How many cans will my baby need?
Running out mid-week means a late-night store run, or switching formula on your baby. Work out how much to keep on hand.

Breast milk is best for babies. These are stock-planning estimates, not feeding advice. Every baby is different — always follow the feeding table on the can and your paediatrician's guidance on how much your baby should actually take.
Ranges assume the standard one-scoop-per-30ml preparation. Real usage shifts with growth spurts, starting solids, and how much formula ends up on the floor.
What is Jovie Goat Stage 2 formula?
Jovie Goat Stage 2 is a Dutch organic goat milk follow-on formula for babies from 6 to 12 months, made from organic whole goat milk, with no palm oil, no coconut oil and no maltodextrin. This listing is a single 800g can — about 208 fl oz of prepared formula, roughly 41 five-ounce bottles.
Stage 2 is the can you move to once solids have started. The change that matters most is iron: it rises from 0.6mg per 100ml at Stage 1 to 1.0mg here, because the iron stores a baby is born with begin running down at around six months and food alone does not always cover the gap straight away. Protein also steps up slightly, from 1.3g to 1.4g.
The other change is one to know about rather than celebrate. ARA steps down from 14mg to 7mg at this stage, while DHA stays at 14mg. ARA is not added at all in Jovie Stage 3. Nothing about that is unusual — EU rules stop requiring ARA fortification as babies get older — but it does mean you should never assume a fat figure carries from one Jovie stage to the next.
Every gram of carbohydrate is still organic lactose, 6.8g of the 7.1g per 100ml. That is worth noting at Stage 2 specifically, because several organic goat formulas introduce maltodextrin or starch at exactly this point in the range. Jovie does not. The can carries the EU Organic seal under Dutch control code NL-BIO-01, plus Halal and Kosher certification, and goat milk's naturally A2 beta-casein protein is the reason parents of an unsettled baby often try this category. Stage 1 comes before this; Jovie Goat Stage 3 toddler milk comes after, at one year.
What's in Jovie Goat Stage 2 per 100ml?
Prepared as directed, every 100ml provides 65 kcal, 3.4g fat, 1.4g protein, 7.1g carbohydrate of which 6.8g is lactose, 1.0mg iron, 14mg DHA and 7mg ARA. The DHA comes from fish oil, the prebiotic is organic GOS, and lactose is the only carbohydrate source.

The ingredient deck opens with organic whole goat milk powder and organic lactose, followed by organic sunflower and rapeseed oils, organic GOS, DHA-rich fish oil, an ARA-rich oil, and the mineral and vitamin panel — including the iron that makes Stage 2 different from Stage 1. For the calcium, vitamin and full mineral figures, read the panel printed on your can: we only publish numbers we have verified against Jovie's own label, and we would rather leave a row out than guess it.
Contains milk and fish. The DHA in this can is fish-derived, so Jovie Goat Stage 2 is not suitable for vegetarian families or for households avoiding fish.
Why does Jovie Goat Stage 2 use only lactose when other formulas add maltodextrin?
Because lactose is the carbohydrate breast milk actually uses, and Jovie keeps it that way through the whole range. Six months is the point where several organic goat formulas start topping up the carbohydrate with maltodextrin or starch, which are cheaper and thicken the bottle. Jovie Stage 2 does not.

Is goat milk formula easier to digest than cow's milk formula?
Goat milk is predominantly A2 beta-casein, while conventional cow's milk carries a mix of A1 and A2. A2 protein forms a softer, smaller curd in the stomach, and that curd structure is the named mechanism behind the gentler-digestion claim — not a vague promise of comfort.
The difference is a single amino acid at position 67 of the beta-casein chain. In A2 protein that position is proline; in A1 it is histidine, which creates a weak point that changes how the chain breaks apart during digestion and how firmly the curd sets. Goat milk also naturally contains oligosaccharides structurally similar to the ones in human milk, in trace amounts — a real property of the milk, not an added ingredient, and not something we would call HMO fortification.
What that means in practice is narrow, and worth being blunt about. Goat milk formula is not a treatment for cow's milk protein allergy. Goat and cow milk proteins are closely related and most infants with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy react to goat protein too. If your baby has a diagnosed allergy, you need a prescribed hydrolysed or amino-acid formula from your doctor — not this can. Where goat formula is a reasonable option is the other case: a baby who is windy, posseting or generally unsettled, with nothing diagnosed, whose parents want to try something gentler before anything medical. Talk to your pediatrician either way.
Position 67 is the single amino-acid difference between the two protein variants. It changes how the chain breaks down during digestion, and with it how the curd sets.

What is not in Jovie Goat Stage 2?
No palm oil, no coconut oil, no maltodextrin, no starch, no added sugar and no soy. The only carbohydrate is organic lactose. What it does contain is fish — the DHA is fish-oil sourced, not algae, so this is not a vegetarian formula and we would rather say so here than bury it.

- No added sugar
- Lactose only carbohydrate
- EU Organic certified
- Halal and kosher certified
Contains milk and fish. EU Organic control code NL-BIO-01. Jovie is not Demeter or Bioland certified — those are separate biodynamic standards held by parts of the Holle and Lebenswert ranges.
How does Jovie Goat Stage 2 compare to Kendamil Goat Stage 2 and Holle Goat Stage 2?
Jovie and Holle are both organic certified and Kendamil Goat is not, but Jovie is the only one of the three whose DHA comes from fish oil rather than microalgae. Jovie's clearest win at this stage is the carbohydrate: it stays lactose-only where Holle Goat Stage 2 introduces both organic maltodextrin and organic starch.

Being straight with you: if you want a fish-free can, Jovie is the wrong one of the three. Kendamil Goat Stage 2 uses microalgae DHA and fungal ARA with no fish oil at all, and is built on whole milk with its MFGM intact — its weakness is that the goat line is not organic certified. Holle Goat Stage 2 (Dutch) is the most heavily certified of the three, EU Organic plus Demeter biodynamic, and also uses algae DHA — but it adds organic maltodextrin and starch at this stage and does not add ARA. We stock both. Jovie's genuine advantages are EU Organic together with Halal and Kosher certification, a fat blend with neither palm nor coconut oil, a lactose-only carbohydrate system all the way through the range, and ARA still present at 7mg.
How many cans of formula will my baby need per month?
Around 3 cans of Jovie Goat Stage 2 per month on average across 6–12 months — closer to 3.5 cans early in the stage and nearer 2.5 later on, as solid food takes over more of the diet. One 800g can makes about 208 fl oz, or 41 five-ounce bottles.
Those numbers are worked from Jovie's own feeding table rather than guessed. The table gives 180ml of water plus 6 scoops per bottle, at 4 bottles a day for 6–8 months and 3 bottles a day for 9–12 months. Four bottles of 180ml is 720ml a day, about 24 fl oz, which is roughly 3.5 cans a month against this can's 208 fl oz yield. Three bottles a day is about 18 fl oz, or roughly 2.6 cans. No retailer publishes a cans-per-month line for Jovie, so treat this as our arithmetic on Jovie's table, not a manufacturer figure.
Derived from the manufacturer's feeding table for formula as the main milk source. Every baby feeds differently — use these for planning, not as a target.
How do you prepare Jovie Goat Stage 2?
Jovie's own instructions are to pour water at about 40°C into a sterilised bottle first, add one level 4.3g scoop per 30ml of water, shake until fully dissolved, cool to about 37°C, test a drop on your wrist and feed — using it within two hours at room temperature and discarding anything left after the feed.
Wash and sterilise
Wash your hands thoroughly, then sterilise the bottle, teat, ring and cap before you start.
Boil and cool
Boil fresh drinking water and let it cool to about 40°C, the temperature Jovie prints on the can.
Water into the bottle first
Pour the measured water into the sterilised bottle before you add any powder — never the other way round.
Add level scoops
Add one level 4.3g scoop for every 30ml of water — six scoops to 180ml is the bottle size on Jovie's feeding table for this stage.
Cap and shake
Put the cap on and shake carefully until the powder has completely dissolved, with no lumps left on the sides.
Cool, test, feed
Cool to about 37°C, test a drop on the inside of your wrist, feed straight away, and throw away whatever is left.
A note on water temperature. Jovie specifies water at about 40°C for this formula, and that is the instruction printed on your can. It is set deliberately — hotter water damages the heat-sensitive vitamins this formula is built around.
Many health authorities, including the NHS and WHO, advise 70°C or hotter for any powdered formula, because powder is not sterile and that temperature kills bacteria that can occasionally be present. The difference matters most for newborns, premature babies, and babies with weakened immunity. If your baby is in one of those groups, ask your paediatrician or health visitor which to follow for your situation.

This formula is not suitable for babies with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy. Goat milk protein is closely related to cow milk protein and most infants with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy react to goat protein as well, so a diagnosed allergy needs a prescribed formula from your doctor. Jovie Goat Stage 2 also contains fish, as the DHA is fish-oil sourced. Breast milk is best for your baby — talk to your health visitor or doctor before starting or changing a formula.
Store cans in a cool, dry place. Once opened, use within three weeks. Keep the scoop clean and dry inside the cap. Never reheat or microwave prepared formula.
Packaging & cans
Jovie ships in 800g metal cans with a resealable plastic lid. Cans may pick up dents in transit; a dent in the outer can does not affect the sealed powder inside. If a seal is ever broken, or the powder looks or smells wrong, do not use it — message us and we will replace it.
Jovie Goat Stage 2: frequently asked questions
What age is Jovie Goat Stage 2 formula for?
Jovie Goat Stage 2 is a follow-on milk for babies from 6 to 12 months. It is designed to be used alongside solid food rather than as a baby's only source of nutrition, and it can sit alongside breastfeeding. Before this stage comes Jovie Goat Stage 1, the first infant milk suitable from birth; after it comes Jovie Goat Stage 3 toddler milk, from one year.
What is the difference between Jovie Stage 1 and Stage 2?
Three things change. Iron rises from 0.6mg to 1.0mg per 100ml, because a baby's own iron stores start running down at around six months. Protein rises slightly from 1.3g to 1.4g. And ARA steps down from 14mg to 7mg, while DHA stays at 14mg. The carbohydrate system does not change: both stages are organic lactose only, with no maltodextrin or starch.
Is Jovie Goat Stage 2 organic?
Yes. Jovie Goat Stage 2 is certified organic under the EU organic scheme, with the Dutch control code NL-BIO-01 on the can, and it is also Halal and Kosher certified. It is not Demeter or Bioland certified — those are separate biodynamic standards, and in our range they belong to parts of the Holle and Lebenswert lines rather than to Jovie.
Can I use goat milk formula if my baby has a cow's milk allergy?
No. Jovie Goat Stage 2 is not suitable for babies with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy. Goat and cow milk proteins are structurally very similar, and most infants who react to cow's milk protein react to goat protein too. A diagnosed allergy needs a prescribed hydrolysed or amino-acid formula from your doctor. Goat formula is a reasonable gentler option for an unsettled baby with no diagnosis, but it is not an allergy treatment.
Is Jovie vegetarian, and does it contain fish?
Jovie Goat Stage 2 is not vegetarian. The DHA comes from a DHA-rich fish oil, so the can carries a fish allergen declaration. This is a real difference from Kendamil Goat and Holle Goat, both of which use microalgae for DHA and are suitable for vegetarian families. If your household avoids fish, one of those is the better choice and we stock both.
How much prepared formula does one 800g can make?
One 800g can of Jovie Goat Stage 2 makes approximately 208 fluid ounces of prepared formula, which is roughly 41 bottles of 5 fl oz each, based on the 4.3g scoop per 30ml of water ratio. In the 180ml bottles Jovie's own feeding table uses for this stage, that is around 39 bottles. Actual yield depends on how accurately each scoop is levelled.
When should we move from Stage 2 to Stage 3?
Jovie Goat Stage 3 is labelled for one year and over, so most families move across at around twelve months. There is no need to switch on your child's birthday, and many parents finish the can they are on first. Move gradually over several days, mixing the two if your baby is sensitive to change, and speak to your health visitor or pediatrician if you are unsure whether a toddler milk is needed at all.
