What is HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1 formula?
HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1 is an EU Organic certified goat milk infant formula for babies from birth to 6 months, made in Germany and packaged for the Netherlands in a 400 g metal can with a Dutch and French label. One can makes roughly 94 fl oz of prepared formula — about 18 five-ounce bottles.
The first thing worth settling is which can you are looking at. HiPP manufactures its organic goat milk formula centrally in Germany and then labels it for each European market, and the Dutch line runs just two stages: Stage 1 from birth, Stage 2 from six months. If you have seen a German-labelled box that says PRE rather than Stage 1, that is a genuinely different SKU with its own barcode, and we list it separately as HiPP Goat PRE. This page is only about the Dutch can.
Goat milk contains no A1 beta-casein at all, so this is A2 goat milk formula by nature rather than by design. A2 protein sets into a softer, looser curd in the stomach, and that curd is the real reason parents reach for goat milk baby formula when a baby seems windy or unsettled on a standard cow's milk formula with nothing diagnosed behind it.
What HiPP brings that most goat formulas cannot is the certificate. This can is EU Organic certified under control body DE-ÖKO-001 and carries HiPP's own Bio seal, and the carbohydrate is lactose with no starch, maltodextrin or added sugar. It does contain organic palm oil, and the DHA comes from fish oil — two things the palm-oil-free goat brands beat it on, which we lay out plainly in the comparison below rather than leaving you to find out at home.

The ingredient deck opens with organic goat milk and organic lactose, followed by an organic vegetable oil blend of palm, rapeseed and sunflower oil, organic goat milk powder, galacto-oligosaccharides from lactose and fish oil, then the vitamin, mineral and amino-acid premix that EU infant formula law requires. Because our reading of this can came from a Dutch-market label, we have not verified every trace ingredient line by line — read the panel on your own can if you are managing a specific sensitivity.
Is goat milk formula easier to digest than cow's milk formula?
Goat milk contains no A1 beta-casein at all, so every goat formula is A2 beta-casein by nature. A2 protein sets into a softer, looser curd in the stomach than the A1 and A2 mix in conventional cow's milk, and that curd is the named mechanism behind the gentler-digestion claim — not a vague promise of comfort.
HiPP positions this formula as easier on digestion on exactly that basis, and the softer goat curd is a documented physical property of goat casein rather than something HiPP invented. The GOS prebiotic works on a separate front, feeding gut flora rather than changing the curd.
Now the part worth being blunt about. Goat milk formula is not a treatment for cow's milk protein allergy. Goat and cow milk proteins are close enough in structure that most infants with a diagnosed CMPA cross-react to both, and a goat formula will not solve that. If your baby has a confirmed or suspected cow's milk protein allergy, you need a formula your doctor prescribes — a hydrolysed or amino-acid formula — and not this one.
Where HiPP goat milk formula does fit is the baby with nothing diagnosed: fussy, gassy, posseting, generally unsettled on a standard cow's milk formula. Trying a gentler A2 goat formula is a reasonable, non-medical step, and that is the honest limit of what it claims.

What is not in HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1?
No added sugar, no starch and no maltodextrin — lactose does the carbohydrate work at 6.9g of the 7.0g total. It is non-GMO, which EU Organic rules already require. The other half of the truth: this can does contain organic palm oil and its DHA comes from fish oil, so it is neither palm-oil-free nor vegetarian.

How does HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1 compare to Holle Goat and Kendamil Goat?
All three are A2 goat formulas for babies 0–6 months, and they split cleanly. HiPP Dutch Goat and Holle Goat are EU Organic certified where Kendamil Goat is not; Holle and Kendamil are both palm-oil-free with algae DHA where HiPP is neither. Being straight with you: Holle Goat Stage 1 (Dutch) beats this can on two counts at once — it is certified EU Organic and Demeter biodynamic, and it is palm-oil-free with algae-sourced DHA. Kendamil Goat Stage 1 is palm-oil-free and fish-oil-free too, and is built on whole goat milk, although it carries no organic certificate at all. We stock both, and if palm oil or fish oil is your line in the sand, one of those is your can. HiPP's real case is a genuine EU Organic certificate from Europe's best-known organic baby brand, the GOS prebiotic, and a lower price per can. That last point needs care: this is a 400 g can and both rivals are 800 g cans, so a cheaper HiPP can is only cheaper per can — work out the cost per prepared ounce before you decide.

Published guidance for this can puts an exclusively formula-fed baby at about 6 cans of HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1 per month, averaged across the whole 0–6 month stage. One 400 g can makes roughly 94 fl oz of prepared formula, which is around 18 five-ounce bottles, or about 93 level scoops.

How do you prepare HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1?
Sterilise the bottle and teat, boil fresh water and let it cool to 40–50°C (104–122°F), pour the measured water into the bottle first, then add the number of level 4.3 g scoops the feeding chart on your can gives for your baby's age, shake until the powder dissolves, cool to about 37°C (98.6°F) and test a drop on your wrist before feeding.

Sterilise everything
Wash and sterilise the bottle, teat, ring and cap, and wash your hands before you start.

Boil, then cool
Boil fresh drinking water and let it cool to 40–50°C (104–122°F), the temperature printed on your can, before you use it.

Water into the bottle first
Pour the measured water into the sterilised bottle before you add any powder — never the other way round.

Add level scoops
Add the number of level 4.3 g scoops your can's feeding chart gives for your baby's age, levelling each one with the back of a clean knife — never packed or heaped.

Cap and shake
Put the cap on and shake well until no trace of powder is left in the bottle.

Let the bottle come to about 37°C (98.6°F), test a drop on the inside of your wrist, and feed straight away.
Never use artificially softened water or water that has been boiled more than once. Prepare a fresh bottle for every feed, never reheat, never microwave, and throw away whatever your baby does not finish rather than saving it for the next feed. Please read before buying
This formula is not suitable for babies with a diagnosed or suspected cow's milk protein allergy. Goat milk protein is closely related to cow milk protein, and most infants who react to one react to the other. It also contains fish oil, so it is not suitable for a fish allergy and is not vegetarian. Breastfeeding is best for your baby — talk to your health visitor or doctor before starting or changing a formula.
Store the can in a cool, dry place and close the lid firmly after every use. Never reheat or microwave prepared formula.

A diagnosed allergy needs a hydrolysed or amino-acid formula prescribed by your doctor. Speak to your paediatrician before making any change.
