HiPP Organic Multigrain Cereal with Buckwheat, from 4 months
HiPP Organic Multigrain Cereal with Buckwheat is a milk-free organic baby cereal for babies from 4 months. Three grains make up the whole box: 59 percent corn flour, 22 percent whole grain oat flour and 19 percent buckwheat flour, with added vitamin B1. It carries no added sugar and no preservatives, and it contains gluten from the oats.
The useful thing about this box is that the grains add up to 100 percent. There is no milk powder, no fruit powder and no filler: corn, oat and buckwheat, plus the thiamine European rules require. That makes it a multigrain baby cereal you can take in three different directions depending on what you make it up with.
Buckwheat is the one worth explaining. It is not a wheat and not a cereal grain at all, so it carries no gluten of its own and it brings a fuller, slightly nutty taste. Corn is the other gluten-free component. The gluten in this box comes from the 22 percent wholegrain oat flour, and HiPP declares it.
Because there is no milk in the flakes, the liquid is yours to choose and the nutrition in the bowl follows from it. HiPP publishes three preparations for the same box: with about 200 ml of your usual infant milk, with 100 ml of milk and 100 ml of water, or milk-free with water, fruit puree and a teaspoon of rapeseed oil.
The one addition is vitamin B1, as thiamine mononitrate, which HiPP states helps maintain the normal functioning of the nervous system and which EU regulations require in a baby cereal. Beyond the three grains and that vitamin there is nothing added to sweeten, color, flavor or preserve it. As a European baby cereal this is a blend rather than a starting box.

Where it fits
Where this one sits in the weaning day
This is a step up from a single grain rather than a place to start. Three grains in one box means three new foods on one spoon, and one of them carries gluten. If something disagrees with your baby, a blend cannot tell you which of the three it was.
The order that works is corn on its own, then oats on their own, then this box. HiPP makes both of those as single-grain cereals at the same 4-month age, so the path is short. Once each grain has been met and taken well, a blend is the easy next move and it brings more variety into the week than rotating three separate boxes does.
Being milk-free is the other reason it stays useful. It is the box to reach for when you want the cereal to carry a formula your baby is already on, or when you want a bowl with no dairy in it at all. A milk cereal with the powder built in cannot do either of those.
If the grains have not been introduced singly
Start with the two gluten-free ones. HiPP's Organic Corn Cereal, 250 g is corn flour and vitamin B1 and nothing else, and Organic 100% Oats Porridge, 200 g is the single-grain oat box, which is where gluten enters the diet. Both are from 4 months.
Preparation
How to prepare HiPP Multigrain Cereal with Buckwheat
The rules that apply to all three preparations
Let the liquid cool to approximately 50 degrees Celsius before it meets the flakes. HiPP is explicit that water which is too hot dissolves the powder less well rather than better. Make every bowl fresh, always spoon-feed it, check the temperature yourself before your baby does, and do not heat a prepared porridge in a microwave.

1
Boil, then cool
Boil the water, or the milk and water together on the half-milk route, and let it come down to approximately 50 degrees Celsius before you use it.
2
Measure the flakes into the bowl
3 to 4 tablespoons, 22 grams, for either milk route. For the fruit route it is 2 full tablespoons. The flakes go in before the liquid does.
3
Pour the liquid onto the flakes
Add the prepared milk, or the cooled water, onto the flakes and mix it through. That is the order HiPP writes for all three preparations.
4
Let it swell
Leave the porridge to swell until it reaches the consistency you want, then cool it to a suitable eating temperature.
5
On the fruit route, add puree and oil
The milk-free preparation takes about 100 g of fruit puree and one teaspoon of HiPP Organic Rapeseed Oil stirred in. Neither milk route calls for oil.
6
Check the temperature, then spoon-feed
Check the bowl yourself before it reaches your baby. Spoon-feed the porridge and make each meal fresh rather than keeping a prepared bowl for later.

Quantities are HiPP's own for this box. HiPP gives a gram weight for the two milk routes but only a tablespoon measure for the fruit route, so no gram figure is stated here for that one. HiPP's reference portion for this cereal is 22 g of flakes with 100 ml of water and 100 ml of milk at 3.2 percent fat.
Do not use a microwave. Close the pack after every use, keep it dry at room temperature, and use the contents within 3 to 4 weeks of opening. Check the pack is intact before you open it the first time.
The three grains
What the three grains bring, and which one carries the gluten
The percentages matter here because they are the whole box. Nothing else is in it except the added vitamin B1.

Percentages are HiPP's own, as this listing publishes them, and they total 100 percent. The oat flour is the single source of the gluten HiPP declares for this box. No gluten-free claim is made for it and none should be read into the fact that two of its three grains carry none.
Ingredients and allergens
What is in it
Contains gluten, from the oat flour
Contains cereals containing gluten. Contains OATS. No gluten-free claim is made for this product and none should be read into it. No milk ingredient is declared. Read the allergen panel printed on your own box before preparing a feed.
Allergens: OATS, and therefore gluten. Reproduced from the ingredient and allergen declaration this listing publishes for this box. The panel printed on the box you receive is the one that governs.
No added sugar and no preservatives: both are HiPP's own statements for this box, with HiPP noting that the box contains natural sugars. Nothing in the list is a sugar, a syrup or a juice concentrate; the carbohydrate comes from the three grains.
Thiamine mononitrate is the form of vitamin B1 used here. HiPP states it is added as EU regulations require.
Read as a list, that is three grains and one vitamin. Nothing is added to sweeten, color, flavor, salt or preserve it, and no milk ingredient is declared.

How far it goes
How far a box goes, and why no bowl count is given
HiPP publishes a clear quantity per bowl for this cereal: 22 g of flakes on either milk route. What is missing is the other half of the arithmetic.
No net weight is published for this box here
This listing does not state a pack size for this cereal, and the shipping weight recorded against it is a carrier figure rather than the net contents. HiPP sells its milk-free cereals in more than one pack size across markets, so a bowl count worked out from an assumed weight would be invented. None is given. The net weight is printed on the box, and dividing it by the figures below gives the count for the pack in your hand.

What can be said without a pack weight is the shape of a prepared bowl. On the half-milk route it comes to about 222 g once the 22 g of flakes, 100 ml of water and 100 ml of milk are in it, which is a full cereal meal rather than a few spoonfuls.
We would rather leave this figure out than estimate it. If you tell us the weight printed on the box you received, we will add it to this page.

Questions parents ask
Frequently asked questions
How do I prepare HiPP Multigrain Cereal with Buckwheat?
Three ways. With your usual milk mixture: make up approximately 200 ml, cooled to about 50 degrees Celsius, and stir it into 3 to 4 tablespoons, 22 g, of flakes. With half milk and water: boil 100 ml of milk with 100 ml of water, cool to about 50 degrees, and use the same 22 g. Milk-free: pour 100 ml of boiled and cooled water over 2 full tablespoons of flakes, then add about 100 g of fruit puree and a teaspoon of rapeseed oil. Let it swell, check the temperature, spoon-feed.
Is it gluten free?
No. The 22 percent wholegrain oat flour carries gluten and HiPP declares it. Corn and buckwheat carry none, but that does not make the box gluten free and we make no such claim for it.
Is buckwheat a kind of wheat?
No. Despite the name buckwheat is not a wheat and not a cereal grain, and it carries no gluten of its own. In this box the gluten comes only from the oats.
From what age can my baby have it?
From 4 months, which is the age on this product. It brings three grains at once, though, so it is better once corn and oats have each been introduced on their own.
Does it contain milk powder?
No milk ingredient is declared for this box. That is why it has a milk-free preparation, and why it is the cereal to use when you want it to carry a formula your baby is already on.
Does it contain added sugar?
No. HiPP states no added sugars for this box and notes that it contains natural sugars, which come from the grains themselves. HiPP also states that it contains no preservatives.
How many bowls does a box make?
We cannot give that figure honestly, because no net weight is published for this box here. HiPP's own quantity is 22 g of flakes per bowl on either milk route, so dividing the weight printed on your box by 22 gives the count for the pack you have.
How long does it keep once opened?
Close the pack after each use, keep it in a dry place at room temperature, and use the contents within 3 to 4 weeks. Check the pack is intact before you open it the first time.
Written from this product's own ingredient and allergen declaration, HiPP's own nutrient statement for the vitamin B1, and HiPP's own three preparations with their quantities, all as this listing publishes them. The 4-month age is taken from the product itself. No net weight is stated anywhere for this box on this listing, so no pack size and no bowls-per-box figure are given, and no weight has been carried across from another HiPP cereal. No gluten-free claim is made. Last reviewed 14 October 2026.
