What is HiPP Dutch Stage 3 formula?
HiPP Dutch Stage 3 is a Dutch-market organic growth milk — Groeimelk on the Dutch label — for babies who are well into solid food, from around 10 months through the second year. It is EU Organic certified, made from organic skimmed milk with lactose as its carbohydrate and no starch or maltodextrin. One 800g tin makes about 230 fl oz of prepared milk, roughly 46 five-ounce bottles.
The age on this tin is worth a straight answer, because the published sources do not agree. Dutch retail listings sell it as a 10+ months product; the barcode registry record for this tin reads from the 12th month. Either way, what it actually is does not change: the milk for the stretch between follow-on formula and toddler milk. Most families start it somewhere around ten months to a year and stay on it until they move to a toddler milk during the second year.
By this point milk is a supporting act, not the main meal. Your child is eating breakfast, lunch and dinner, and this tin is there for one or two feeds a day — which is why a tin lasts far longer now than it did at Stage 1. What it keeps contributing is iron, calcium, vitamin D and DHA at levels a toddler's diet does not always reach on its own.
This is the third step in HiPP's four-stage Dutch Bio Combiotik line, after HiPP Dutch Stage 2. Do not read across from the German range: that one runs seven stages in 600g boxes with different numbering, so a German Stage 3 is not this product.
What's in HiPP Dutch Stage 3?
The base is organic skimmed milk and organic lactose, with organic vegetable oils for fat, GOS prebiotic made from organic lactose, DHA from fish oil, natural lactic ferments, and a full vitamin and mineral premix including iron, calcium, zinc, iodine, selenium, vitamin D and folate as calcium-L-methylfolate. There is no starch, no maltodextrin and no added sugar.
We are not printing a per-100ml table for this tin, and we would rather tell you why than publish a number we cannot stand behind. The panel circulating for the Dutch Stage 3 is noticeably lower in energy than HiPP's German Stage 3, by a wider margin than the small, genuine differences we see between the Dutch and German versions of Stages 1 and 2. That could be a real Dutch formulation, or it could be a transcription error on a retailer's page. Until we can check it against HiPP's own Dutch nutrition data, the honest thing is to point you at the panel on the side of your tin.
What is not in doubt is what the tin is built from. Here is the ingredient story, component by component.

What is not in HiPP Dutch Stage 3?
No starch, no maltodextrin, no added sugar, no soy and no gluten — the carbohydrate is lactose, which is unusual this far up a formula range, since most growth milks lean on starch or maltodextrin by now. The ingredients are non-GMO. The honest caveat is unchanged from the rest of the line: it contains organic palm oil, and the DHA comes from fish oil.

How does HiPP Dutch Stage 3 compare to HiPP Dutch Stage 2 and Holle Dutch Stage 3?
Against its own Stage 2, this tin is the same organic line one step later, for a child eating full meals rather than starting solids. Against Holle Dutch Stage 3, the split is clear: Holle adds Demeter certification and microalgae DHA, while HiPP keeps a lactose-only carbohydrate and a lactic ferment culture where Holle's Stage 3 uses maltodextrin and starch and has no culture at all.

Being straight with you: Holle Dutch Stage 3 is the better-documented tin at this stage, and we stock it. It carries Demeter on top of EU Organic, its DHA comes from microalgae rather than fish, and it publishes a full nutrition panel we can print with confidence — which, as the nutrition section above says, is more than we can do for this HiPP tin today. What HiPP still holds here is the carbohydrate: Holle's Stage 3 moves to maltodextrin and starch, while this tin stays lactose-only, and HiPP keeps a live culture and a GOS prebiotic that Holle does not have. If your child is not yet eating full meals, stay on HiPP Dutch Stage 2 rather than moving up early.
How many tins of formula will my toddler need per month?
One 800g tin makes about 230 fl oz of prepared milk, roughly 46 bottles of five ounces. We are deliberately not publishing a tins-per-month figure for this stage: the estimates in circulation do not agree with each other, or with that yield once you do the arithmetic for a toddler's actual intake.
Here is the arithmetic you can do yourself, which will beat any average. At ten months and up, most children are eating three meals a day and take one or two milk feeds — call it 10 to 20 fl oz a day. Divide 230 by your child's daily ounces and you have the number of days a tin lasts. A child on 10 fl oz a day gets about three weeks from a tin; a child on 20 fl oz gets under two.
The practical point is that a tin goes much further at this stage than it did at Stage 1, because milk is now a supplement to food rather than the food itself. Buy one tin, time how long it actually lasts in your house, and order to that.
Yield is the manufacturer-side figure; the daily-intake band is a general guide for a child eating three meals a day, not a target. Every child is different — ask your health visitor if you are unsure how much milk yours needs.
How do you prepare HiPP Dutch Stage 3?
Sterilise your equipment, boil fresh water and let it cool to about 50°C, pour the measured water into the bottle first, add the number of level 4g scoops shown on the tin's feeding chart, cap and shake until it dissolves, check the temperature and feed straight away. Throw away anything left an hour after your child starts drinking.
Sterilise everything
Wash and sterilise the bottle or cup, teat, ring and cap, and wash your hands before you start.
Boil and cool the water
Boil fresh tap water, then let it cool to about 50°C — warmer than the earlier stages in this line.
Water into the bottle first
Pour the measured water into the sterilised bottle before you add any powder — never the other way round.
Add level scoops
Add the number of level 4g scoops shown on the tin's feeding chart, levelled off with the edge of the tin.
Cap and shake
Cap the bottle and shake until the powder has completely dissolved and no lumps are left.
Test, then feed
Check the temperature on your inner wrist and feed straight away rather than keeping it back.
A note on water temperature. HiPP specifies water at about 50°C for this formula, and that is the instruction printed on your tin. It is set deliberately — hotter water damages the live cultures and heat-sensitive vitamins this formula is built around.
Many health authorities, including the NHS and WHO, advise 70°C or hotter for any powdered formula, because powder is not sterile and that temperature kills bacteria that can occasionally be present. The difference matters most for newborns, premature babies, and babies with weakened immunity. If your baby is in one of those groups, ask your paediatrician or health visitor which to follow for your situation.
Please read before buying
This is a growth milk for older babies and toddlers who are already eating solid food. It is not suitable as the sole source of nutrition and is not a substitute for Stage 1 or Stage 2 for a younger baby. It is made from cow's milk and is not suitable for a child with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy. It contains fish. Breastfeeding is best for your baby — talk to your health visitor or doctor before starting or changing a formula.
Store the tin in a cool, dry place with the lid closed. Once opened, use within the period printed on the pack. Never reheat or microwave prepared milk.
Packaging & tins
Tins can pick up small dents in transit. A dent in the outer metal does not affect the sealed powder inside. If a seal is ever broken, or the powder looks or smells wrong, do not use it — message us and we will replace it.
HiPP Dutch Stage 3: frequently asked questions
What age is HiPP Dutch Stage 3 for?
It is the Dutch line's growth milk for the stretch between follow-on formula and toddler milk. Dutch retailers list it from 10 months; the barcode registry record for this tin reads from the 12th month. Both descriptions point at the same window: a child who is eating three meals a day and taking milk as a supplement. Most families use it through the second year and then move to a toddler milk.
Does HiPP Dutch Stage 3 contain starch or maltodextrin?
No. The carbohydrate in this tin is lactose, and the ingredient list contains no starch, no maltodextrin, no corn syrup and no added sugar. That is unusual at this stage, where most growth milks use starch or maltodextrin for satiety and cost — Holle's Dutch Stage 3, the closest organic alternative, contains both.
Why don't you publish a nutrition table for this tin?
Because the figures we can find for the Dutch Stage 3 do not sit comfortably alongside HiPP's own German Stage 3, and the gap is wider than the small, genuine Dutch-versus-German differences we see at earlier stages. It may be a real formulation difference or a transcription error on a third-party page. Rather than print a number we cannot verify, we point you at the panel printed on your tin.
How is this different from HiPP German Stage 3?
They are separate products from different national ranges. This Dutch tin holds 800g and sits third in a four-stage line numbered 1 to 4. The German Stage 3 comes in a 600g box and sits in a seven-stage range that runs PRE, 1, 2, 2 No-Starch, 3 and two Kindermilch steps. Because the numbering does not line up between the two lines, always check the age printed on the tin.
Is HiPP Dutch Stage 3 Demeter certified?
No. It carries EU Organic certification with HiPP's own internal organic standard on top, but it is not Demeter and no HiPP formula is. Demeter is a biodynamic certification, and in our range it belongs to parts of the Holle line, including Holle's Dutch Stage 3. If Demeter is what you are shopping for at this stage, that is the tin to compare against.
How much prepared milk does one 800g tin make?
About 230 fluid ounces, roughly 46 bottles of five ounces. How long that lasts depends entirely on your child. A toddler taking 10 fl oz a day will get about three weeks from a tin; one taking 20 fl oz a day will get under two. That is a far better estimate than any published monthly average at this stage, because milk intake varies enormously once solid food is established.
Can my child drink cow's milk instead at this age?
Plain cow's milk can be given as a main drink from twelve months, and many families move to it. A growth milk like this one is an alternative, not a requirement — its argument is the added iron, vitamin D and DHA, which a toddler's diet does not always supply reliably. Ask your health visitor or pediatrician which makes more sense for your child.
What comes after Stage 3?
In HiPP's Dutch line, Stage 4 — the toddler milk for the later second year. If you would rather stay with a tin we can describe in full, HiPP's German toddler range offers 1+ Years Kindermilch, which covers the same age from twelve months. Either way there is no rush: many children move straight to plain cow's milk with a varied diet instead.
