What it is

HiPP Organic Fine Fruits Milk and Cereal Porridge, 250 g, from 6 months

HiPP Organic Fine Fruits Milk and Cereal Porridge is an organic milk cereal for babies from 6 months, in a 250 g box. The milk is already in the powder as skimmed milk powder and whey, so the bowl needs no milk feed added. It is built on organic wheat semolina with 25 percent apple puree, banana flakes and peach flakes, and it is fortified with iron, calcium, iodine, omega-3 ALA and vitamins A, B1, C, D and E. There is no added sugar.

The fruit is what gives this one its name and its character. Apple puree at 25 percent is a quarter of the dry mix, with banana flakes at 1.7 percent and peach flakes at 0.8 percent behind it. Apple carries the body of the flavor and the banana and peach sit on top of it, which is why HiPP calls them fine fruits rather than listing them as equals.

It is a milk cereal, and specifically a follow-on milk cereal: skimmed milk powder and whey are in the pack. That is what makes it a one-step bowl, and it is also why the pack declares milk. A plain cereal asks you to supply the milk feed; this one does not.

The grain is wheat semolina, and the pack contains gluten. HiPP is straightforward about that rather than treating it as a footnote, and it matters for the order you introduce things in: a 6 month baby meeting wheat for the first time should meet it on its own rather than alongside milk and three fruits.

The fortification is the reason to choose a milk cereal over a plain one, and each nutrient has a statement authorized for it. Iron contributes to the normal formation of red blood cells and to the normal cognitive development of children. Calcium is needed to maintain normal bones, and vitamin D is needed for the normal absorption and use of calcium. Iodine contributes to the normal function of the thyroid. Vitamin C increases iron absorption, which is why it shares the pack with the iron. Alpha-linolenic acid, the omega-3 named here as ALA, contributes to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels. Those are the statements behind the pack and nothing beyond them is claimed here.

As a European baby cereal it is made from strictly controlled organic ingredients, without synthetic pesticides and without artificial additives, and HiPP presents it as suiting breakfast or an evening meal as part of a mixed weaning diet.

Where it fits

Where this one sits in the weaning day

A fortified milk cereal is the most substantial thing in a baby cereal range, because it carries the milk, the fat and the mineral package in one bowl. That makes it the usual candidate for an evening meal as weaning progresses, at the point where a milk feed starts giving way to a solid one. HiPP also presents it as a breakfast, and the fruit lead supports that reading.

At 6 months the useful thing about this pack is that it is one step rather than two. You are not making up a feed and then a cereal; you are making up a bowl. For a family finding its way into solids, that simplicity is worth as much as the nutrition.

It is not a first cereal, for the ordinary reason. Wheat, milk and three fruits arrive together here, so if something disagreed with your baby there would be nothing to isolate. Grains and new fruits are normally introduced one at a time, a few days apart. Once wheat has been met on its own and apple, banana and peach are familiar, a pack like this becomes the straightforward option.

If this would be your baby's first cereal

Start with a single grain and come back. HiPP's Organic 100% Oats Porridge introduces one cereal at a time, and Organic Milk Cereal with Corn and Fruits is the gluten-free milk cereal in the same family if wheat is what you are holding back.

Preparation

How to prepare HiPP Fine Fruits Milk Cereal

The quantities for this box are on its own panel

A milk cereal is normally made up with water alone, because the milk is already in the powder, and HiPP describes this one as quick to prepare. We have not been able to verify a published measuring table for this particular box, so we do not print one, and we have deliberately not carried a figure across from a sibling milk cereal, because a measure belongs to the pack it is printed on. Use the quantities on the box you have.

1

Boil fresh water and cool it

Boil fresh drinking water and let it come down before it meets the powder. HiPP's printed guidance on its milk cereals is to cool the water to about 50 degrees Celsius, because water that is too hot works against the powder dissolving.

2

Measure the powder into the bowl

Put the amount your box specifies into a bowl or plate before any liquid goes in. Measuring dry and into the bowl is both more accurate and less lumpy.

3

Pour the water onto the powder

Add the cooled water to the cereal rather than the other way round, and stir it through until it is smooth. That order is how HiPP writes it and it lumps less.

4

Let it swell

Leave the bowl standing until it reaches the thickness you want. The semolina takes up liquid as it sits, so serving sooner gives a looser bowl.

5

Check the temperature yourself

Check the bowl before it reaches your baby. A porridge holds heat unevenly even when the outside of the bowl feels cool.

6

Feed it fresh, from a spoon

Make each meal up immediately before feeding and spoon-feed it. Do not keep a made-up bowl back and do not return a part-eaten one to the box.

Do not use a microwave. HiPP warns against heating a prepared porridge in a microwave because of the risk of scalding. Check the box and its liner are intact before first use, close it tightly after each use, keep it in a dry place at room temperature, and use the contents within the window printed on the pack. Take good care of your baby's teeth, and talk to your pediatrician about how a cereal should sit alongside milk feeds at your baby's age.

Confirm on the box whether it is made up with water or with milk before you prepare the first bowl. This is a milk cereal, which normally means water, but the pack governs.

Nutrients

What the fortification is for

A fortified milk cereal carries a defined list of nutrients, and each one on this pack has a statement authorized for it. This is that list, in the authorized wording rather than a looser version of it.

Nutrient What is authorized for it
Iron Iron contributes to the normal formation of red blood cells and hemoglobin, and to the normal cognitive development of children.
Calcium Calcium is needed for the maintenance of normal bones.
Vitamin D Vitamin D is needed for the normal absorption and utilization of calcium, and contributes to the maintenance of normal bones in children.
Iodine Iodine contributes to the normal function of the thyroid.
Vitamin C Vitamin C increases iron absorption.
Vitamin A Vitamin A contributes to the normal function of the immune system.
Vitamin B1 (thiamine) Thiamine contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism.
Vitamin E Vitamin E contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.
Omega-3 ALA Alpha-linolenic acid contributes to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels.

We have not been able to source a verified nutrition table giving the quantity of each nutrient per 100 g for this box, so no amounts are printed. The figures are on the pack, and no amount has been estimated. Nutrient statements are the authorized wording and nothing beyond them is claimed.

Ingredients and allergens

What is in it

Contains gluten and milk

This is a wheat-based milk cereal, so it declares both. HiPP states plainly that the pack contains gluten, and the milk is present as skimmed milk powder and whey. No gluten-free claim and no dairy-free claim is made for this product and neither should be read into it.

On the label

What the pack is built from

Certified organic wheat semolina, skimmed milk powder and whey, with organic apple puree at 25 percent, banana flakes at 1.7 percent and peach flakes at 0.8 percent, and a fortification package of iron, calcium, iodine, omega-3 ALA and vitamins A, B1, C, D and E.

The three fruit percentages and the named components are the figures carried by this product. We print this as a description rather than as a full ordered declaration, because we have not been able to source a verified complete ingredient list with every item in order for this box. The full list is on the pack, and no ingredient and no percentage has been guessed at to fill the gap.

HiPP states the ingredients are strictly controlled and grown without synthetic pesticides or fast-acting fertilizers, and that the pack carries no artificial additives and no unnecessary fillers.

Read plainly, that is wheat semolina, dairy, three fruits led by apple at a quarter of the mix, and a mineral and vitamin package. No sugar is added: the sweetness is the fruit's and the milk's own.

Portions

How far a 250 g box goes

A dry cereal has no fluid yield, so the number worth having is how many bowls a box makes. That is the net weight divided by the grams in one bowl, and here we have the first figure but not the second.

The box is 250 g. What we could not verify is a published per-bowl quantity for this pack, so we have not divided it into a bowl count. Take the per-bowl grams from the measuring table on your box, divide 250 by it, and the answer is accurate to the pack you are holding.

What you need Figure Note
Net weight of the box 250 g The size carried by this product
Cereal per prepared bowl Not sourced No published per-bowl measure could be verified
Bowls per box Not calculated 250 g divided by the per-bowl grams on your pack
Prepared yield in ounces Not applicable A dry cereal has no fluid yield of its own
Minimum age 6 months The age carried by this product

As a rough orientation, baby milk cereals in this family are measured in the 35 to 45 g range per bowl depending on age, which would put a 250 g box somewhere between five and seven bowls. We have not printed that as a figure for this pack, because the measure belongs to the pack and we could not verify this one's.

If you would like the measuring table and a bowl count added to this page, send us a photograph of the panel on your box and we will transcribe it rather than estimate it.

Questions parents ask

Frequently asked questions

From what age can my baby have it?

From 6 months, which is the age carried by this product. HiPP presents it as suitable as part of a mixed weaning diet from that point.

Do I add milk or formula to it?

No. Skimmed milk powder and whey are already in the pack, which is what makes it a milk cereal. A milk cereal is normally made up with water alone; confirm that on your box before the first bowl.

How do I prepare it?

Measure the powder your box specifies into a bowl, pour on boiled water cooled to about 50 degrees Celsius, stir, let it swell, check the temperature and spoon-feed it fresh. We do not print the quantities, because we could not verify a published measure for this box and we will not carry one across from a different pack.

Is it gluten-free?

No. It is built on wheat semolina and HiPP states the pack contains gluten. If you need a gluten-free milk cereal, the corn-based one in the same family is the pack to look at.

Does it contain added sugar?

No. HiPP states there is no added sugar. The sweetness comes from the apple puree, the banana and peach flakes and the milk.

What are the fine fruits?

Apple, banana and peach. Apple puree is 25 percent of the dry mix, banana flakes 1.7 percent and peach flakes 0.8 percent, so apple carries most of the flavor.

What is the omega-3 for?

The omega-3 in this pack is alpha-linolenic acid, ALA. The authorized statement for it is that it contributes to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels. Nothing beyond that is claimed here.

How many bowls does a box make?

We have not published a figure. The box is 250 g, but no per-bowl quantity for this pack could be verified, so dividing it would mean guessing. Use the measuring table on your box.

How long does it keep once opened?

Close the box tightly after each use and keep it in a dry place at room temperature. Use the contents within the window printed on the pack, which for HiPP cereals is usually 3 to 4 weeks.

Written from the age, box size, fruit percentages, nutrient list and product statements carried by this product, reproduced above as they stand: the 6 month age, the 250 g box, organic wheat semolina with apple puree at 25 percent, banana flakes at 1.7 percent and peach flakes at 0.8 percent, the skimmed milk powder and whey, the contains-gluten statement, the no-added-sugar statement, the fortification with iron, calcium, iodine, omega-3 ALA and vitamins A, B1, C, D and E, and HiPP's statements on strictly controlled organic ingredients without synthetic pesticides or artificial additives. Every nutrient statement is the authorized wording for that nutrient and nothing further is claimed. No complete ordered ingredient declaration, no quantified nutrition table and no per-bowl measuring quantity could be sourced for this box, so no preparation quantity and no bowls-per-box figure appears, and the page says so rather than carrying a measure across from a sibling product. 1. Boil fresh drinking water (or infant-safe water) and let it cool to approximately 50°C (122°F) to preserve nutrients.
  2. In a clean baby bowl, add the recommended amount of cereal powder (see dosage table below).
  3. Pour in the cooled water and stir thoroughly until smooth and creamy.
  4. Let it sit for a moment to thicken to the desired consistency.
  5. Always check the temperature before feeding – it should be lukewarm. Prepare fresh for each meal and discard any leftovers.

Dosage Table (Adjust based on your baby's needs; consult a pediatrician):

  • From 6 months: 40g (3-4 tbsp) powder + 135ml water = 175g portion
  • From 8 months: 45g (4 tbsp) powder + 150ml water = 195g portion
  • Smaller portion: 35g (3 tbsp) powder + 120ml water = 155g portion

Tip: Start with smaller portions and increase as your baby grows. This organic baby cereal can be enjoyed 1-2 times a day as part of a varied diet.
