What it is

HiPP Organic Cereal Favorite Bundle, from 4 to 6 months and over

The HiPP Organic Cereal Favorite Bundle is a mixed box of HiPP organic baby cereals, put together from the HiPP cereals most often bought here. It brings together HiPP's milk cereals and its milk-free grain cereals, which are two different things to prepare and two different jobs in the feeding day. The boxes carry their own age markings, from 4 months and from 6 months, and the age printed on the box in your hand is the one that governs it.

The reason a cereal bundle exists is that a baby cereal is quick to try and awkward to get wrong. A baby who takes oats happily may turn down a milk cereal, or the other way round, and buying a full box of each to find out leaves four or five opened boxes in the cupboard that nobody wants. A mixed box answers the question in one order instead of five.

The two types in it are worth separating before you start, because they are not prepared the same way. A HiPP milk cereal already has skimmed milk powder in the mix, so HiPP's instruction for it is a simple preparation with water: boil fresh water, let it cool to about 50 degrees Celsius, and stir in the powder from the box's own dosing table. A milk-free grain cereal has no milk in it, and HiPP gives it three routes instead, with made-up infant formula, with whole milk and water as a half-milk porridge, or with water and fruit as a dairy-free cereal-fruit porridge.

What holds across the whole box is the brand and the standard. Every cereal in it is a HiPP cereal from HiPP's organic baby food range, and that is the one claim that is true of every box whatever the selection turns out to be. Claims that belong to an individual cereal, such as gluten free, a no added sugar statement or a particular added vitamin, are printed on that cereal's own box and are deliberately not asserted here for the bundle as a whole.

Where a selection like this fits is the stretch between the first spoon and family food, roughly the second half of the first year, when a baby is eating cereal once or twice a day and you are still working out which ones suit them. As a group of European baby cereals it covers both the morning bowl and the evening one without committing a cupboard to either.

Where it fits

Who a mixed cereal box suits, and who it does not

It suits the working-it-out stage. If your baby is already taking cereal and you genuinely do not yet know whether they prefer a milk porridge in the evening or a plain grain cereal in the morning, a mixed box will tell you that in a fortnight and at less waste than buying each one separately. It is also a reasonable way to keep two or three different bowls available so that one refusal does not end the meal.

It does not suit a parent who needs one particular cereal. If your baby has settled on a single porridge, or you are avoiding milk or gluten, buy the individual cereals instead, where you can read the age, the ingredient list and the allergen declaration before you order. A mixed box cannot promise a named cereal and this page does not try to.

It is also not the box to begin weaning on. A bundle brings several different cereals at once, which is the opposite of how a new grain is normally introduced. The usual approach is one grain at a time, a few days apart, so that if something disagrees you know which grain it was. Once your baby has met the single grains on their own, a mixed box becomes a sensible next step.

If this would be your baby's first cereal

Start with one grain and come back to a mixed box later. HiPP's Organic 100% Rice Grain Porridge and Organic 100% Oats Porridge are the usual single-grain steps, and each lets you introduce one cereal at a time, which a bundle cannot do.

Preparation

How to prepare the cereals in this bundle

Read the box in your hand before you make a bowl

Every cereal in this bundle carries its own dosing table, its own age marking and its own allergen declaration printed on the box, and those are the ones that govern. Boil fresh drinking water for every bowl, let it cool to about 50 degrees Celsius before it meets the powder, make each meal fresh, always spoon-feed it, and check the temperature yourself before your baby does.

HiPP publishes a dosing table on each cereal box rather than one quantity for the whole range, and the selection in this bundle is not a fixed list, so no single powder quantity, liquid volume or portion count is stated here. The routes below are the preparations HiPP publishes for each of the two types; the amounts come from the dosing table on your own box.

1

Sort the boxes by type

Check each box for milk powder in the ingredient list. A milk cereal is prepared with water alone. A milk-free grain cereal needs formula, whole milk or fruit added, because there is no milk in the powder.

2

Boil the water fresh, then cool it

HiPP states that water must be freshly boiled for every cereal meal and then left to cool to approximately 50 degrees Celsius. Liquid that is too hot works against solubility rather than helping it.

3

Measure from the box's dosing table

Put the powder into the bowl first, using the quantity printed in the dosing table on that box. The tables differ between cereals, so read the one in front of you rather than reusing a figure from another box.

4

Add the liquid to the powder

Pour the cooled liquid onto the cereal rather than tipping the cereal into the liquid, and stir it through. That order is how HiPP writes it and it leaves fewer lumps.

5

Let it swell

Leave the bowl standing until it reaches the consistency you want. The cereal takes up liquid as it sits, so serving sooner gives a looser bowl and waiting gives a thicker one.

6

Check, then spoon-feed

Check the temperature before the bowl reaches your baby. Always spoon-feed a cereal porridge, and make each meal fresh rather than keeping a made-up bowl back for later.

The two types, and the routes HiPP gives for each

Type of cereal Milk in the powder Prepared with Routes HiPP publishes
Milk cereal Yes, skimmed milk powder Freshly boiled water, cooled to approx. 50 °C One route, water only
Milk-free grain cereal None Made-up infant formula, or whole milk with water, or water with fruit Three routes

Quantities are not given above because they are printed per box. For the milk-free type HiPP's published routes are made-up infant formula, a half-milk porridge of whole milk and water boiled together, and a milk-free cereal-fruit porridge made with water and fruit. The route and the amount printed on your box govern.

Do not use a microwave. HiPP states a scalding risk for prepared porridge. Check each box and its inner bag are intact before first use, re-seal after every use, keep it dry at room temperature, and use the contents within the period printed on that box.
Which type

Milk cereal or milk-free cereal: what the difference means in practice

Both types are in this bundle, both are HiPP organic cereals, and neither is a substitute for the other at the bowl. The difference is where the milk comes from, and that decides what you add and which meal it tends to suit.

Milk cereal Milk-free grain cereal
Milk Already in the powder as skimmed milk powder None in the powder
You add Water only Formula, whole milk and water, or water and fruit
Usual slot The evening bowl, as a milk porridge The morning bowl, or a fruit porridge
Suits A quick bowl with nothing else to measure A baby still on formula or breast milk, or a milk-free bowl
Allergens Contains milk Read the box; grains vary between cereals

Which of the two types arrives, and in what proportion, is not fixed by this listing. Both are represented in HiPP's cereal range and both are described above so that either one is familiar when the box is opened. The ingredient list on each box is the only reliable way to tell which type you are holding.

Ingredients and allergens

What is in it, and what cannot be stated

Each box carries its own ingredient and allergen declaration

A mixed cereal bundle has no single ingredient panel, and this page does not print one. Parts of the HiPP cereal range contain MILK, and parts contain gluten-bearing cereals such as WHEAT, RYE, BARLEY or OATS, while others are gluten free. Which of those is in your box depends on the selection. Read every box before you open it, and particularly if your family is avoiding milk or gluten.

On the label

Ingredients and more

Organic cereals, with skimmed milk powder in the milk cereals and no milk in the milk-free grain cereals. No single ingredient list can be given for a mixed bundle, because the selection is not a fixed list.

Allergens: not stated here, and not able to be stated for a mixed box. MILK and gluten-bearing cereals are both present in parts of the HiPP cereal range. Each box declares its own allergens in its own panel, in the pack's own wording, and that declaration governs.

This listing does not publish a fixed list of which cereals are included, or how many boxes arrive, so neither is stated here. If you need to know the contents before you order, the individual HiPP cereals are listed separately and can be bought on their own.

Read as a whole, what can be said about the contents is narrow and worth stating exactly. Every box is a HiPP cereal from HiPP's organic baby food range. Everything beyond that, the grains, the allergens, the added vitamins and any no added sugar statement, belongs to the individual box rather than to the bundle, and is printed on it.

What you get

What arrives, and what is not promised

This listing is one bundle of HiPP organic baby cereals in a mix of milk and milk-free types. Because the selection is not a fixed list, a total weight cannot be given: HiPP cereals are boxed at different weights, so a count of boxes would not convert reliably into grams even if the count were fixed.

What is fixed What varies
Every box is a HiPP cereal Which cereals arrive
All from HiPP's organic range The balance of milk against milk-free
Both cereal types are represented Which age markings are inside, 4 months or 6 months
Each box carries its own age, panel and dosing table The grains, the allergens and the added vitamins

In use, a mixed box of cereals is usually a few weeks of one or two bowls a day, taken alongside purees, finger food and family food rather than instead of them. A cereal bowl is one meal in the day at this stage, not the whole of it.

No box count, no total weight, no named cereal, no portion count and no nutrition figure is given on this page, because this listing does not publish them and none of them can be stated honestly in advance. The 4 month and 6 month age markings and the milk and milk-free split are taken from this listing and from HiPP's own published cereal range.

Questions parents ask

Frequently asked questions

How do I prepare the cereals in this bundle?

It depends which type you are holding. A HiPP milk cereal already contains skimmed milk powder, so it is prepared with freshly boiled water cooled to about 50 degrees Celsius. A milk-free grain cereal is prepared with made-up infant formula, or with whole milk and water boiled together as a half-milk porridge, or with water and fruit as a milk-free cereal-fruit porridge. The powder and liquid amounts come from the dosing table printed on each box. Never use a microwave.

From what age can my baby have them?

This listing is given as from 4 to 6 months and over, and the boxes inside carry their own markings of from 4 months or from 6 months. The age printed on the box is the one that governs that box. If your baby is at the younger end, go by the oldest marking in the bundle and keep the 6 month boxes back until they are 6 months.

Why does a box say 5 months when the listing says 4?

Because it is the German box rather than the English export box. German labelling rules do not allow a 4 month age indication on a baby cereal, so the German pack prints 5 months where the English export pack prints 4 for the identical recipe. A 5 month marking on a cereal listed from 4 months is the other box, not an error.

Which cereals are in it?

That is not published as a fixed list, so it is not stated here. The bundle is drawn from the HiPP cereals most often bought here and it mixes milk cereals with milk-free grain cereals. If you need particular cereals, buy them individually.

How many boxes do I get?

This listing does not state a fixed box count, so we do not state one either. What is fixed is that every box is a HiPP cereal from HiPP's organic range and that both cereal types are represented.

Do they contain milk?

The milk cereals do: skimmed milk powder is in the mix, which is why they are prepared with water alone. The milk-free grain cereals contain no milk in the powder. Both types are in this bundle, so read the ingredient list on each box.

Are they gluten free?

Some HiPP cereals are and some are not, and no gluten-free claim is made for this bundle as a whole. Rice, corn and millet cereals are the gluten-free part of the range, while wheat, rye, barley and oat cereals carry gluten. The declaration on each box is the one to read.

Can I prepare them with breast milk or formula?

The milk-free grain cereals have a formula route published by HiPP, prepared with made-up infant milk. The milk cereals are water-only preparations, because the milk is already in the powder. Follow the route printed on the box rather than swapping between them.

Explore the range

The individual cereals, and the other bundles

Written from this listing's own page copy and from HiPP's published product information for its organic baby cereals. The two preparation types are HiPP's own: the water-only route for a milk cereal and the formula, half-milk and cereal-fruit routes for a milk-free grain cereal, both taken from HiPP's own product pages. Ages are those stated by this listing. Because the selection in this bundle is not published as a fixed list, no box count, total weight, named cereal, portion count, nutrition figure, ingredient panel or allergen declaration is given, and no blanket gluten-free, no added sugar, preservative-free or non-GMO claim is made across the mix: each box carries its own declaration and this page directs you to it.
