Hypoallergenic Baby Formula (HA)

Hypoallergenic baby formula uses milk protein that has been broken into smaller pieces — hydrolysed — so it is less likely to be recognised by a sensitive immune system. This collection brings together the hydrolysed-protein formulas we stock, from HiPP, Aptamil and Kendamil.

Two different things share this shelf

• Partially hydrolysed (HA) formulas are everyday first milks with gently broken-down protein. They are aimed at reducing the risk of allergy developing in babies with a family history. They are not a treatment.
• Extensively hydrolysed formulas are a different category, used for babies with a diagnosed cow’s milk protein allergy, normally under medical supervision.

The two are not interchangeable, and the difference matters. Each product page states which type it is.

Before you buy

🔴 Speak to your pediatrician first. If you suspect a cow’s milk protein allergy, it needs diagnosing rather than guessing — the symptoms overlap with reflux, colic and lactose issues, which are managed completely differently. A hypoallergenic formula bought on a hunch can delay the right answer.

Questions parents ask

Does hypoallergenic mean allergen-free? No. Hydrolysed formulas are still made from cow’s milk. A baby with a confirmed allergy may need an extensively hydrolysed or amino acid formula prescribed by a doctor.

Does it taste different? Usually yes — hydrolysed protein has a more bitter taste, and some babies need a few days to accept it.
