This is a HiPP organic milk cereal — a milk porridge with fruit and yoghurt for babies from 8 months, in a 250 g pack. The skimmed milk powder is already in the box, so you make it up with freshly boiled, cooled water and nothing else. There is no added sugar.
A milk porridge is the quickest hot meal in a weaning cupboard. Because HiPP has already blended the milk powder into the organic cereal, there is no formula to measure and no milk to warm: flakes into the bowl, cooled water over the top, one stir, one minute to swell. On a bad evening that is the difference between a proper meal and a snack.
In the bowl is organic wheat with 27% apple puree and 1.8% banana flakes, finished with a little skimmed-milk yoghurt powder for the mild, tangy fruit yoghurt flavour the pack is named for. The fruit is the only sweetness — no sugar is added and no juice concentrates are used, so the sugars on the label came in with the apple, the banana and the milk.
It is also the most heavily fortified kind of cereal HiPP makes, which is the real argument for a milk porridge over a plain one: calcium for bones, iron for blood formation and mental development, iodine for the thyroid, vitamins A and D for the immune system, vitamin B1 for energy metabolism, and enough vitamin C to be called rich in it — which matters because vitamin C helps the body take up the iron in the same spoonful.
This is a European baby cereal made by HiPP from certified organic ingredients, built for the stage where a milk feed starts turning into a sit-down meal. It is a milk-and-cereal pack, not a plain grain: it contains milk and gluten (wheat), so it belongs after your baby has met both.

Where it fits
Who is this milk porridge for?
It is for a baby from 8 months who is eating solids confidently and has already had cow's milk protein and gluten in some other food. Both are in this box, so it is not a first cereal and not a first taste of either.
By eight months most babies have moved from single spoonfuls to recognisable meals, and the evening milk feed is usually the first to turn into something eaten from a bowl. A milk porridge is made for exactly that slot: filling, warm, and carrying the calcium and iron a baby of this age needs a reliable source of.
It suits a parent who wants the convenience without the sugar. Many ready-mixed milk cereals lean on juice concentrates for flavour; this one uses none, and the fruit yoghurt taste comes from apple, banana and a little yoghurt powder instead. If you would rather control the liquid yourself, a plain cereal is the better buy — the table below sets the two side by side.
Milk porridge or plain cereal? Check before you pour
This box is a milk porridge: the milk powder is already in it, so it takes water only. Making it up with formula or cow's milk on top would double the milk in the meal. A plain cereal is the opposite — no milk in the box, so you add the liquid yourself. Read which kind you are holding before you measure anything.
Preparation · read first
How do you prepare HiPP milk porridge?
Water only — the milk is already in the box
Prepare this porridge with freshly boiled drinking water, cooled to about 50 °C, and nothing else. The skimmed milk powder is part of the recipe, so adding formula or cow's milk as well would give your baby far more milk protein than the meal is designed to carry. Never heat baby porridge in a microwave — there is a real risk of scalding. Always spoon-feed it, and make it fresh for every meal.

3–4 tbspRoughly one portion of flakes

1
Wash and sterilise
Wash your hands and sterilise the bowl and spoon before you start.
2
Boil and cool the water
Boil fresh drinking water and let it cool to about 50 °C (122 °F). Water that is too hot makes the flakes clump instead of dissolving.
3
Flakes into the bowl
Measure the flakes into a bowl using the table below. Flakes go in before the water, not after.
4
Pour and stir
Pour the measured water over the flakes and stir until smooth, with no dry pockets at the bottom.
5
Leave it one minute
Let it stand about a minute to swell, then stir again. It thickens noticeably as it stands.
6
Check and spoon-feed
Test it on the back of your hand or wrist — barely warm, never hot — and feed it from a spoon, never through a teat.

These are HiPP's own quantities for this cereal. Every baby eats a different amount, and the quantities printed on your own box are the ones to follow. Do not change the ratio of flakes to water unless a medical professional advises it.
Make a fresh portion for every meal and throw away what your baby does not finish — saliva on the spoon thins prepared porridge, so it should not be kept or reheated. Do not use a microwave, which creates hot spots that can scald a baby's mouth. After opening, reseal the inner bag, store the box dry at room temperature and use it within 3 to 4 weeks. From the first little tooth, clean the teeth in the evening and give nothing afterwards.
Milk porridge vs plain cereal
What is the difference between the two kinds of HiPP cereal?
It comes down to one question: is the milk already in the box? In this pack it is, which is why it takes water alone. Getting this the wrong way round is the most common mistake parents make with European baby cereals.

Read in order, the panel tells you what the porridge is: organic wheat first, then apple puree at over a quarter of the recipe, then the dairy — a whey product and 10% skimmed milk powder. The banana flakes and yoghurt powder are small amounts doing the flavour work. Everything from calcium carbonate onwards is the nutrient package: calcium for normal bones, iron as ferric diphosphate, iodine as potassium iodate for normal thyroid function, and vitamins A, C, D, E and B1. Vitamins A and D contribute to the normal function of the immune system, B1 to normal energy-yielding metabolism, and C to the normal absorption of iron.
Sugars on the nutrition panel are naturally present in the apple, banana and milk. No sugar is added at any point.

Questions parents ask
HiPP Milk-Porridge Fruit Yoghurt: frequently asked questions
Do I mix it with milk or water?
Water only. The skimmed milk powder is already in the box, so adding formula or cow's milk as well would give your baby more milk protein than the meal is meant to carry. Use freshly boiled drinking water cooled to about 50 °C.
What age is it for?
From 8 months, as this pack states. It contains both cow's milk protein and gluten, so it is for a baby who has already met the two in another food rather than a first cereal.
How much do I use for one portion?
HiPP's full portion from the 8th month is 45 g of flakes with 150 ml of water, making 195 g of porridge — about five full portions per 250 g pack. The table above also gives two smaller amounts, 35 g and 40 g, for working up to it.
Is there sugar in it?
No sugar is added, and no juice concentrates are used. Any sugars on the nutrition panel occur naturally in the apple puree, the banana flakes and the milk.
Does it contain gluten or dairy?
Both. It is a wheat-based milk cereal, so it contains gluten and wheat as well as milk and milk products including lactose. It is not suitable for a baby avoiding any of those.
Can I give it in a bottle?
No. Milk porridge is a spoon food. Feeding it through a teat is a choking and over-feeding risk, and it defeats the purpose of moving your baby on to solids.
Can I reheat a portion or make it in the microwave?
Neither. Make a fresh portion for every meal and throw away what is left, because saliva from the spoon thins prepared porridge. Never use a microwave — it creates hot spots that can scald your baby's mouth.
