HiPP Organic Multi-Fruit Juice, 200 ml, from the 4th month
HiPP Organic Multi-Fruit Juice is an organic baby juice for babies older than 4 months. It is 100 percent fruit juice - non-acidic apple and orange juice from concentrate with banana and mango - in a 200 ml bottle, with no added sugar and no added flavoring. It carries a high in vitamin C claim at 30 mg per 100 ml, it is gluten-free, and it can be drunk as it is or diluted with water.
The fruit is chosen to keep the acidity down. HiPP specifies a non-acidic apple juice as the base, adds orange juice from concentrate, and then uses banana and mango - two of the softest, least sharp fruits there are - to round it off. The declared fruit content is 100 percent.
The only thing on the list besides fruit is L-ascorbic acid, which is vitamin C. At 30 mg per 100 ml the bottle delivers 100 percent of the reference intake in every 100 ml, which is what lets HiPP carry a rich in vitamin C claim on it under the legal conditions for that claim.
A juice is not a milk feed and not a meal, and a baby juice is best understood as a flavored drink with fruit sugar in it. The nutrition panel is honest about that: 10.9 g of the 11.9 g of carbohydrate per 100 ml is sugar, and all of it comes from the fruit rather than from anything added.
HiPP's own instruction is that it may be diluted with drinking water at a ratio of 1 to 2, which is the way most parents will want to serve it to a baby of this age. Diluting stretches a 200 ml bottle to 600 ml and takes the edge off both the sweetness and the sugar concentration.
The bottle is GMO-free in accordance with the EC organic farming regulation, which is the same framework the organic marking rests on, and it is gluten-free.

Where it fits
Where a baby juice fits, and where it does not
This is a drink offered alongside meals, not instead of them. HiPP's own instruction is to drink it between meals or after a meal, and the reason to prefer after a meal is that fruit sugar does less to the teeth when it arrives with food than when it is sipped on its own across an afternoon.
It does not replace water and it does not replace milk. Water is what a thirsty baby needs, and milk - breast milk or formula - is still the main drink at this age. A juice is a small extra, which is exactly why HiPP gives a dilution ratio rather than assuming you will serve it neat.
Where it earns a place is as a way to offer vitamin C with a drink your baby will actually take, and as a first step away from milk-only drinking. The vitamin C in it is also the reason the label mentions iron: vitamin C increases the absorption of iron from the food eaten with it, which is a recognized effect of the nutrient rather than a special property of this juice.
Dilute it, serve it in a cup, and keep it to mealtimes
Three habits matter more than which juice you buy. Dilute it one part juice to two parts water, as HiPP's own instruction allows. Serve it from an open cup rather than a bottle or a spouted lid, so it is drunk rather than sipped. And keep it to mealtimes, because a drink with fruit sugar in it that is nursed for an hour is the hardest version of juice on a baby's teeth.
Preparation
How to serve HiPP Organic Multi-Fruit Juice
HiPP's own instructions for this bottle
Shake before use. It is recommended to drink between meals or after a meal. It can be diluted with drinking water in a ratio of 1 to 2. Pour the required amount into a separate bottle or cup. Store the unused portion in the refrigerator and consume it within 3 days. Store the unopened bottle at room temperature. Consult your doctor for additional nutrition. A varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle are important.

1
Shake the bottle
Shake before use, as HiPP instructs. Fruit juice with banana and mango in it settles, and the shake is what makes the first cup and the last cup the same drink.
2
Pour out what you need
Pour the required amount into a separate bottle or cup. HiPP is explicit about this, and the reason is that drinking straight from the bottle carries saliva back into what is left and shortens its life.
3
Dilute it, if you are diluting
HiPP allows dilution with drinking water at one part juice to two parts water. For a baby of this age that is the version most parents will want to serve.
4
Serve it in a cup
An open cup or a free-flow cup means the drink is taken and finished. A spouted lid invites sipping, which keeps fruit sugar against the teeth far longer.
5
Offer it with or after a meal
Between meals or after a meal is HiPP's own guidance. After a meal is the gentler of the two on teeth.
6
Refrigerate the rest
Put the opened bottle in the refrigerator and use it within 3 days. Keep the unopened bottle at room temperature.
The preparation box and the figures above are HiPP's own instructions for this bottle, reproduced as given. The cup and mealtime suggestions are general safe practice rather than HiPP's words. The label on the bottle in your hand governs.
Do not treat juice as a substitute for milk or water. Consult your doctor for additional nutrition. A varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle are important. Store the unopened bottle at room temperature, refrigerate it once opened and use it within 3 days, and do not let a baby drink from the bottle directly. Always supervise your baby while they are drinking.
Neat or diluted
Neat or diluted: what the 1 to 2 ratio does
HiPP allows this juice to be diluted one part juice to two parts water. The table shows what that does to a 200 ml bottle, using the published per-100 ml figures. Diluting does not change the total sugar in the bottle, only how concentrated each cup is.

The neat column is the published table for this juice. The diluted column is arithmetic from it and from HiPP's own 1 to 2 ratio, and is shown so the effect of diluting is visible. One 200 ml bottle holds about 21.8 g of fruit sugar and about 60 mg of vitamin C however you serve it.

Ingredients and more
Ingredients: fruit juice (100%) (non-acidic apple juice* from juice concentrate, orange juice* from juice concentrate, bananas*, mango*), L-ascorbic acid. (partly from concentrates, fruit content 100%)
*from organic farms. Gluten-free.
Reproduced word for word from the ingredient declaration carried for this bottle, together with the free-from and GMO statements: no added sugar, with the natural sweetness coming from the fruit; no added flavoring; rich in vitamin C; GMO-free in accordance with the EC organic farming regulation.
L-ascorbic acid is vitamin C. Vitamin C contributes to the normal function of the immune system and increases iron absorption; those are the authorized statements for that nutrient and nothing further is claimed for it here. The high in vitamin C claim rests on the 30 mg per 100 ml in the table below, which is 100 percent of the reference intake.
No added sugar means none has been put in. The 10.9 g of sugar per 100 ml is the sugar already present in the apple, orange, banana and mango.
Read as a list, that is four fruits in two forms and one vitamin. Nothing is added to sweeten, flavor, color or preserve it.

In fluid ounces, a 200 ml bottle is about 6.8 fl oz served neat. Diluted at HiPP's 1 to 2 ratio it makes about 600 ml, which is about 20.3 fl oz of drink from one bottle.
How many bottles a month a baby uses is not something we can give you a sourced figure for, and it depends far more on whether you dilute and how often you offer juice at all than on the product. We have left the monthly figure out rather than invent one.
The per-100 ml column is the published table for this juice. The 200 ml column and the fluid-ounce conversions are arithmetic from it and from the bottle size. The percentage beside vitamin C is the reference consumption figure given on the label.

Questions parents ask
Frequently asked questions
From what age can my baby have this juice?
Older than 4 months, which is the age on this product. Milk remains the main drink at that age, and water is what a thirsty baby needs; a juice is a small extra alongside both.
Should I dilute it?
HiPP allows dilution with drinking water at a ratio of 1 to 2, and for a baby of this age that is the version most parents will want. Diluting takes a 200 ml bottle to 600 ml and brings the sugar per 100 ml down from 10.9 g to about 3.6 g.
Does it have added sugar?
No sugar is added. The label states no added sugar with the natural sweetness coming from the fruit. The 10.9 g of sugar per 100 ml is the fruit's own, from the apple, orange, banana and mango.
How much vitamin C is in it?
30 mg per 100 ml, which the label gives as 100 percent of the reference consumption. A whole 200 ml bottle therefore holds about 60 mg. That level is what supports the rich in vitamin C claim on the pack.
What does the vitamin C do?
Vitamin C contributes to the normal function of the immune system and increases iron absorption. Those are the authorized statements for the nutrient, and nothing beyond them is claimed for this juice.
How many fluid ounces is the bottle?
A 200 ml bottle is about 6.8 fl oz neat. Diluted at HiPP's 1 to 2 ratio it makes about 600 ml, or about 20.3 fl oz of drink.
Is it gluten-free?
Yes. Gluten-free is stated for this product, and the recipe is fruit juice with vitamin C, with no cereal in it.
How long does it keep once opened?
Store the unused portion in the refrigerator and consume it within 3 days. Keep the unopened bottle at room temperature. Pour out what you need rather than letting your baby drink from the bottle.
Can it replace a milk feed?
No. It is a drink offered alongside meals, not in place of milk or water. HiPP adds that you should consult your doctor for additional nutrition and that a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle are important.
