Holle Organic Milk Cereal with Banana, 250 g, from the 6th month
Holle Organic Milk Cereal with Banana is an organic milk cereal porridge for babies from the 6th month, as part of a mixed diet. The milk is already in the powder, so you make it up with water alone: 130 ml boiled and cooled, stirred into 40 g of cereal. It is built on Demeter wholegrain wheat flour at 34 percent with dehydrated banana pulp at 8.5 percent, in a 250 g box, and 99 percent of the ingredients are organically produced.
The defining feature is that this is a milk cereal rather than a plain one. Whey powder at 21 percent and skimmed milk powder at 16.2 percent are already in the box, which is why the preparation takes only water. You are not adding milk to a cereal; the milk is the cereal.
That makes it the simplest kind of evening bowl to prepare, and Holle positions it exactly there: an ideal evening meal that replaces a bottle meal as part of a mixed diet after 6 months, and a way to get a baby used to a spoon and to new food.
The grain is Demeter wholegrain wheat flour, the largest single ingredient at 34 percent. Demeter is biodynamic certification, a stricter standard than organic alone, and Holle marks this flour as from biodynamic farming while the rest of the ingredients are marked as from organic farming.
Banana comes in as dehydrated banana pulp at 8.5 percent, which is where the flavor and some of the sweetness come from. The box also carries calcium carbonate, vitamin A, thiamin and vitamin D, the nutrients a milk cereal of this kind is required to supply.
Two things to know before you buy. The cereal contains WHEAT and MILK, so it is neither gluten-free nor dairy-free. And Holle states plainly that it must not be given to babies under 6 months as a substitute for breast milk.

Where it fits
Where a milk cereal sits in the weaning day
Holle puts this at the evening end of the day, and the reason is what it replaces: a milk cereal porridge stands in for a bottle meal as part of a mixed diet once your baby is past 6 months. It is a fuller, thicker version of what a bottle would have been.
It is also a teaching food. Holle's own note is that the porridge helps your baby get used to spoons and to new foods, and it asks you to always feed the porridge with a spoon. A thick milk cereal is easier to keep on a spoon than a thin fruit puree, which is part of why it works for that.
What it is not is a replacement for breast milk, and Holle is explicit: do not give it to babies under 6 months as a substitute for breast milk. Before 6 months a baby's milk is breast milk or infant formula, and a cereal does not do that job.
Water only, because the milk is already in it
This is the mistake worth avoiding with any milk cereal: it is made up with water, not milk, because the milk powder is already in the box. If you want a cereal you make up with your own breast milk, formula or cow's milk, that is a different product. Holle's Organic Wholegrain Semolina Porridge is the plain-grain version you add your own milk to.
Preparation
How to prepare Holle Organic Milk Cereal with Banana
Holle's own three steps, and the rules around them
Easy to prepare: just boil water and stir in the Milk Cereal with Bananas. Step 1: Boil 130 ml water and cool it down to about 50 degrees Celsius. Step 2: Pour into a dish and stir 4 to 5 tablespoons of Holle Organic Milk Cereal with Banana, 40 g, into the water. Step 3: Stir and wait until it cools to consumption temperature, approximately 37 degrees Celsius. Always prepare fresh food and do not use leftovers. Please always feed the porridge with a spoon. Follow the preparation instructions on the package.

About 37 °CServing temperature
1
Boil the water
Boil 130 ml of fresh drinking water. Water only: the milk for this porridge is already in the powder.
2
Cool it to about 50 degrees
Let the water come down to approximately 50 degrees Celsius before the cereal goes in. That is Holle's own figure and it is what lets the powder dissolve properly.
3
Pour the water into a dish
Into a bowl or plate rather than mixing in the kettle or the pan, so you can see the consistency as you stir.
4
Stir in 4 to 5 tablespoons
40 grams of cereal, which Holle gives as 4 to 5 tablespoons. Stir it into the water rather than pouring water onto a mound of powder.
5
Wait for it to reach about 37 degrees
Keep stirring and let it cool to consumption temperature, approximately 37 degrees Celsius. Check the temperature yourself before serving.
6
Spoon-feed it, and make each bowl fresh
Holle asks that the porridge always be fed with a spoon, that food always be prepared fresh, and that leftovers not be used. Make the next bowl rather than keeping this one.
The three steps, the 130 ml, the 50 and 37 degree figures, the 40 g and 4-to-5-tablespoon measures, the always-spoon-feed instruction and the prepare-fresh and no-leftovers rules are all Holle's own for this cereal. Tablespoon measures are a guide to the gram weight beside them rather than a substitute for it, and the instructions printed on your box govern.
Not a substitute for breast milk under 6 months. Holle states that this cereal must not be given to babies under 6 months as a substitute for breast milk, and that it replaces a bottle meal only as part of a mixed diet after 6 months. Always feed the porridge with a spoon. Always prepare fresh and do not use leftovers. Check the temperature yourself before serving, and follow the preparation instructions printed on the package.
Milk cereal or plain cereal
Milk cereal or plain cereal: which you are buying
This is the distinction that causes the most confusion in a baby cereal aisle, and it decides what you pour into the bowl. A milk cereal already contains milk powder. A plain cereal does not, and you supply the milk yourself.

Ingredients and allergens
What is in it
Contains WHEAT and MILK
Contains WHEAT, a cereal containing gluten, and MILK. Both are in the recipe rather than as traces: the flour is wheat and the whey powder and skimmed milk powder are milk. No gluten-free or dairy-free claim is made for this product. Always check the panel printed on the box.
* from organic farming. ** from biodynamic farming.
Reproduced word for word from the ingredient declaration carried for this cereal, including the organic and biodynamic footnote markers.
Allergens: Contains WHEAT (cereal containing gluten) and MILK. Always check the panel printed on the box.
Holle states that this cereal is made from 99 percent organically produced ingredients, from Demeter wholegrain wheat, premium organic vegetable oil, and organic milk from cows raised in their natural environment according to EU organic regulations.
Demeter is biodynamic certification. On this declaration the wholegrain wheat flour carries the biodynamic marker; the ingredients marked with a single asterisk are from organic farming.
Calcium carbonate, vitamin A, thiamin and vitamin D are the added nutrients. Thiamin is vitamin B1. Nothing is claimed for any of them here beyond their presence in the declaration.
Holle does not publish a nutrition table for this cereal on a page we could read, so no energy, protein, fat or vitamin figures are given here and none has been estimated. The panel on the box carries them.
Read as a list, that is a biodynamic wholegrain flour, two milk powders, a vegetable oil, dehydrated banana, a carbohydrate, and four added nutrients. The grain and the milk between them are over 70 percent of the box.

How far it goes
How many bowls a 250 g box makes
Holle gives a cereal weight per bowl for this product, which makes the arithmetic straightforward: 40 g a bowl out of a 250 g box.

Arithmetic: 250 divided by 40
Prepared weight per bowl

Arithmetic: 40 g cereal plus 130 ml water
So a 250 g box is roughly six bowls at Holle's own quantities, and each bowl comes out at about 170 g prepared. A baby having one milk cereal bowl a day would use about five boxes a month on that basis.
That last figure is arithmetic from the box size and Holle's own per-bowl weight rather than a usage statistic, and it assumes one bowl a day. We have no sourced monthly figure for this product, and how many bowls a day suits your baby is a question for your pediatrician.
The 250 g net weight is the pack size as sold. The 40 g per bowl and 130 ml of water are Holle's own figures for this cereal. The bowls-per-box, prepared-weight and boxes-per-month figures are arithmetic from those numbers and are labeled as such. A level tablespoon varies, so treat the bowl count as a planning figure.

Questions parents ask
Frequently asked questions
From what age can my baby have this cereal?
From the 6th month, as part of a mixed diet. Holle states it must not be given to babies under 6 months as a substitute for breast milk.
Do I make it up with milk or water?
Water. The milk is already in the powder, as whey powder and skimmed milk powder, so you use 130 ml of boiled and cooled water alone.
How much cereal per bowl?
40 g, which Holle gives as 4 to 5 tablespoons, into 130 ml of water cooled to about 50 degrees Celsius.
How many bowls does a box make?
About six. A 250 g box at 40 g a bowl is roughly six bowls, which is arithmetic from Holle's own per-bowl weight.
Does it contain gluten?
Yes. The main ingredient is wholegrain wheat flour, and the declaration names WHEAT as a cereal containing gluten. No gluten-free claim is made for it.
Does it contain dairy?
Yes. Whey powder at 21 percent and skimmed milk powder at 16.2 percent are both milk, and the declaration names MILK. This is the opposite of a dairy-free cereal: the dairy is the point of it.
What does Demeter mean here?
Demeter is biodynamic certification, a stricter standard than organic alone. On this declaration the wholegrain wheat flour carries the biodynamic marker, while the other ingredients are marked as from organic farming.
Can it replace a bottle feed?
Holle states that it replaces a bottle meal as part of a mixed diet after 6 months, and that it is ideal as an evening meal. It does not replace breast milk for a baby under 6 months.
Can I keep a made-up bowl for later?
No. Holle asks that food always be prepared fresh and that leftovers not be used. Make each bowl when you need it.
Written from the ingredient declaration, the allergen panel, the preparation steps and the feeding notes carried for this cereal, all reproduced above, which are the source of the 34 percent Demeter wholegrain wheat flour, the 21 percent whey powder, the 16.2 percent skimmed milk powder, the palm oil, the 8.5 percent dehydrated banana pulp, the maltodextrin, the calcium carbonate, vitamin A, thiamin and vitamin D, the organic and biodynamic footnotes, the WHEAT and MILK allergen declaration, the 99-percent-organically-produced statement, the three preparation steps with 130 ml of water at about 50 degrees Celsius and 4 to 5 tablespoons or 40 g of cereal cooled to about 37 degrees, the always-spoon-feed instruction, the replaces-a-bottle-meal and not-under-6-months statements, and the prepare-fresh and no-leftovers rules. The age of from the 6th month is taken from the product itself, and the 250 g box size is corroborated by two authorized retailers of this cereal. The bowls-per-box, prepared-weight-per-bowl and boxes-per-month figures are arithmetic from the box size and Holle's own per-bowl quantities, and are labeled as such on the page. Holle publishes no nutrition table for this cereal on a page we could read, so none is given and none has been estimated. Last reviewed 24 October 2026.
