What it is

HiPP Organic Raspberry Rice Cakes, 30 g, from the 8th month

HiPP Organic Raspberry Rice Cakes are small round organic baby rice cakes for babies from the 8th month. The wafer is made from 100 percent puffed organic rice, flavored with organic apple juice concentrate, organic raspberry puree and organic carrot juice concentrate, with added vitamin B1. HiPP makes them without added sugar, footnoted that the ingredients naturally contain sugar. The pack holds 30 g, and HiPP's own serving suggestion is three to five rice cakes as part of a snack.

The shape is doing as much work as the recipe. These are small, light discs sized for a baby's grip, and HiPP describes them as ideal for little hands learning to grasp. A rice cake is one of the first foods a baby can genuinely feed themselves: it is light enough to lift, it breaks down with saliva rather than needing teeth, and it leaves a baby with something to show for the effort. That is why this category sits where it does in the weaning year.

The wafer base is rice and nothing else, which is what HiPP means by 100 percent puffed organic rice. The fruit and vegetable concentrates are what sit on and in it to give it the delicate raspberry flavor, and raspberry puree is 1.3 percent of the finished cake. HiPP positions the whole rice cake range as less sweet than a typical children's snack, and the taste is correspondingly mild rather than fruity-sharp.

On sugar, the honest version is this: no sugar as such is added, and HiPP states that, with its own footnote that the ingredients naturally contain sugar. The sweetness that is there comes from the apple and carrot juice concentrates and the raspberry puree. That is a real distinction from a snack sweetened with sugar or syrup, and it is also not the same thing as a sugar-free food.

Who it is for: a baby from the 8th month who can sit steadily and is starting to want to feed themselves, as a between-meals nibble at home or in a bag. As a European baby snack made from organically grown rice and fruit it is a plain, short-ingredient alternative to a biscuit, and unlike a biscuit it carries no dairy and no cereal other than rice.

Where it fits

Where this one sits in the weaning day

A rice cake is a snack, not a meal, and that is the slot to keep it in. By the 8th month most babies are on two or three spoon meals a day and are keen to put something in their own mouth, and a between-meals nibble is where that interest can be met without displacing a meal or a milk feed.

It is also a self-feeding step rather than a nutrition step. The reason to reach for one is that a baby can hold it, bring it to their mouth and work it down on their own, which a puree cannot teach. Skills first, calories second: three to five small wafers is a snack, not a significant part of a day's intake, and HiPP presents them that way.

Against a biscuit, the rice cake has two practical advantages at this age. It carries no dairy and no gluten-bearing cereal, so it suits a baby who has not yet met those or is avoiding them. And it dissolves faster, so the window where a large piece could come away is shorter. Neither of those removes the need to supervise, and the warnings below are HiPP's own rather than general advice.

If you want the same snack without the fruit

A plainer puffed snack carries no fruit concentrate at all, which is useful if you would rather keep the sweetness out of a snack entirely. HiPP's Organic Millet Sticks are the plainer option in the same 30 g format.

How to serve them

How to give rice cakes safely

Three rules from HiPP, and they are not optional

Do not give rice cakes to a baby who is lying down. Supervise your child the whole time they are nibbling. And start regular dental care from the first tooth onward. HiPP states all three for this product, alongside a plain warning about the risk of choking.

3 to 5Cakes, as a snack
8+ monthsNot before this
UprightNever lying down
SupervisedFor the whole snack
1

Check your baby is ready

From the 8th month, able to sit steadily, and already handling finger foods. Before that a rice cake is the wrong food, whatever a baby's interest in it.

2

Sit your baby upright

In a high chair or on your lap, upright and facing forward. Never reclined, never in a moving car seat, and never lying down.

3

Give one cake at a time

One wafer into one hand. HiPP's suggestion of three to five is the size of the whole snack, not a handful to give at once.

4

Stay within arm's reach

Watch each wafer through to the end. The last fragment is the part worth the closest attention, because it can come away in one piece.

5

Clear away what is left

Take any remaining pieces when your baby has finished rather than leaving them in reach. A softened piece picked up later is the thing to avoid.

6

Reseal the pack

Close the opened pack airtight, a clip is ideal, store it dry at room temperature and use it up quickly. A rice cake that has gone soft has taken up moisture.

Risk of choking. Do not give rice cakes lying down and do not leave your child unsupervised while nibbling. Keep the pack sealed, dry and at room temperature, and ensure regular dental care from the first tooth onward.
The recipe

Five ingredients, and what each one is doing

There are five entries on the label and no filler among them. Reading them in order explains both the taste and the sugar footnote.

Ingredient What it is there for
Organic rice The whole of the wafer itself, puffed. This is what HiPP means by 100 percent puffed organic rice.
Organic apple juice concentrate The main source of the mild sweetness, and part of why no sugar needs to be added.
Organic raspberry puree, 1.3% The raspberry flavor, as fruit puree rather than a flavoring.
Organic carrot juice concentrate Rounds out the taste and contributes to the color.
Vitamin B1 Added thiamine, as European rules require for a cereal-based baby food.

No sugar, sweetener, coloring, flavoring or preservative appears on the label. The no-added-sugar statement is HiPP's own, with HiPP's own footnote that the ingredients naturally contain sugar. The sugar in these rice cakes is the sugar in the apple and carrot juice concentrates and the raspberry puree, which is not the same thing as a sugar-free food.

Ingredients and allergens

What is in it

May contain traces of sesame, soy and milk

None of those three is an ingredient. The warning is a cross-contamination statement about the line these are made on, and it is the reason a baby with a diagnosed sesame, soy or milk allergy should not be given them.

On the label

Ingredients and more

Organic rice, organic apple juice concentrate, organic raspberry puree 1.3%, organic carrot juice concentrate, vitamin B1.

Allergy information: may contain traces of sesame, soy and milk. Reproduced from the ingredient and allergy declaration carried by this product.

Storage: store in a dry place at room temperature. Once opened, close the package airtight, preferably with a clip, and use it up quickly.

A European retailer authorized for HiPP lists this pack with raspberry juice concentrate at 1.1 percent in place of the raspberry puree at 1.3 percent, which reads as a different pack revision. The declaration above is the one carried by the pack sold here, and the pack in your hand governs.

Read as a list, that is one grain, two juice concentrates, one fruit puree and one vitamin. Rice is the only cereal in it, and there is no dairy ingredient, no egg, no nut and no soy ingredient.

No gluten-free claim is made for this product. Rice carries no gluten, but the pack sold here does not state a gluten-free status and we do not assert one on its behalf. No nutrition table for this pack was available to us either, so no energy or sugar figures are given here; they are printed on the pack.

How far it goes

How long a 30 g pack lasts

A 30 g pack of rice cakes cannot honestly be turned into a number of snacks. HiPP publishes the serving suggestion, three to five rice cakes as part of a snack, but it does not publish how many wafers are in a pack or what one wafer weighs, so any snacks-per-pack total would be invented.

What is knowable is the pack weight and the serving size, and that the pack is small on purpose. 30 g is a format built to be opened, used over a few days and finished, which is also why the storage instruction says to close it airtight and use it up quickly rather than giving a weeks-long window.

Questions parents ask

Frequently asked questions

How many rice cakes should I give my baby?

HiPP's own serving suggestion is three to five rice cakes as part of a snack. Give them one at a time rather than handing over the whole amount, with your baby sitting upright and you within arm's reach for the whole snack.

From what age can my baby have them?

From the 8th month, which is the age on this pack. Before that a rice cake is the wrong food, both for the choking risk and because a baby needs to be sitting steadily and handling finger food first.

Do they contain added sugar?

No sugar is added. HiPP states these are made without added sugar, with its own footnote that the ingredients naturally contain sugar. That sugar comes from the apple and carrot juice concentrates and the raspberry puree. They are not a sugar-free food.

Are they safe for a baby with a milk or soy allergy?

Not if the allergy is diagnosed. Milk and soy are not ingredients, but the pack warns the product may contain traces of sesame, soy and milk, which is a cross-contamination statement about how it is made.

Are they gluten free?

We make no gluten-free claim for this pack. Rice is the only cereal in the recipe and rice carries no gluten, but the pack sold here does not state a gluten-free status, so we do not state one for it.

What does 100 percent puffed organic rice mean if there are five ingredients?

It describes the wafer itself. The disc is puffed rice and nothing else; the apple and carrot juice concentrates, the raspberry puree and the vitamin B1 are what give it its flavor and meet the vitamin requirement.

How should I store an opened pack?

Store it in a dry place at room temperature. Once opened, close the package airtight, ideally with a clip, and use it up quickly. A rice cake that has gone soft has taken up moisture from the air.

Will they damage my baby's teeth?

HiPP's instruction is to ensure regular dental care from the first tooth onward, which is the right answer for any carbohydrate snack. Keeping a rice cake as a short, finished snack rather than something available all afternoon is the practical version of that.

Written from this pack's own ingredient, allergy, serving and storage declarations, with HiPP's published information for its organic rice cakes confirming the 8-month age, the 30 g pack, the 100 percent puffed organic rice description, the without-added-sugar statement, the three-to-five serving suggestion and the three safety instructions. No less-sugar-than-comparable-products claim is made, because no source for the figure previously shown on this page could be found. No gluten-free claim and no nutrition figures are given, for the same reason. Ages and pack size shown on this page govern. Last reviewed 15 October 2026.
