What it is

HiPP Organic Wheat and Milk Baby Biscuit, 180 g, from 6 months

HiPP Organic Wheat and Milk Baby Biscuit is an organic baby biscuit for babies from 6 months. The pack is 180 g, made up of 4 sachets of 45 g. It is built on organic wholewheat flour at 68 percent with skimmed milk powder and added vitamin B1, and it is designed to be used two ways: crumbled into milk or fruit puree at six months, and handed over whole for self-feeding from around eight months once first teeth appear. It contains sugar, gluten and milk.

A baby biscuit is a transitional object as much as a food. It is firm enough to hold, it softens where it meets saliva or milk, and it gives a baby who has only ever been spoon-fed something to work at themselves. That is why HiPP gives two sets of instructions for the same biscuit: crumbled, it is an ingredient; whole, it is a first finger food.

The recipe is mostly grain and dairy. Wholewheat flour at 68 percent leads the declaration, there is a further 7 percent of partially hydrolyzed wheat flour, and skimmed milk powder and a barley malt extract sit in the middle of the list with coconut oil. Added vitamin B1, the thiamine European rules require in a cereal product for babies, closes it. Every starred ingredient comes from organic farms, which the pack's own footnote states.

It is worth being plain about the sugar, because a lot of baby food is bought on the assumption that there is none. Sugar is the second ingredient in this biscuit. No no-added-sugar claim is made for it and none should be read into it. That is the ordinary trade-off with a biscuit rather than a cereal, and it is the reason HiPP's own serving guidance puts a daily limit on it.

Because of the wheat, the barley malt and the milk powder it carries gluten and milk, and the pack notes it may contain traces of mustard. So this is not an early-weaning pack. It is the biscuit for a baby who has already met wheat and dairy in something simpler and taken both well, which in practice is most babies by six months but not all of them.

Where it fits

Where a baby biscuit fits, and how it changes with age

At six months this is not finger food yet. HiPP's instruction at that age is to crumble two or three biscuits into a bowl and mix them with a few spoonfuls of prepared milk or fruit puree, which turns the biscuit into something closer to a cereal. That is the version to start on, and it is the one that works for a baby with no teeth and a strong gag reflex.

From around eight months, once first teeth have come through, the same biscuit becomes a whole-biscuit food for self-feeding. That is the point of buying it: a baby holding a biscuit and getting it to their own mouth is practising something a spoon cannot teach. HiPP ties the change to teeth rather than to a date, which is the right way round.

The daily limit is part of the product rather than an afterthought, and it is the sugar that drives it. HiPP's guidance is one to two biscuits a day initially, rising to two or three as your baby grows at around nine to eleven months. A biscuit is a between-meals food within that limit, not a meal and not something to leave within reach.

If you want a biscuit without the dairy

This one carries skimmed milk powder, so it is not the pack to use if you are avoiding dairy. Holle Organic Baby Spelt Biscuit and Holle Organic Spelt Baby Rusk, 200 g are the spelt alternatives in the range. Each has its own declaration, so read the pack you buy.

Serving it

How to serve it, and the limits that come with it

Always supervise your baby while eating

Never leave your baby unattended with a biscuit. A firm piece of food is a choking risk in a way that a puree is not, and it stays one even after it has begun to soften. Keep your baby sitting upright, stay within reach for the whole of it, and keep to the daily number below rather than treating a biscuit as something to hand over on request.

CrumbledAt 6 months
WholeFrom 8+ months
1-2Biscuits a day at first
2-3At 9 to 11 months
1

At 6 months, crumble it

Break two or three biscuits into a bowl and mix them with a few spoonfuls of prepared milk or fruit puree. This is the version to start on: the biscuit becomes a soft mixture rather than a piece to be chewed.

2

Wait for first teeth before going whole

HiPP ties whole biscuits to the arrival of first teeth, usually from around eight months, rather than to a fixed date. A baby with no teeth should be having the crumbled version.

3

Offer one biscuit at a time

Hand over a single biscuit rather than putting several on the tray. It keeps the pace down and keeps the daily number honest.

4

Sit your baby upright and stay there

In a high chair, properly upright, not reclined and not on the move. Stay within reach for the whole biscuit, every time.

5

Keep to the daily number

One to two biscuits a day at the start, rising to two or three at around nine to eleven months. This is a biscuit with sugar in it, and the limit is the point.

6

Close the pack and brush afterwards

Store the pack in a cool, dry place and check the best-before date. A sweet between-meals food is exactly the reason to keep a regular tooth-brushing routine from the first tooth.

The ages, the crumbled and whole-biscuit routes and the daily numbers are the serving guidance published for this product. They are a guide rather than a prescription, and your own baby's stage governs.

Never leave your baby unattended while eating a biscuit. A firm food carries a choking risk. Keep your baby upright and supervised throughout, give whole biscuits only once first teeth have emerged, and keep to the daily number. Store the pack cool and dry and check the best-before date printed on it.
Crumbled or whole

The two ways to use the same biscuit

HiPP publishes both routes for this one pack, so neither is a workaround. Which one you use is a question about your baby's teeth and their confidence with a held food, not about the biscuit.

Route From How Needs teeth
Crumbled into a bowl 6 months 2 to 3 biscuits broken up and mixed with a few spoonfuls of prepared milk or fruit puree No
Whole, for self-feeding 8+ months One whole biscuit, held by your baby, with you within reach throughout Yes, once first teeth emerge

Both routes count against the same daily number: one to two biscuits a day at the start, two to three at around nine to eleven months. Crumbling does not make the sugar go away.

Ingredients and allergens

What is in it

Contains WHEAT, BARLEY and MILK, and it contains sugar

This biscuit contains cereals containing gluten as WHEAT and BARLEY, and it contains MILK as skimmed milk powder. The pack states it may contain traces of MUSTARD. Sugar is the second ingredient. No gluten-free, milk-free or no-added-sugar claim is made for this product and none should be read into it.

Ingredients and more

68% WHEAT flour*, sugar*, coconut oil*, 7% wheat flour* (partially hydrolyzed), skimmed MILK powder*, leavening agents (ammonium carbonates, potassium tartrates, sodium carbonates), BARLEY malt extract*, vanilla extract, emulsifier lecithin*, thiamine hydrochloride.

* from organic farms. With gluten. With vitamin B1.

Allergens: WHEAT, BARLEY and therefore gluten, and MILK. May contain traces of MUSTARD. Reproduced from the ingredient and allergy declaration published for this pack.

The published panel also carries a footnote stating that organic palm oil is extracted sustainably and certified by independent control services, but the ingredient list itself names coconut oil and no palm oil, and the footnote has no matching marker in the list. It is reported here rather than removed or relied on. The declaration printed on the pack you receive is the one that governs.

HiPP's German site publishes no product page for this biscuit, so no nutrition table and no organic control code is stated here, and no preservative-free or non-GMO claim is made.

Read as a list, that is wholewheat flour, sugar, a fat, a second wheat flour, milk powder, raising agents, a barley malt extract, vanilla, an emulsifier and one added vitamin. The grain dominates at 75 percent across the two wheat flours, the vitamin B1 is the thiamine European rules require, and the sugar is the entry worth noticing.

What you get

How far a pack goes

The pack holds 180 g of biscuits, divided into 4 sachets of 45 g so that an opened pack does not have to be finished at once. How many individual biscuits that comes to is not stated for this product, so no biscuit count is given here. What is published alongside the weight is the daily number, which is the more useful figure anyway.

What is published Value
Daily number at the start 1 to 2 biscuits a day
Daily number at 9 to 11 months 2 to 3 biscuits a day
Crumbled serving at 6 months 2 to 3 biscuits, broken into a bowl
Net pack weight 180 g, as 4 sachets of 45 g
Biscuits per pack Not stated on this listing
Nutrition per 100 g Not published

What that means in practice is that the pack is paced by the daily limit rather than by its size. At one or two biscuits a day a pack lasts considerably longer than a parent used to handing over a snack would expect, and that is the intention.

The 180 g pack weight and the 4 x 45 g sachet format are taken from the product itself. No biscuit count is claimed, because none is published for this product. The serving numbers above are the published guidance.

Questions parents ask

Frequently asked questions

How do I give a baby biscuit at 6 months?

Crumbled, not whole. Break two or three biscuits into a bowl and mix them with a few spoonfuls of prepared milk or fruit puree. Whole biscuits come later, from around eight months, once first teeth have emerged.

From what age can my baby have it?

From 6 months, which is the age on this product, and crumbled at that age rather than whole.

How many biscuits a day?

One to two a day to begin with, rising to two or three at around nine to eleven months. The limit is published guidance, and it is there because the biscuit contains sugar.

Does it contain added sugar?

Yes. Sugar is the second ingredient in the declaration. We make no no-added-sugar claim for this biscuit.

Does it contain milk?

Yes, as skimmed milk powder, so it is not suitable on a milk-free diet. It also contains wheat and a barley malt extract, so it contains gluten.

Is it gluten free?

No. It is built on wholewheat flour and contains a barley malt extract, both of which are cereals containing gluten.

When can my baby hold a whole biscuit?

From around eight months, and the condition is teeth rather than age: the guidance is whole biscuits for self-feeding once first teeth emerge. Stay within reach for the whole biscuit.

How big is the pack?

180 g, made up of 4 sachets of 45 g. The number of individual biscuits is not stated for this product, so we do not give one. The pack is paced by the daily number rather than by its size.

Other biscuits, rusks and first finger foods

Written from the ingredient, allergen and serving declarations published for this pack, which supply the percentages, the organic footnote, the gluten, milk and mustard advice, the crumbled and whole-biscuit routes and the daily numbers. The age and the 180 g pack weight, as 4 sachets of 45 g, are taken from the product itself. HiPP's German site publishes no product page for this biscuit, so no nutrition table, no organic control code, no preservative-free claim and no non-GMO claim is made. No biscuit count is stated for this product, so none is claimed. Sugar is the second ingredient and no no-added-sugar claim is made. A footnote on the published panel refers to organic palm oil while the ingredient list names coconut oil; the discrepancy is reported on the page rather than resolved. Last reviewed 20 October 2026.

Important: Always supervise the baby while eating to prevent choking.
