Holle Fennel Frog Organic Puree Pouch, pear with apple and fennel, 100 g, from 6 months
Fennel Frog is a Holle organic fruit and vegetable puree pouch for babies from 6 months. It holds 100 g of smooth puree made from three ingredients: pear 80 percent, apple 10 percent and fennel 10 percent. The pear and apple are Demeter quality from biodynamic farming; the fennel is organic. The pouch carries the EU Organic seal. It is gluten-free, egg-free, lactose-free and has no added sugar and no additive of any kind.
Pear at 80 percent makes this the mildest pouch in the range. Pear is the gentlest of the common weaning fruits, lower in acid than apple and with a soft, almost bland sweetness, which is exactly what you want in a pouch intended for the first weeks of a vegetable being introduced. Apple at 10 percent lifts it slightly; fennel at the same 10 percent is the reason the pouch has a name.
Fennel is an unusual thing to put in front of a baby and a very traditional one in European organic baby food. It is a mild, faintly aniseed-tasting vegetable, and in a puree that is four-fifths pear you notice it as a savoury edge rather than as a flavour of its own. That is the point: it is a way of putting a vegetable into a six-month-old's diet in a form that will actually get eaten.
The ingredient list is three items long and holds nothing else. No water is added, no starch, no thickener, no concentrate, no vitamin and no preservative. Holle's own description of the pouch is that it is 100 percent fruit and vegetables in Demeter quality without any additives or added sugar, and the declaration bears that out.
The Demeter mark is held in addition to organic certification rather than instead of it. EU Organic is the standard every organic food in Europe must meet; Demeter certifies biodynamic farming on top of that. As a European baby food pouch this is a snack or an in-between portion rather than a meal, and the screw cap reseals so half a pouch can go back in the fridge.

Where it fits
Why a fennel pouch is worth having early
Weaning has a familiar drift: fruit is accepted, vegetables are not, and after a few refusals the fruit quietly becomes the whole diet. A pouch that is 80 percent pear with 10 percent fennel in it is a way of keeping a vegetable in the rotation during the weeks when plain vegetable puree is coming straight back out.
It is also one of the two pouches in the range you can reach for at the very beginning. Pear and apple are both first foods, and the only thing in here most babies will not have met is the fennel, which arrives in a small enough proportion to be a single new taste rather than a whole new meal. That makes it a sensible second or third pouch rather than an adventurous one.
What it is not is a substitute for offering vegetables on their own. Part of what a baby learns at six months is what a vegetable tastes like unaccompanied, and no pouch does that job. Use this alongside plain vegetable purees, not in place of them, and as part of a mixed weaning diet rather than as a meal in itself.
If you would rather start without a vegetable in it
Holle Apple Ant is apple, banana and pear only, also from 6 months and with nothing in it most babies will not already have had. For a vegetable-led pouch with more in it, Holle Carrot Cat is 40 percent carrot with mango, banana and pear. Each pouch has its own panel, so read the one you are buying.
Serving it
How to serve Fennel Frog
Read this before the first pouch
Feed the puree with a spoon and do not let your baby suck continuously from the pouch, which is linked to tooth decay. Keep the screw cap out of reach of children, because a small cap is a choking hazard. Serve food fresh and do not heat the puree in a microwave. Once opened, the pouch can be stored in the fridge for 2 days.

Max 50 °CIf you warm it, in water
No microwaveHolle's own instruction
1
Check the pouch first
Look it over before opening. It should be sealed and flat rather than swollen, with no leaks, and the screw cap should still be firmly in place.
2
Warm it only in water
Most babies take it cool or at room temperature. If you want it warmer, stand the closed pouch in hot water at no more than 50 degrees Celsius. Never use a microwave.
3
Unscrew the cap and put it away
Take the cap off and move it out of reach before anything else. A screw cap left within reach is the sort of small object a baby goes for first.
4
Squeeze a little onto a spoon
Squeeze some onto a spoon or into a small bowl. A bowl is easier if you want to see how much is actually going in, and simpler to stop halfway.
5
Offer it when your baby is interested
A new savoury note goes down better before a baby is tired or already full. A refused first spoonful of fennel is not a verdict; offer it again another day.
6
Reseal and refrigerate the rest
Screw the cap back on, put the pouch in the fridge and use it within 2 days. Feed from a spoon rather than returning a used spoon to the pouch.
Feed with a spoon and keep the cap out of reach. Continuous sucking from the pouch is linked to tooth decay. The screw cap is small enough to be a choking hazard. Do not heat the puree in a microwave, and use an opened pouch within 2 days from the fridge.

Ingredients and allergens
What is in it
No added sugar, and that needs a footnote
No sugar is added to this pouch. Pear and apple both contain sugar of their own, so the puree is sweet and the panel on the pack shows sugars. Those sugars come from the fruit itself, not from anything put in.
On the label
Ingredients and more
Pear 80%, apple 10%, fennel 10%. Pear and apple from biodynamic farming; fennel from organic farming.
Nothing else is declared: no water, no starch, no thickener, no added vitamin, no concentrate, no acidity regulator. Three ingredients, three percentages, end of list.
Allergens: none declared on this pouch. It is gluten-free, egg-free and lactose-free. No cereal, milk, nut, soya or celery ingredient appears in the list. Read the panel printed on the pouch you receive, because recipes are revised from time to time and the pouch in your hand governs.
The percentages above come from the ingredient declaration published for this pouch by its authorised retailers. No per-100-gram nutrition panel is reproduced here, because the published figures for the Holle pouch range disagree between sources and we will not print a number we cannot stand behind.
Read plainly, that is two fruits, one vegetable and nothing else. It is among the shortest lists in the range and one of the easiest to check before buying.

We do not give a figure for how many pouches a baby gets through in a month. Holle publishes no feeding quantity for the pouches and no recommended number per day or per week, and the honest answer depends on how much milk and how much family food a particular baby is taking. Treat a pouch as a snack and let the rest of the diet set the number.
The 100 g net contents figure is the one shown for this product and is corroborated by its European retailers. No number of pouches per day, per week or per month is stated, because no such guidance is published for this product.

Questions parents ask
Frequently asked questions
From what age can my baby have Fennel Frog?
From 6 months, which is the age on this product, as part of a mixed weaning diet. Pear and apple are both first foods, so for most babies the fennel is the only new thing in it.
What is in it?
Pear 80 percent, apple 10 percent and fennel 10 percent. The pear and apple are from biodynamic farming, the fennel from organic farming. Nothing else is in the list.
What does fennel taste like in a baby puree?
Faintly aniseed and slightly savoury. In a puree that is four-fifths pear you notice it as an edge rather than as a flavour of its own, which is why it works in a pouch for this age.
Does the fennel help with wind or digestion?
We make no such claim. Fennel has a long history in European baby food, but no digestive or health benefit is claimed for this pouch and none should be read into it. It is in here as a vegetable and a flavour.
Is there any added sugar?
No sugar is added, and no salt or additive of any kind. It is sweet because pear and apple contain sugar naturally.
Is it gluten-free?
Yes. There is no cereal in this pouch and it is gluten-free, egg-free and lactose-free. Some other Holle pouches do contain oats or spelt, so check the one you are buying.
Can my baby eat straight from the pouch?
Holle's instruction is to feed the puree with a spoon and to avoid continuous sucking from the pouch, which is linked to tooth decay. Squeeze a little onto a spoon or into a bowl.
How long does an opened pouch keep?
Screw the cap back on and keep it in the fridge for up to 2 days. Serve the food fresh and do not heat the puree in a microwave.
Will this get my baby eating vegetables?
It helps, and it is not the whole job. At 10 percent the fennel is a taste rather than a serving, and babies also need to meet vegetables on their own. Use it alongside plain vegetable purees, not instead of them.
Written from the ingredient and feeding declarations published for this pouch by its authorised retailers, which agree entry for entry. The age and the pack size shown on this page are taken from the product itself. No digestive, soothing or other health claim is made for the fennel, because none is published for this product. No per-100-gram nutrition panel is reproduced, because the published figures for the Holle pouch range disagree between sources. No feeding quantity, daily portion or monthly consumption figure is stated, because Holle publishes none for the pouches. Last reviewed 15 October 2026.
