Sanostol Multi-Vitamin syrup, 460 ml, for ages 3 and over
Sanostol Multi-Vitamin is a German multivitamin syrup taken as a single 10 ml spoonful a day. It carries nine vitamins, it is intended for children from 3 years as well as teenagers and adults, and this is the 460 ml bottle, which holds about 46 daily doses. It is a food supplement, not a medicine.
Sanostol is a long-standing German household name, and the reason it is bought as a syrup rather than a tablet is simple: a spoonful is easier to get into a child who will not swallow a capsule. The dose is deliberately one measure, once a day, with the measuring spoon in the pack, so there is nothing to calculate and no second dose to remember.
The nine nutrients are vitamin A, vitamin D3, vitamin E, vitamin C, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B6, niacin and pantothenic acid. Each 10 ml spoonful delivers between 42 and 100 percent of the European reference amount for them, so one dose is a meaningful fraction of a day rather than a token. Vitamin D3 is the one at 100 percent.
What it is for is narrow and worth stating plainly. Sanostol is a vitamin supplement for children to use alongside food, not instead of it. The case for it is the stretch when a balanced, vitamin-rich diet is genuinely hard to maintain: a child who rejects whole categories of fruit and vegetables, a run of colds through a school term, or a stressful period where meals slip. With vitamins A, D, B6 and C it contributes to the normal function of the immune system, and the vitamin C in it also helps protect cells from oxidative stress, increases iron absorption, and contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
The taste is built on orange and grapefruit juice concentrates with orange oil, which is why it goes down more like a cordial than a supplement. This is the classic recipe and it is sweetened with sugar and glucose syrup. It does contain a malt extract made from BARLEY, so it is not suitable if you are avoiding gluten. Sanostol is also sold in a without added sugar version and in 230 ml and 780 ml bottles, and a separate Sanostol with iron exists for children from 6 years.
Who this bottle is and is not for
The age on this product is 3 years and over, and that is a floor set by the dose rather than by taste. One 10 ml spoonful is the same measure for a three-year-old, a fifteen-year-old and an adult, which is what makes it a single bottle a whole household can share. For a family where one child is a reluctant eater, the 460 ml size is usually the sensible one: it lasts about six and a half weeks at one dose a day.
It is not for under-threes. If you are looking for a vitamin for a one- or two-year-old, this is the wrong bottle and the dose does not simply scale down. Sanostol makes a separate preparation for children from 1 year, which is dosed differently and sold here as Multi-Sanostol Syrup 300 g.
It is also worth being clear about what a supplement is for. Sanostol does not replace a diet with fresh fruit and vegetables in it, and the label says so. It is there to cover a gap, and if the gap is permanent rather than a phase, that is a conversation for your doctor rather than a bottle.
If you need iron as well
This bottle contains no iron. Sanostol plus Iron is a different product with iron added, intended for children from 6 years, teenagers and adults, and often chosen during growth phases or on a vegetarian or vegan diet. It is sold here as Sanostol Multi-Vitamin Plus Iron, 460 ml.
Dosage and how to give it
Read this before the first spoonful
This product contains vitamin A. Pregnant women, and women in whom pregnancy cannot be ruled out, should consult their doctor before starting consumption. The recommended daily intake should not be exceeded. Food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a balanced and varied diet and a healthy lifestyle. Keep out of the reach of small children.
Use the spoon in the pack
The dose is 10 ml, and the measuring spoon supplied is what makes that 10 ml. A kitchen teaspoon is roughly 5 ml, so measuring by eye is the easiest way to get this wrong in either direction.
One dose a day, and only one
Children from 3 years, adolescents and adults all take 10 ml daily. There is no second dose and no larger dose for an adult. The recommended daily intake should not be exceeded.
Pick a time and keep it
Any time of day works. A supplement only does anything if it is taken consistently, so attaching it to a fixed daily point, usually breakfast, is worth more than the timing itself.
Give it straight or stirred in
It is a syrup and can be taken directly from the spoon. If that is a fight, it stirs into a drink or onto food without a problem.
Close it and keep it cool
Re-close the bottle after each dose and keep it away from heat, direct sunlight and damp. Store it out of reach of small children.
Stop and ask if in doubt
If you are pregnant or might be, speak to your doctor before starting, because of the vitamin A. The same applies if your child is already taking another supplement containing vitamin A or D.
Daily amount by age
| Who | Daily amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Children from 3 years | 10 ml | One measuring spoon, once a day |
| Adolescents | 10 ml | Same dose as a young child |
| Adults | 10 ml | Same dose again, so one bottle suits a household |
| Children under 3 years | Not this product | See Multi-Sanostol Syrup 300 g, dosed from 1 year |
The nine vitamins, and how much is in a spoonful
These are the amounts in one 10 ml dose, with each shown as a percentage of the European daily reference amount. Vitamin D3 is the only one at 100 percent; the rest sit between 42 and 75 percent, which is the shape of a supplement designed to top a diet up rather than to replace it.
| Nutrient | In 10 ml | % of reference amount |
|---|---|---|
| Vitamin A | 600 µg RE | 75% |
| Vitamin D3 | 5 µg | 100% |
| Vitamin E | 5 mg α-TE | 42% |
| Vitamin C | 60 mg | 75% |
| Vitamin B1 | 0.6 mg | 55% |
| Vitamin B2 | 0.8 mg | 57% |
| Vitamin B6 | 0.7 mg | 50% |
| Niacin | 9 mg NE | 56% |
| Pantothenic acid | 4 mg | 66.6% |
Reference amounts are those of the Food Information Ordinance, as stated on this product. RE is retinol equivalent, TE is tocopherol equivalent and NE is niacin equivalent.
What the label says these do
Four of the nine carry the immune claim: vitamins A, D, B6 and C contribute to the normal function of the immune system. Vitamin C does three further things that are worth knowing about, because they are the reason it is the largest single addition at 60 mg a dose: it helps protect cells from oxidative stress, it increases the absorption of iron from food, and it contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
The remaining nutrients are listed above with their amounts, without function statements, because this product's own label does not make any for them.
Allergen and what to check
Contains BARLEY, and therefore gluten
Sanostol Multi-Vitamin is made with a malt extract from BARLEY. Barley is a gluten-bearing cereal, so this syrup is not suitable on a gluten-free diet. No gluten-free, lactose-free, vegan or vegetarian claim is made for this product.
Three things in the panel are worth knowing before you buy. The first is the barley-derived malt extract above. The second is that this is the classic recipe, sweetened with sugar and glucose syrup, which are the first and third ingredients; the without added sugar version is a different bottle. The third is that the flavour base is fruit juice concentrate rather than an added flavouring: orange juice concentrate and grapefruit juice concentrate, with orange oil.

This is the complete ingredient panel Sanostol publishes for the classic Sanostol Multi-Vitamine, in the order it is printed, translated from the German. The panel printed on the bottle you receive is the one that governs.
- Nine vitamins per 10 ml dose
- Measuring spoon included
- One dose a day, from 3 years
- About 46 doses per bottle
- Orange and grapefruit juice base
- A food supplement, not a medicine
Check the label on the bottle you receive before first use, and keep to the dose printed on it if it differs from anything here.
How many doses a 460 ml bottle holds
A syrup dosed once a day is easy to plan, because the arithmetic is one division.
| Bottle | Daily dose | Arithmetic | Daily doses | Roughly |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 460 ml, this one | 10 ml | 460 ÷ 10 | 46 | 6 and a half weeks |
| 230 ml | 10 ml | 230 ÷ 10 | 23 | 3 weeks |
| 780 ml | 10 ml | 780 ÷ 10 | 78 | 11 weeks |
Sanostol Multi-Vitamin is made in 230 ml, 460 ml and 780 ml bottles. One person taking one dose a day empties this 460 ml bottle in about 46 days. Two people sharing it halves that, which is the usual reason a household moves up to the 780 ml family size.
Doses are calculated from the stated 10 ml daily amount and the bottle volume. This product's own page does not state a shelf life after opening, so follow the date and the opened storage note printed on your bottle.

Frequently asked questions
How much Sanostol do I give, and how often?
10 ml once a day, measured with the spoon supplied in the pack. That is the dose for children from 3 years, for adolescents and for adults alike. The recommended daily intake should not be exceeded.
From what age can it be taken?
From 3 years. It is not intended for younger children and the dose does not scale down. For a child from 1 year, Sanostol makes a separate preparation, sold here as Multi-Sanostol Syrup 300 g.
Is this a medicine?
No. Sanostol Multi-Vitamin is a food supplement. Multi-Sanostol Syrup 300 g is the one in the range that its own page describes as approved as a medicine for children from 1 year, and it is a different product with a different dose.
Does it contain gluten?
Yes. It is made with a malt extract from BARLEY, which is a gluten-bearing cereal, so it is not suitable on a gluten-free diet.
Can I take it while pregnant?
The product contains vitamin A, and the label states that pregnant women, and women in whom pregnancy cannot be ruled out, should consult their doctor before starting consumption. Ask your doctor rather than starting it.
How many doses are in the 460 ml bottle?
46, at one 10 ml dose a day, which is about six and a half weeks for one person. The 230 ml bottle holds 23 doses and the 780 ml bottle holds 78.
Which nine vitamins are in it?
Vitamin A, vitamin D3, vitamin E, vitamin C, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B6, niacin and pantothenic acid. The amount of each per 10 ml dose is in the nutrition table on this page.
Can adults take the same bottle?
Yes, and at the same 10 ml daily dose. That is why the 460 ml and 780 ml bottles are usually bought as a household supply rather than for one child.
