What it is

HiPP BabySoft Nappy Rash Care Cream, 100 ml, from the first day of life

HiPP BabySoft Nappy Rash Care Cream is a zinc oxide nappy cream for the diaper area, suitable from the first day of life. It is a 100 ml tube that forms a protective film to keep moisture off the skin, it is fragrance-free, and it carries zinc oxide, panthenol, natural wool wax and organic almond oil. HiPP states it reduces mild redness and soothes irritated skin, and it is made to be used preventively at every change.

A nappy cream has one job that nothing else in the bathroom does: it sits between a baby's skin and a wet nappy. HiPP builds this one around zinc oxide, which is the ingredient that makes a barrier cream a barrier rather than a moisturizer, and the point of it is the film it leaves behind. HiPP's own description is that it forms a protective layer in the nappy area and so prevents soreness.

It is meant to be used before there is a problem rather than after. HiPP says it can be applied thinly at every nappy change and used preventively every day, which is a different pattern from a cream you reach for only when something has already gone wrong. The baby barrier cream that works is usually the one that is already on, which is why the tube is designed to live on the changing table.

Alongside the zinc the panel carries panthenol, which is provitamin B5, glycerin, organic almond oil as Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil, natural wool wax as Lanolin, beeswax as Cera Alba, and vitamin E in two forms. Those are the care ingredients sitting inside what is otherwise a barrier product.

It is fragrance-free, and that is worth stating plainly because most of the HiPP range is not: there is no Parfum anywhere on this panel. HiPP also gives it 0% microplastics, and makes it without parabens and without mineral oil. HiPP states the formula is 98 percent biodegradable by OECD 301/302 or equivalent methods, and that the product is not tested on animals. As a German baby care product it is the everyday changing-table tube rather than a treatment.

Whose skin it suits

When to use it, and when not to

HiPP dates this cream from the first day of life and describes it as a skin protection cream for the whole family, so it is not limited to the nappy years. Where it belongs is any skin that is going to be shut in against moisture: the nappy area first, and then the places a bib or a dribbled chin keeps damp.

The important limit is the one HiPP states itself. This cream should not be applied to open skin. If the skin in the nappy area is broken, weeping or not settling, that is a conversation with your pediatrician rather than a thicker layer of cream. A barrier product is for intact skin that you are protecting, not for a wound.

The second thing to know is what it is made of. It contains Lanolin, which is wool wax, and Cera Alba, which is beeswax, so it is not a vegan product. It also contains sweet almond oil. Lanolin is one of the better-known contact sensitizers in skin care, so read the panel before the first use if your family watches for either lanolin or nut sensitivity.

Thin layers, not thick ones

HiPP's own guidance is to apply it thinly, because a thick layer traps moisture against the skin instead of keeping it off. That is the opposite of how a barrier cream is often used. A thin, even film at every change does more than a heavy one applied occasionally.

Using it

How to use it at a nappy change

Read this first

For external use only. Do not apply it to open skin; speak to your pediatrician if the skin is broken or not settling. Keep it away from the eyes and the mouth. Keep the tube out of reach of children. Stop using it if the skin becomes red or irritated and that does not settle. Check the ingredient panel printed on your own tube before the first use.

HiPP publishes no quantity per application for this cream. What HiPP does state is the frequency and the thickness: thinly, at every nappy change, and preventively every day. The steps below are built around that guidance together with ordinary changing practice. Follow whatever is printed on the tube you receive.

1

Clean the area

Clean the whole nappy area with water and a soft cloth, or with a wipe, working front to back. The cream goes on clean skin rather than over what was there before.

2

Dry it properly

Pat the skin dry, and mean it: into the groin creases and the folds at the top of the legs. Cream over damp skin seals the damp in, which is the thing you are trying to avoid.

3

Take a small amount

A little onto your fingertips is enough. This is a zinc cream and it covers further than it looks as you spread it.

4

Spread it thinly

An even, thin film over the skin the nappy touches. HiPP is explicit that thick layers trap moisture, so thin and complete beats thick and patchy.

5

Leave the creases alone

Go over the creases rather than packing cream into them. A ridge of cream in a fold holds moisture in the one place you least want it.

6

Every change, not just the bad ones

HiPP positions this as preventive daily care, so the routine is at every change. Wash your hands afterwards and close the tube.

Do not apply to open skin. HiPP states this directly, and advises speaking to a pediatrician instead. For external use only. Avoid the eyes. Keep out of reach of children. Contains lanolin and sweet almond oil, so read the panel on your own tube before first use. Close the tube after each use and store it at room temperature.
What is in it

What is in HiPP BabySoft Nappy Rash Care Cream

The ingredient panel HiPP publishes for this cream is below, followed by a translation, because a cosmetic panel is written in INCI names that say very little to most people.

No fragrance, but it does contain lanolin and almond

There is no Parfum on this panel, so this is a genuinely fragrance-free cream rather than a lightly scented one. Lanolin is wool wax and Cera Alba is beeswax, so the cream is not vegan and it is worth knowing about if lanolin is something you avoid. Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil is sweet almond oil. Read the full panel before use if nut allergy is a concern in your family.

On the label

Ingredients and more

Aqua, Ethylhexyl Stearate, Zinc Oxide, Glycerin, Panthenol, Polyglyceryl-2 Dipolyhydroxystearate, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Cera Alba, Glyceryl Oleate, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil, Lanolin, Tocopheryl Acetate, Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Lecithin, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Magnesium Sulfate, Hydrogenated Palm Glycerides Citrate.

Allergens: contains lanolin, as Lanolin, and contains sweet almond, as Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil. Contains beeswax, as Cera Alba. No Parfum. A cosmetic carries no statutory allergen declaration, so this is a read-the-label note rather than a declaration. Names are given in INCI form, as published.

This is the panel HiPP publishes for HiPP Babysanft Wundschutz, and it is the same panel entry for entry on HiPP's own listing and on an authorized HiPP retailer's listing. The panel printed on the tube you receive is the one that governs, and cosmetic formulations are revised from time to time.

What the main ingredients are doing

On the panel What it is
Aqua Water, the base of the cream
Zinc Oxide The mineral that forms the protective film over the skin
Ethylhexyl Stearate An emollient ester, the main oil phase of the cream
Glycerin Draws water into the skin, so it does not feel tight
Panthenol Provitamin B5, long used in skin care
Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil Sweet almond oil, HiPP's organic almond component
Lanolin Natural wool wax, the ingredient HiPP names as wool wax
Cera Alba Beeswax, which helps hold the film together
Hydrogenated Castor Oil A thickener and texture agent
Polyglyceryl-2 Dipolyhydroxystearate The emulsifier that keeps oil and water mixed
Tocopheryl Acetate Vitamin E, in its acetate form
Tocopherol Vitamin E
Ascorbyl Palmitate A vitamin C derivative, used to keep the oils from going off
Lecithin A natural emulsifier
Phenoxyethanol The preservative that keeps the tube safe once opened
Ethylhexylglycerin A skin-conditioning agent that supports the preservative

The table translates the main ingredients only, it is not the full panel, and it is not given in panel order. The list above it is the complete published panel.

What is left out

What HiPP leaves out of it

On a nappy cream the exclusions matter, because this is the product that stays on a baby's skin for hours at a time. They are set out here with the qualifier that belongs to each one rather than as a row of badges.

  • Fragrance-free, no Parfum
  • 0% microplastics
  • No parabens
  • No mineral oil
  • 98% biodegradable formula
  • Not tested on animals

0% microplastics. HiPP's own footnote defines this as a recipe without water-soluble, purely synthetic polymers. 98% biodegradable. HiPP's footnote on this product reads: according to OECD 301/302 or equivalent methods. Fragrance-free. HiPP describes the cream as parfumfrei and there is no Parfum entry on the panel.

What is not claimed for this product

No vegan claim is made, and none should be read into it: the cream contains lanolin and beeswax, both of which are animal-derived. No certified-organic claim is made for the cream as a whole; the organic reference belongs to the almond oil in it. No pH figure and no emulsion type is published for this product, so neither is stated. No linseed oil is claimed here, because it does not appear on HiPP's published panel. This is a skin protection product and not a medicine: HiPP states it reduces mild redness and soothes irritated skin, and no claim about any skin condition is made for it here.

Pack size

What you get, and how the HiPP creams compare

This listing is one 100 ml tube of nappy rash care cream. Because it is used thinly and at every change, a tube of this size is a changing-table consumable rather than something that sits unused.

How long it lasts cannot honestly be given as a number. HiPP publishes no quantity per application for this cream, and a thin film is applied by hand rather than measured, so any count of changes per tube would be invented. What can be said is how the HiPP creams differ in purpose, which is usually the real question behind how long will it last.

HiPP product Size What it is for
This tube, Nappy Rash Care Cream 100 ml A zinc barrier film for the nappy area
Face and Body Cream 75 ml Richer care for face and hands, not a barrier
Baby Milk Lotion Sensitive 350 ml Lighter everyday care, all over, after a bath
Gentle Care Baby Oil Oil Massage, and dry patches on the scalp

These are separate HiPP products with separate ingredient panels, listed here by size and purpose only. No equivalence between their formulas is implied, and no number of applications per tube is claimed, because no quantity per application is published for this product.

Questions parents ask

Frequently asked questions

From what age can I use it?

From the first day of life, which is the age HiPP gives for this cream. There is no separate newborn version to start on first.

How much should I use, and how often?

Thinly, at every nappy change. HiPP states that thick layers trap moisture against the skin, so a thin even film is what you want rather than a heavy one. HiPP publishes no gram or millilitre quantity per application, so we do not state one.

Can I use it on broken or weeping skin?

No. HiPP states that it should not be applied to open skin, and advises speaking to a pediatrician instead. It is a barrier cream for intact skin that you are protecting.

Is it fragrance-free?

Yes. HiPP describes it as fragrance-free and there is no Parfum entry anywhere on the ingredient panel. That is unusual in the range, so it is worth knowing if fragrance is the thing you are avoiding.

Is it vegan?

No. The panel carries Lanolin, which is wool wax, and Cera Alba, which is beeswax. Both are animal-derived, so no vegan claim is made for it.

Does it contain nuts?

It contains sweet almond oil, listed on the panel as Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil. Read the full ingredient panel before use if nut allergy is a concern in your family.

Do I need to use it at every change, or only when there is redness?

HiPP positions it as preventive daily care that can be used at every change, rather than as something to start once there is a problem. A barrier film works by already being there.

Can adults use it?

HiPP describes it as a skin protection cream for the whole family, so it is not restricted to babies. The limit is the same one in either case: not on open skin.

Is this an organic cream?

No. HiPP names organic almond oil among the ingredients, and that organic reference belongs to the almond oil. The cream itself is not sold as a certified organic cosmetic and we make no organic claim for it.

The rest of the HiPP changing and skin care range

Written from HiPP's own published product information for HiPP Babysanft Wundschutz, cross-checked against an authorized HiPP retailer's listing of the same product, which carries the identical ingredient panel entry for entry. The ingredient panel, the from-the-first-day-of-life age, the zinc oxide and panthenol content, the organic almond oil and natural wool wax references, the fragrance-free statement, the microplastics and biodegradability footnotes, the do-not-apply-to-open-skin instruction and the apply-thinly-at-every-change guidance are all taken from those sources. The 100 ml pack size is taken from this product itself. HiPP publishes no quantity per application, so none is stated. No pH figure or emulsion type is published, so neither is stated. A linseed oil reference carried by an earlier version of this listing is not repeated, because linseed oil does not appear on HiPP's published panel. Last reviewed 16 October 2026.
