Tasty Turtle - Holle Organic Fruit Puree Pouch with Yogurt, Apple and Pear, 85 g, from the 8th month
Tasty Turtle is a Holle organic yogurt pouch for babies from the 8th month. It is apple and pear puree blended with organic yogurt, in an 85 g resealable pouch. Holle declares it gluten-free and vegetarian, it is certified EU Organic, and it contains milk, which is the whole point of it.
The yogurt is what separates this pouch from the fruit-only ones. At 33 percent it is a third of the pouch, made from organic milk, and it is pasteurised, so this is a shelf-stable yogurt snack rather than a chilled one. Apple puree at 35 percent and pear puree at 30 percent are the fruit side, and a little wholegrain rice flour and lemon juice concentrate finish it.
Apple and pear are the two gentlest fruits Holle uses, which is deliberate here. A yogurt pouch is already introducing dairy protein, so the fruit around it is kept deliberately mild rather than tropical or sharp. If your baby has had apple and pear separately and taken them well, the only new thing in this pouch is the yogurt itself.
Holle designs these yogurt pouches for the nutritional needs of babies from 8 months and makes them with organic milk. The protein in a baby yogurt is kept lower than in an adult one, which is why a product made for this age exists at all rather than simply offering a baby a spoonful from the family pot. There is no added sugar in the declaration and no additives.
The wholegrain rice flour is there as the only thickener, and because it is rice rather than wheat, oat or spelt, the pouch stays gluten-free. That is useful at eight months, when grains are often still being introduced one at a time: this pouch brings dairy without also bringing a gluten cereal along with it. It is vegetarian but, containing milk, it is not vegan.

Where it fits
Where this pouch sits in the weaning day
Holle positions the yogurt pouches as a snack between meals or on the go, and that is the honest slot for this one. An 85 g pouch is smaller than the 100 g fruit pouches, which fits: a third of it is dairy, so it is a denser snack than fruit alone and a smaller portion goes further.
It is also a pudding. Offered after a savoury course it does what a flavoured yoghurt does for an older child, without the added sugar one of those usually carries. For a baby who has gone off plain yogurt, having the fruit already stirred through is often the difference between taking it and not.
What it is not is a first dairy food. From 8 months a baby can have yogurt as part of a mixed diet, but it does not replace breast milk or infant formula, and a yogurt pouch is a snack rather than a milk feed. If dairy is entirely new to your baby, give this on a day when nothing else is new.
Holle's own note on this pouch is to feed the puree with a spoon and not to let a baby suck continuously, because prolonged sucking on a sweet puree is what causes tooth decay. Keep the screw cap out of reach of children, because a cap this size is a choking hazard. No cooking, water or warming is needed.
Once opened, this pouch keeps in the fridge for 24 hours, not the two days the fruit-only pouches get. That is the dairy in it. Unopened it is shelf-stable, because the yogurt is pasteurised.

1
Check the pouch first
Look it over before you open it. The cap should be sealed and the pouch should be firm rather than puffed. With a dairy product this matters more than usual, so do not use a pouch that is swollen or leaking.
2
Shake it, then unscrew the cap
Yogurt and fruit puree can separate a little as the pouch stands. A short shake before you open it brings it back together and saves you stirring the bowl.
3
Squeeze it into a bowl
Squeeze out the portion you want rather than feeding from the spout. That is how Holle writes it, and it also lets you see how much your baby has actually taken.
4
Put the cap somewhere safe
The screw cap is small enough to be a choking hazard, and Holle states it should be kept out of reach of children. It goes on the counter, not on the tray.
5
Spoon-feed at your baby's pace
Offer it from the spoon and let your baby set the speed. A pouch fed by squeezing goes down far faster than a baby would take it from a spoon, which is the habit the tooth-decay note is about.
6
Refrigerate the rest, and use it the same day
Cap what is left, put it straight in the fridge, and use it within 24 hours. Do not keep a pouch your baby has fed directly from.

What is in the pouch, by percentage
Five entries, and the first three are 98 percent of it. Apple leads, yogurt is a third, pear is just under a third, and the last two are a thickener and a little acidity.

Portions
What one 85 g pouch gives you
A pouch is a portion, so there is no yield to calculate. Note that the yogurt pouches are 85 g rather than the 100 g of the fruit-only ones, and that once opened they keep a day rather than two.

Questions parents ask
Frequently asked questions
From what age can my baby have Tasty Turtle?
From the 8th month, which is the age on this product and the age Holle publishes for it. Holle designs the yogurt pouches for babies from 8 months specifically.
Does it contain milk?
Yes. A third of the pouch is pasteurised yogurt made from organic milk, and milk is marked as the allergen in the declaration. It is not suitable on a dairy-free diet.
Is it gluten-free?
Yes. The only cereal in it is wholegrain rice flour, which carries no gluten, and Holle declares the pouch gluten-free.
Why does it need no refrigerating before opening?
The yogurt in it is pasteurised, which is why the pouch is shelf-stable unopened. Once you open it, it goes in the fridge and keeps 24 hours.
Is this pouch Demeter certified?
No. Holle certifies this one as organic rather than Demeter, and the footnote on the ingredient list reads from organic agriculture. Several of the fruit-only pouches do carry Demeter.
Does it contain added sugar?
No sugar appears in the ingredient declaration. The sugars in it are the fruit's own, plus the lactose that comes with the yogurt.
Can my baby feed straight from the pouch?
Holle's instruction is to feed the puree with a spoon and not to let a baby suck continuously, because prolonged sucking on a sweet puree is what causes tooth decay. Squeeze it into a bowl and spoon it.
Can it replace a milk feed?
No. It is a snack or a pudding, not a milk feed, and it does not replace breast milk or infant formula. Holle presents these pouches as something to have between meals or on the go.
