HiPP Goat PRE is an EU Organic certified goat milk infant formula for babies from birth to 6 months, made in Germany and sold across Europe in a 400 g folding carton with a German label. One carton makes about 110 fl oz of prepared formula — roughly 22 five-ounce bottles.
The name confuses almost everyone, so here it is plainly. PRE is HiPP's German word for its earliest formula, and in the goat range PRE is the only newborn product — there is no separate Stage 1 to graduate to. One carton covers the whole birth-to-six-month span. Our title says “Stage PRE/1” because that is what American parents type into a search box, not because two products have been merged.
This is also not the same SKU as HiPP's Dutch-market goat can. HiPP manufactures centrally in Germany and labels separately for each market: this carton carries German label text and a Pfaffenhofen distributor address, and its published ingredient panel opens with skimmed goat milk rather than the unqualified “goat milk” on the Dutch label. Different barcode, different carton, separate listing.
Goat milk contains no A1 beta-casein at all, so this is A2 goat milk formula by nature rather than by design. A2 protein sets into a softer, looser curd in the stomach, and that curd is the real reason parents reach for goat milk baby formula when a newborn seems windy or unsettled on a standard cow's milk formula with nothing diagnosed behind it.
As a European baby formula this is a complete food and can be your baby's sole nutrition from day one, or a top-up alongside breastfeeding. It is certified EU Organic, has no starch and no maltodextrin, and carries a GOS prebiotic along with both DHA and ARA. It does contain organic palm oil and its DHA comes from fish oil — set out plainly in the comparison below. At around six months, when solids begin, the follow-on step is HiPP Goat Stage 2.

The published panel reads: organic goat skimmed milk, organic lactose, organic vegetable oils of palm, rapeseed and sunflower, goat skim milk powder, galacto-oligosaccharides from lactose and fish oil, followed by calcium carbonate, choline, Mortierella alpina oil, sodium citrate, the amino acids L-tyrosine, L-tryptophan, L-cysteine and L-isoleucine, vitamin C, iron sulfate, zinc sulfate, inositol, vitamins A, B6, E, K, D and B12, potassium chloride, L-carnitine, copper sulfate, sodium selenite, potassium iodide and biotin. Declared allergens are milk and fish. No starch, no maltodextrin and no added sugar appear anywhere in it.
Digestion
Is goat milk formula easier to digest than cow's milk formula?
Goat milk contains no A1 beta-casein at all, so every goat formula is A2 beta-casein by nature. A2 protein sets into a softer, looser curd in the stomach than the A1 and A2 mix in conventional cow's milk, and that curd is the named mechanism behind the gentler-digestion claim — not a vague promise of comfort.
The softer goat curd is a documented physical property of goat casein rather than something HiPP invented, which is why every goat formula can claim it and none can claim it exclusively. The GOS prebiotic in this carton works on a separate front, feeding gut flora rather than changing the curd.
Now the part worth being blunt about. Goat milk formula is not a treatment for cow's milk protein allergy. Goat and cow milk proteins are close enough in structure that most infants with a diagnosed CMPA cross-react to both, so switching to goat does not solve the problem and can delay proper treatment. If your baby has a confirmed or suspected cow's milk protein allergy, you need a hydrolysed or amino-acid formula prescribed by your doctor.
Where HiPP goat milk formula does fit is the newborn with nothing diagnosed: fussy, gassy, posseting, generally unsettled on a standard cow's milk formula. Trying a gentler A2 goat formula is a reasonable, non-medical step, and that is the honest limit of what it claims.

Being straight with you:Holle Goat PRE is the stronger carton on paper. It is the only Demeter-certified goat formula we stock, it is palm-oil-free, its DHA comes from microalgae rather than fish, it is built on whole goat milk rather than skimmed, and it is halal certified where HiPP's status is simply unconfirmed. Jovie Goat Stage 1 is palm-oil-free too, and is both halal and kosher certified. We sell both. HiPP Goat PRE's honest case is the GOS prebiotic that Holle PRE does not list, HiPP's own Bio testing programme behind the EU Organic certificate, and the fact that it is usually the least expensive certified-organic goat formula on our shelf. There is no directly published boxes-per-month figure for this exact carton, so we estimate roughly 4 to 6 boxes a month for an exclusively formula-fed baby across the 0–6 month stage, rising as feeds get bigger. The climb is steep because a newborn's daily intake roughly doubles over the first half-year. Plan against the band for your baby's current age rather than a flat monthly number, and remember that any breastfeeding alongside formula pulls every figure down. How do you prepare HiPP Goat PRE?
Sterilise the bottle and teat, boil fresh water and let it cool to 40–50°C, pour the measured water in first, then add the number of level scoops HiPP's feeding chart on your carton gives for your baby's age, shake until the powder dissolves, cool to about 37°C (98.6°F), test a drop on your wrist and feed within the hour.

Sterilise everything
Wash and sterilise the bottle, teat, ring and cap, and wash your hands before you start.

Boil and cool
Boil fresh drinking water and let it cool to 40–50°C before you use it, as HiPP specifies on this carton.

Never use artificially softened water or water that has been boiled more than once. Prepare a fresh bottle for every feed, never reheat, never microwave, and discard anything left 1 hour after your baby starts drinking. Follow the feeding chart printed on your own carton rather than a single fixed scoop ratio.
A note on water temperature. HiPP specifies water at about 40–50°C for this formula, and that is the instruction printed on your carton. It is set deliberately — hotter water damages the heat-sensitive vitamins and nutrients this formula is built around.
You may have read different advice. The World Health Organization and the UK's NHS advise water at 70°C or hotter for any powdered formula, because powder is not sterile. In the United States the FDA and CDC take a narrower position: they advise water of at least 158°F (70°C) when a baby is under 2 months old, born prematurely, or has a weakened immune system, and say that for most other babies, preparing formula according to the manufacturer's instructions is considered safe.
If your baby is in one of those higher-risk groups, ask your pediatrician which to follow before using the tin's temperature. Whichever you use: sterilise everything, make each bottle fresh, feed within the hour, and never re-use a made-up bottle.
Please read before buying
This formula is not suitable for babies with a diagnosed or suspected cow's milk protein allergy. Goat milk protein is closely related to cow milk protein, and most infants who react to one react to the other. It also contains fish oil, so it is not suitable for a fish allergy and is not vegetarian. Breastfeeding is best for your baby — talk to your health visitor or doctor before starting or changing a formula.
Store the carton in a cool, dry place. Once opened, use within four weeks. Never reheat or microwave prepared formula.

This is HiPP's German-labelled folding carton, distributed by Hipp GmbH & Co. Vertrieb KG of Pfaffenhofen, so the label text and feeding chart are in German. Retailers across Europe sell this exact SKU as “PRE” and nothing else — our title adds “/1” only because that is what American parents search for. There is no separate Stage 1 in this line. If a seal is ever broken, or the powder looks or smells wrong, do not use it; message us and we will replace it.

Is HiPP Goat PRE organic?
Yes. This carton is certified organic to the EU Organic standard and is produced under HiPP's own Bio quality programme. Because EU Organic rules already prohibit genetically modified ingredients, synthetic pesticides and routine antibiotics in the dairy supply chain, those claims come with the certificate rather than standing on their own. It is not Demeter certified — among the goat formulas we stock, Holle's goat range is the one carrying Demeter biodynamic certification on top of EU Organic.
Can I use goat milk formula if my baby has a cow's milk allergy?
No. Goat milk formula is not a treatment for cow's milk protein allergy. Goat and cow milk proteins are structurally similar enough that most infants with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy react to goat milk as well, so switching to a goat formula does not solve the problem and can delay proper treatment. A diagnosed allergy needs a hydrolysed or amino-acid formula prescribed by your doctor. Speak to your paediatrician before making any change.
How much prepared formula does one 400 g carton make?

What is the difference between HiPP Goat PRE and HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1?
