient declaration for this box, and the banana flakes bring their own natural sugar. We do not print a no added sugar claim for it, because HiPP does not publish one for the 7 grain flakes online and a claim of that kind has to come from the pack rather than from reading a list.

Does it contain milk?

Milk is not an ingredient. The declaration does say it may contain traces of milk, so it is not the box for a child who has to avoid milk entirely. The milk in the bowl is the liquid you add.

Can I make it with water?

A water preparation is not among the instructions published for this box. The three liquids given are milk, made-up HiPP 2 milk and, from one year, a HiPP 3 milk drink.

How many bowls does a 200 g box make?

About five, at the published 35 g per bowl. That is 200 divided by 35, so it is arithmetic on the pack size rather than a count printed by HiPP.

How long does it keep once opened?

Close the pack tightly after each use, keep it in a dry place at room temperature, and use the contents within 3 to 4 weeks. Check the pack is undamaged before you open it the first time.

Other HiPP cereals and what goes with this one

Written from the ingredient, allergen and preparation declarations published for this box, with the pack size confirmed against HiPP's own product listing for the 7 grain flakes with bananas. The bowl count is arithmetic on the published portion weight and the pack size. The age and the pack size are taken from the product itself. A whole grain percentage and a no added sugar claim were deliberately left out because neither could be confirmed from HiPP's own literature. Last reviewed 15 October 2026.
