HiPP Baby Head to Toe Wash Gel, 400 ml, from birth
This is a single 400 ml bottle of HiPP's head-to-toe baby wash gel: one mild product for hair and body together, suitable from birth, so bath time needs nothing else. It is soap-free and eye-mild, and HiPP states very good skin compatibility for highly sensitive skin, dermatologically confirmed. This listing is the plain single bottle.
The point of a head-to-toe wash is that there is only one bottle to reach for with a wet, wriggling baby in the other arm. It cleans fine hair and sensitive skin in the same pass, which means no swapping bottles, no second rinse, and nothing extra left on the edge of the bath for a toddler to tip over.
It is a soap-free gel, and that is the part that matters most for a baby. Soap is alkaline; a baby's skin sits on a slightly acidic film called the acid mantle, which is its own first line of defence. This formula is built to preserve that acid mantle rather than strip it, so skin is not stressed during washing and does not feel tight afterwards. The citric acid in the panel is what holds it at a skin-friendly pH.
What has been left out is as deliberate as what is in it. HiPP publishes this gel as free from paraffin oil, essential oils, colorants, preservatives as defined by the Cosmetics Regulation, soap, PEG emulsifiers, parabens and microplastic particles, and as using no fragrances classed as allergens. It is eye-mild, which is the practical test of a baby wash: a formula that stings turns the next five baths into a fight.
One thing to read before you buy rather than after. This gel is lightly fragranced, not fragrance-free — Parfum is on the panel — and it contains sweet almond seed extract. Neither is a problem for most households, but both are worth knowing if you are avoiding fragrance entirely or if nut allergy runs in your family.

Who it suits
Whether the single bottle is the right one to buy
Buy this one if you have not used it before, if you want a bottle for a nappy bag, a holiday or a grandparent's bathroom, or if you would rather not have 800 ml of anything in a cupboard until you know your baby's skin likes it.
It is the sensible first purchase. A baby wash is something you find out about over a fortnight rather than in one bath, and a single 400 ml bottle is long enough to judge properly without committing to a large pack. It is also the easiest size to keep somewhere other than home, which is why plenty of parents who already buy the bigger pack still keep one of these in the changing bag.
Because it is soap-free and mild rather than specialised, it is not only a baby product. HiPP describes it as suiting the whole family, so the same bottle works as an adult's travel shower gel and an older child's shampoo without buying two more things.
Two listings for the same wash gel, and which to pick
This listing is one 400 ml bottle and nothing more. If you want twice the wash gel, HiPP Baby Head to Toe Wash Gel with Refill Pack gives you 800 ml in total, as a bottle plus a refill or two refills if you already own the bottle. Same gel, same formula; this page is the smaller commitment.
Using it
How to use the wash gel on a baby
Read this before the first bath
For external use only. Keep the bottle out of reach of children and away from the edge of the bath. Although the gel is eye-mild, rinse the eyes with clean water if any gets into them. Stop using it if the skin becomes red or irritated, and speak to your doctor or pharmacist if that does not settle. Never leave a baby unattended in or near water.

Head to toeHair and skin in one go
Rinse wellThen pat dry, do not rub
1
Get everything ready first
Towel, clean clothes and the bottle within reach before your baby goes in the water. Never leave a baby alone in the bath, not even for a moment.
2
A small amount in your hand
Squeeze a little into your palm or onto a soft cloth rather than straight onto your baby. A gel spreads a long way once there is water with it.
3
Hair first, then the body
Work it gently through fine hair, then over the skin. Keep a hand across the forehead so the lather runs back and away from the eyes.
4
Mind the creases
Neck folds, behind the ears, under the arms and the backs of the knees are where milk and moisture collect. Go gently and do not scrub.
5
Rinse until nothing slippery is left
Rinse with clean warm water, particularly in the hair and the skin folds, until the skin no longer feels slippery.
6
Pat dry and moisturise
Pat rather than rub, dry the creases properly, and follow with a baby lotion or cream if your baby's skin tends to dryness.
The six steps above are general practice for bathing a baby rather than instructions published by HiPP for this bottle, and they are given as such. The usage text printed on the bottle governs.

What the main ingredients are doing
Sixteen entries. A cosmetic panel runs in order of quantity, so the water and the four cleansers at the top are what the bottle mostly is, and everything from the almond extract down is there in small amounts doing one job each.

The delicate scent; no allergen-classed fragrance is used
The table above groups and translates the main ingredients and is not the full panel, which is given in full below. It is not in the order of the panel. The panel printed on the bottle you receive is the one that governs, and cosmetic formulations are revised from time to time.
Ingredients
The full ingredient panel, and what is left out
Lightly fragranced, not fragrance-free, and it contains almond
This gel has a delicate fragrance and Parfum appears on its panel. What HiPP leaves out is the fragrances classed as allergens and all essential oils, so it is a mildly scented product rather than an unscented one. If you need something with no fragrance at all, this is not it.
It also contains sweet almond seed extract, listed as Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Seed Extract. No allergen declaration accompanies a cosmetic the way it does a food, so this is a read-the-label note rather than a declaration: read the panel before use if nut allergy runs in your family.
Names are given in INCI form, as printed. Read-the-label note: contains Parfum and sweet almond seed extract.
Reproduced from the ingredient declaration this listing publishes for this bottle. HiPP's own shop page for it could not be read here, so no second source corroborates the panel, and the panel printed on the bottle you receive is the one that governs.

HiPP's full description of this product reads: free from paraffin oil and developed to minimise allergy risks, with a delicate fragrance, free from allergy-suspect fragrances, free from essential oils, free from colorants, free from preservatives, soap-free, eye-mild, free from PEG emulsifiers, free from parabens, free from microplastic particles. HiPP also states very good skin compatibility for highly sensitive skin, dermatologically confirmed.

What you get, and the other way to buy the same gel
This listing is one 400 ml bottle. The same gel is also sold here as a refill pack that works out at 800 ml in total, and the refill pouches top up this bottle rather than replacing it, which is the point of buying it that way.

Questions parents ask
Frequently asked questions
How much wash gel do I get on this listing?
One 400 ml bottle. If you want 800 ml in total, buy the refill pack listing instead.
From what age can I use it?
From birth, which is the age on this product. It is a soap-free, eye-mild wash built for newborn skin, and HiPP states very good skin compatibility for highly sensitive skin, dermatologically confirmed.
Do I need a separate shampoo as well?
No. This is a head-to-toe wash, so the same gel does fine hair and skin in one pass. That is the whole reason it exists.
Is it suitable for very sensitive skin?
HiPP states very good skin compatibility for highly sensitive skin, dermatologically confirmed. If your baby's skin is reacting to things, try it on a small area first and stop if there is any redness or irritation.
Is it fragrance-free?
No. It has a delicate fragrance and Parfum is on the ingredient panel. What it does not contain is essential oils or any fragrance classed as an allergen.
Will it sting my baby's eyes?
It is formulated to be eye-mild, which is not the same as having no effect at all. Keep lather away from the eyes where you can, and rinse with clean water if some gets in.
Does it contain nuts?
It contains sweet almond seed extract, listed as Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Seed Extract. Read the full panel above before use if nut allergy is a concern in your family.
Can adults and older children use it?
Yes. HiPP describes it as suiting the whole family, and it works as a mild shower gel and shampoo for an adult.
Can I use the refill pouches with this bottle?
Yes, that is what they are for. Once this bottle is empty, the refills on the refill pack listing top it up rather than replacing it.
Rebuilt from a body that carried a trust-block card, inline styling and a month-only review date. The ingredient panel, the free-from list, the delicate-fragrance statement, the eye-mild statement and the dermatologically-confirmed skin compatibility statement are all reproduced from the declaration and the HiPP wording this listing already published; HiPP's own shop page for this bottle could not be read here, so no second source corroborates them. The 400 ml pack size and the from-birth age are taken from the product itself. The bathing steps are general practice rather than manufacturer instruction and are labeled as such. No number of baths per bottle is given, because no quantity per wash is published. Last reviewed 17 October 2026.
