What it is

HiPP Baby Gentle Sleep-Well Bath, 350 ml, from the first day of life

HiPP Baby Gentle Sleep-Well Bath is a baby bath additive for the evening, suitable from the first day of life. It is a 350 ml bottle of sensitive baby bath built around a natural sandalwood extract and a quiet scent, it is pH skin-neutral, and HiPP states that it does not sting the eyes. It goes into the bathwater rather than onto your baby.

This is the bedtime bottle rather than the washing bottle. A bath additive is poured into the water and your baby sits in it, so the product you are buying is the water itself: warm, faintly scented, and the same every night. That sameness is the point. A bedtime bath for babies works as a signal long before it works as a wash, and a bottle kept only for the evening becomes part of the signal.

The care ingredient HiPP builds it on is a natural sandalwood extract, which appears on the panel as Pterocarpus Soyauxii Wood Extract. It is there for the scent and the feel of the water rather than for cleaning, which is why HiPP describes the bath as a mild addition to a bedtime ritual and says it helps a baby calm down and relax in the warm water.

It is pH skin-neutral, which is the detail that matters on a newborn, because skin carries a slightly acidic surface film and a bath matched to that pH works with it rather than against it. HiPP pairs that with a formula built not to sting the eyes. In a bath additive that is worth more than in a wash, because a baby sitting in the water has their face much closer to it than a baby being rinsed.

HiPP also publishes this one against its sensitive specification, which is a list of exclusions rather than a single claim: 0% microplastics, no parabens, no mineral oil, no paraffin oil, no silicones, no colorants, no essential oils, no wheat proteins, soap-free washing substances, and a fragrance chosen to leave out the declarable fragrance allergens. The recipe is stated to be biodegradable and the packaging recyclable. As a German baby care product it is the plain evening bottle in the HiPP range.

Whose skin it suits

Whose skin this bottle is for, and whose it is not

HiPP dates this from the first day of life and publishes it against its sensitive specification, so the bottle is built for the youngest and least robust skin in the house. The age range is the useful part: the same bottle covers a newborn who is bathed on a towel in a few inches of water, the months of sitting up and splashing, and the toddler who has an opinion about going to bed. Nothing has to change as your baby grows.

It is worth being straight about who it is not for. This bath contains Parfum, so it is lightly scented rather than unscented, and the scent is the reason many parents buy it. If you need a bath with no fragrance in it at all, this is not that product. It also contains sweet almond seed extract, listed as Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Seed Extract, so read the panel before use if nut allergy is something your family watches for.

And it is an additive rather than a wash. You pour it into the water; you do not lather your baby with it and rinse it off. If what you want is the washing step, that is a different product in the range. Where this one sits is the water: run the bath, add it, bathe for a few minutes, then lift out, pat dry and follow with a lotion if your baby's skin tends to dry.

If you want a bath additive without the bedtime scent

The sandalwood extract and the scent are what make this the evening bottle. For the same idea without it, HiPP Gentle Baby Bath Additive is the everyday version, and HiPP Baby Gentle Family Bath is the larger bottle meant to be shared. Each is a separate HiPP product with its own ingredient panel, so check the one on the bottle you buy.

Using it

How to use it at bath time

Read this before the first bath

Never leave a baby alone in or near water, not for a moment and not for a reach. This product is for external use only. Keep the bottle out of reach and away from the edge of the bath. It is made not to sting the eyes, which is not the same as having no effect, so rinse with clean water if any gets in. Stop using it if the skin becomes red or irritated, and speak to your doctor or pharmacist if that does not settle.

1

Get everything ready first

Towel, nightclothes, diaper and the bottle all within arm's reach before your baby goes anywhere near the water. The point is that you never have to turn away or stand up.

2

Run the bath to about 36 degrees

HiPP gives the bath temperature for this product as approximately 36 degrees Celsius, which is close to body temperature. Check it yourself with your wrist or elbow rather than your hand, and run the cold tap last so the tap is not hot to touch.

3

Add two to three splashes

HiPP's own instruction is to spread 2 to 3 generous splashes through the water. Add it to the water rather than onto your baby, and swirl it through before your baby goes in so it is evenly spread.

4

Bathe for five to seven minutes

The bath time HiPP gives for this product is 5 to 7 minutes. That is short on purpose: a long soak in warm water takes moisture out of a baby's skin rather than putting it in.

5

No rinsing step needed

This is a bath additive, so there is nothing to wash off afterwards. If you also want to wash hair or skin, use a wash made for that and keep this bottle for the water.

6

Pat dry, then moisturize

Lift out, pat rather than rub, and dry the creases properly: neck folds, behind the ears, under the arms and the backs of the knees. Follow with a lotion or cream if the skin tends to dryness.

The quantity, the bath temperature and the bath time above are HiPP's own instructions for this product, as carried on this listing's transcription of the bottle. The surrounding steps are general practice for bathing a baby rather than manufacturer instructions. Follow whatever is printed on the bottle you receive.

Never leave a baby unattended in or near water. For external use only. Avoid direct contact with the eyes and rinse with clean water if it happens. Keep the bottle out of reach of children. Discontinue use if the skin reacts, and check the ingredient panel on your bottle before first use.
What is in it

What is in HiPP Baby Gentle Sleep-Well Bath

The full ingredient panel for this bottle is below. Underneath it is a translation of the main entries, because a panel for a bath additive is written in INCI names that say nothing to most people.

Lightly fragranced, and it contains almond

Parfum appears on the panel, so this is a mildly scented bath rather than an unscented one. HiPP states the fragrance leaves out the fragrance substances classed as allergens under the Cosmetics Regulation, which is not the same as being fragrance-free. Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Seed Extract is sweet almond. Read the full panel before use if nut allergy is a concern in your family.

Ingredients and more

Aqua, Hydrogenated Starch Hydrolysate, Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine, Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate, Sodium Chloride, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Seed Extract, Pterocarpus Soyauxii Wood Extract, Glycerin, Tocopherol, Glyceryl Oleate, Sodium Anisate, Citric Acid, Levulinic Acid, Sodium Levulinate, Coco-Glucoside, Hydrogenated Palm Glycerides Citrate, Parfum.

Allergens: contains Parfum, and contains sweet almond as Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Seed Extract. A cosmetic carries no statutory allergen declaration, so this is a read-the-label note and not a declaration. Names are given in INCI form, as printed.

This panel is the one carried on this listing for this bottle. HiPP's own German product page for this item could not be retrieved while this page was written, so the panel has not been re-checked against the manufacturer's current published list. The panel printed on the bottle you receive is the one that governs, and cosmetic formulations are revised from time to time.

What is left out

What HiPP leaves out of it

On a baby bath the exclusions are often the reason for buying, so they are worth setting out properly with the qualifier that belongs to each one rather than as a row of badges.

  • 0% microplastics
  • No parabens
  • No mineral oil
  • No paraffin oil
  • No silicones
  • No colorants
  • No essential oils
  • No wheat proteins
  • Soap-free washing substances
  • pH skin-neutral
  • Biodegradable recipe
  • Recyclable packaging

These are HiPP's own statements for this product, as carried on this listing. Free from allergy-suspect fragrances is HiPP's wording and its footnote refers to the Cosmetics Regulation, meaning the declarable fragrance allergens are left out; the product still contains Parfum. Vegan is given by HiPP as free from animal raw materials. 0% microplastics is given as free from microplastic particles. No percentage, test method or certification body is published alongside the biodegradable statement for this product, so none is quoted here.

What is not claimed for this product

No fragrance-free, organic, certified-organic or dermatologically-tested claim is made for this bath, and none should be read into it. It contains Parfum. HiPP makes no claim about any skin condition for it, and neither do we. It is a bath additive and a calming part of a bedtime routine, not a sleep aid and not a treatment: no claim is made that it will make a baby sleep.

An earlier version of this listing described the product as climate positive. HiPP no longer publishes a climate or carbon claim for its baby care range, so that statement has been removed rather than carried forward.

Pack size

What you get, and how long a 350 ml bottle lasts

This listing is one 350 ml bottle of bath additive. It is used by the splash rather than by the measure, which is the honest answer to how long it lasts.

HiPP publishes the dose as 2 to 3 generous splashes, and a splash is not a volume. Because no millilitre figure per bath is published, no number of baths per bottle is given here: any such count would be arithmetic on an invented quantity. What can be said is how the HiPP bath products compare on size and purpose, which is usually the real question behind how long it will last.

HiPP bath product Size What it is for
This bottle, Sleep-Well Bath 350 ml The bathwater, evening routine, with sandalwood extract
Gentle Baby Bath Additive Separate product The bathwater, everyday rather than evening
Baby Gentle Family Bath 33.3 fl oz The bathwater, larger bottle meant to be shared
Super Gentle Care Bath Cleanser 350 ml A cleanser, not an additive
2 in 1 Shampoo and Shower Gel 200 ml Washing hair and body, rinsed off

These are separate HiPP products with separate ingredient panels, listed here by size and purpose only. No equivalence between their formulas is implied. No number of baths per bottle is claimed, because no quantity per bath is published for this product.

Questions parents ask

Frequently asked questions

How much do I put in the bath?

HiPP's instruction for this product is 2 to 3 generous splashes spread through the water, with the bath at approximately 36 degrees Celsius and a bath time of 5 to 7 minutes. Add it to the water rather than onto your baby.

From what age can I use it?

From the first day of life, which is the age on this product. There is no separate newborn version to start on first.

Does it need rinsing off?

No. It is a bath additive, so it goes into the water and there is nothing to wash off afterwards. Lift out, pat dry and moisturize if the skin needs it.

Will it make my baby sleep?

That is not a claim HiPP makes for it and it is not one we make either. HiPP describes it as a mild addition to a bedtime ritual that helps a baby calm down and relax in warm water. What a consistent evening bath does is mark the end of the day, which is worth having on its own terms.

Will it sting my baby's eyes?

HiPP states that it does not sting the eyes. That is not the same as having no effect at all, so rinse with clean water if any gets in.

Is it fragrance-free?

No. Parfum is on the ingredient panel, so it is a lightly scented bath, and the scent is part of what the product is for. HiPP states the fragrance leaves out the fragrance substances classed as allergens under the Cosmetics Regulation. If you need a product with no fragrance at all, this is not the one.

Does it contain nuts?

It contains sweet almond seed extract, listed on the panel as Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Seed Extract. Read the full ingredient panel before use if nut allergy is a concern in your family.

How many baths does a 350 ml bottle give?

We do not state a number. HiPP gives the dose as 2 to 3 splashes rather than as a quantity in millilitres, so a count of baths per bottle would be arithmetic on a figure nobody publishes.

Is it the same as the HiPP Gentle Baby Bath Additive?

No. Both go into the bathwater, but they are different HiPP products with different ingredient panels. This listing is the 350 ml Sleep-Well Bath with sandalwood extract, which is the one built for the evening.

Explore the range

The rest of the HiPP bath and skin care range

Written from the ingredient panel, claim block and application instructions carried on this listing for HiPP Babysanft Schlaf Gut Bad sensitiv, 350 ml, which are HiPP's own text for this bottle. Only statements carried by that source are made. HiPP's German product page for this item could not be retrieved while this page was written, so the panel has not been re-checked against the manufacturer's current published list; the panel on your bottle governs. The from-birth age and the 350 ml pack size are taken from the product itself. A climate-positive statement carried by the earlier version of this listing has been removed, because HiPP no longer publishes a climate or carbon claim for this range. No number of baths per bottle is stated, because HiPP publishes the dose in splashes rather than in millilitres. Last reviewed 17 October 2026.
