Stage 1 Baby Formula (0–6 Months)

Stage 1 baby formula is a first infant milk, suitable from birth and nutritionally complete on its own. In Europe a Stage 1 formula can be used for the whole of the first year — there is no point at which a baby must move on from it.

This collection holds every first infant milk we stock, across HiPP, Holle, Kendamil, Aptamil, Jovie and NannyCare, including cow milk and goat milk options and the specialised first milks.

Choosing a first formula

• Cow or goat. Cow milk formula is the usual starting point. Goat milk formula is a whole-milk alternative some parents prefer — it is not a formula for diagnosed cow’s milk protein allergy.
• Organic or classic. HiPP and Holle are certified organic; Kendamil has organic and classic lines; Aptamil is not organic.
• Powder or ready to feed. Powder is the everyday choice. Ready-to-feed bottles are useful for travel and night feeds.
• Start with one and give it time. A new formula usually needs one to two weeks before you can judge it.

Questions parents ask

When does my baby move to Stage 2? Not automatically at six months. European Stage 1 formulas remain suitable to twelve months. Moving up is a choice, not a requirement.

Can I combine formula with breastfeeding? Yes. Stage 1 formula is designed to work alongside breast milk as well as on its own.

How much will we go through? Most exclusively formula-fed newborns use roughly four to six packs a month, rising as they grow. Each product page gives a figure for that specific pack size.
