Sebamed Baby and Toddler Care Lotion, 200 ml, for use from the first day of life
Sebamed Baby and Toddler Care Lotion is a baby body lotion for dry and irritated skin, suitable from the first day of life. It is a 200 ml lotion built at pH 5.5, made with panthenol and sweet almond oil, and formulated without alcohol, parabens or paraffin and mineral oils.
The pH is the thing Sebamed is known for and it is not a marketing number. Healthy skin sits at around pH 5.5, slightly acidic, and that acidity is part of how the skin barrier holds moisture in and keeps bacteria out. A baby arrives with that acid mantle still forming, which is the reason the whole Sebamed range is built to 5.5 rather than to a neutral 7.
The moisturising side is a short, recognisable list. Sweet almond oil is the second ingredient after water, so it is the largest active part of the formula. Panthenol, the pro-vitamin B5 that turns into vitamin B5 on the skin, is next in the list, with glycerin, shea butter, squalane and allantoin behind it. Those are emollients and humectants rather than actives: they soften, and they slow the rate at which water leaves the skin.
Who it is for is parents dealing with dryness rather than parents looking for a daily all-over cream. It absorbs quickly and does not leave a sticky film, which is what makes it usable on a wriggling baby and workable for a massage. On dry patches, knees, elbows and the backs of the legs it does more than a thin lotion would, because of the oil and butter content.
One thing to check before you buy: this lotion contains Parfum and it contains sweet almond, listed as Prunus amygdalus dulcis oil. Neither is a fault, and both are declared on the back of the bottle, but a cosmetic carries no statutory allergen declaration the way a food does, so they are worth reading for yourself. Sebamed also makes fragrance-free products if the Parfum is the problem.

Whose skin it suits
Whose skin this lotion is for
It is made for babies and toddlers with skin that runs dry, and it can be used from the first day of life. The age on this product is from birth, and the pH 5.5 formulation is the reason that works: a newborn's acid mantle is still establishing itself, and a wash or lotion built well above that pH does not help it along.
It is also a reasonable choice for a toddler rather than only for a newborn. The name covers both, the formula does not change between them, and the oil and butter content is enough to be useful on the rough patches that come with a child who is outdoors, in and out of baths, and growing fast.
Where it is not the right bottle is if you are avoiding fragrance or nut-derived oils. Parfum is in the panel, and sweet almond oil is the largest ingredient after water. Neither is unusual in baby skincare, but if either is on your list to avoid, read the back of the bottle before the first use rather than after.
What is and is not claimed here
Sebamed publishes this as a care lotion for dry and irritated skin at pH 5.5, free from alcohol, parabens and paraffin or mineral oils. Those are the claims on this page. Nothing on this page claims the lotion treats, manages or improves any skin condition, and no such claim should be read into the words dry or irritated.
Using it
How to use it
Read this before the first use
For external use only. Keep it away from the eyes, and rinse with water if any gets in. Read the ingredient panel on the bottle before first use, particularly if your child has a known reaction to fragrance or to nuts, and stop using it if the skin reacts.
Sebamed publishes no quantity per application, no frequency and no body-area guidance for this lotion, so none is stated here. The steps below are general practice for applying a baby lotion, not manufacturer instructions. Follow whatever is printed on the bottle you receive.

External useAvoid the eyes
1
Test it on a small area first
With any new product on a baby, a patch on the inside of a forearm or calf, left for a day, tells you more than the front of a bottle does. That matters more here because the lotion contains Parfum and sweet almond oil.
2
Warm a little in your hands
Lotion straight from a bottle is cold, and cold is the usual reason a baby objects to being creamed. Rubbing it between your palms for a moment first makes the whole thing easier.
3
Apply in circular motions, without pressing
Work it in with light circles rather than pressure. Sebamed describes the formula as fast-absorbing and non-sticky, so it should disappear into the skin rather than need rubbing in hard.
4
Concentrate on the dry areas
Knees, elbows, shins and the backs of the arms are where dryness usually shows first. There is no need to use a lot everywhere when a little goes where it is needed.
5
Use it as a massage lotion if it suits you
Because it is an oil-rich lotion that absorbs rather than sitting on top, it works for a baby massage as well as for a quick application after a bath. That is a use Sebamed names for it.
6
Close it and keep it out of reach
Re-cap the bottle after use, keep it away from direct heat and sunlight, and store it out of the reach of children. Stop using it and ask a pharmacist or doctor if the skin reacts.

What is in it
What the main ingredients are doing
Eighteen entries, and the first six do nearly all of the work. The order of a cosmetic panel is the order of quantity, so almond oil, panthenol and glycerin being near the top is the formula telling you what it is.

The full ingredient panel
Lightly fragranced, and it contains almond
This lotion contains Parfum, so it is not a fragrance-free product. It also contains sweet almond oil, as Prunus amygdalus dulcis oil, which is the largest ingredient after water. Cosmetics carry no statutory allergen declaration, so this is a read-the-label note rather than a declaration.
It is preserved with phenoxyethanol and benzyl alcohol. Note that benzyl alcohol is a preservative and a fragrance component, and is not the same thing as the ethyl alcohol that the no-alcohol claim refers to.
Names are given in INCI form, as printed. Allergen note: contains Parfum, and contains sweet almond as Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil.
This is the panel published for Sebamed Baby and Kind Pflegelotion, 200 ml, in the order it is printed. The panel on the bottle you receive is the one that governs.
What Sebamed leaves out of it
No alcohol
No parabens
No paraffin or mineral oils
No colourants in the panel
No soap, pH 5.5 instead
These are the free-from statements Sebamed makes for this lotion. No claim is made here that the product is fragrance-free, nut-free, vegan or organic, because none of those is claimed for it.
Pack size
What you get, and how long a 200 ml bottle lasts
The bottle is 200 ml. Sebamed publishes no quantity per application and no recommended frequency for this lotion, so no number of applications per bottle is claimed here and none should be inferred from the size.

Questions parents ask
Frequently asked questions
From what age can I use it?
From the first day of life, which is the age on this product. The formula does not change between a newborn and a toddler.
Why does the pH matter?
Healthy skin is slightly acidic, at around pH 5.5, and that acidity is part of how the skin barrier works. Sebamed builds this lotion to 5.5 rather than to a neutral 7, which is the principle the whole range is based on.
Is it fragrance-free?
No. Parfum appears in the ingredient panel. If you need a fragrance-free lotion, this is not the one.
Does it contain nuts?
It contains sweet almond oil, listed as Prunus amygdalus dulcis oil, and it is the largest ingredient after water. Read the panel on the bottle if nut-derived oils are a concern for your child.
How much should I use, and how often?
Sebamed publishes no quantity per application and no frequency for this lotion, so none is stated here. Follow what is printed on the bottle you receive.
Can I use it for a baby massage?
Yes, that is one of the uses named for it. It is oil-rich enough to give you working time and absorbs without leaving a sticky film.
Does it contain alcohol?
Not as a solvent. Sebamed states the lotion is formulated without alcohol. Benzyl alcohol does appear in the panel, but that is a preservative and fragrance component rather than the drying ethyl alcohol the claim refers to.
Will it help a skin condition?
No such claim is made for it on this page. What Sebamed publishes is a care lotion for dry and irritated skin at pH 5.5. Anything beyond that is a question for your doctor or pharmacist.
Written from the published product information and printed ingredient panel for Sebamed Baby and Kind Pflegelotion, 200 ml, which supply the pH 5.5 figure, the INCI panel in printed order and the free-from statements. The 200 ml pack size and the from-birth age are taken from the product itself. No quantity per application, frequency or applications-per-bottle figure is stated, because Sebamed publishes none, and the application steps on this page are identified as general practice rather than manufacturer instructions. No claim is made for any effect on a named skin condition. Last reviewed 17 October 2026.
