What it is

Holle Carrot Cat Organic Puree Pouch, carrot with mango, banana and pear, 100 g, from 6 months

Carrot Cat is a Holle organic fruit and vegetable puree pouch for babies from 6 months. It holds 100 g of smooth puree led by carrot at 40 percent, with mango, banana and pear at 20 percent each and a trace of lemon juice concentrate. The vegetables and fruit are Demeter quality from biodynamic agriculture and the pouch carries the EU Organic seal. It is gluten-free, lactose-free, vegan and has no added sugar.

This is the vegetable one, and that is the reason to buy it. Carrot is the largest single ingredient at 40 percent, which makes Carrot Cat the pouch in the range that gets a vegetable into a puree a baby will actually accept. The three fruits behind it are there to carry the carrot rather than to hide it, and between them they take 60 percent of the pouch.

Carrot is also the easiest vegetable to start with. It is naturally sweet, it purees to a smooth texture without anything added, and it is one of the two or three vegetables that appear at the top of almost every weaning list. Putting it alongside mango, banana and pear means the pouch tastes like fruit with a vegetable in it, which is a more reliable way to introduce a vegetable than offering carrot on its own and hoping.

Mango is the ingredient to check before you buy. It is not usually among the first foods a baby meets, and at 20 percent it is a real part of this pouch rather than a trace. If mango is new, it is worth meeting it on its own first, a few days apart from anything else new, so that you know which food you are looking at if something disagrees.

The Demeter mark is held in addition to organic certification, not instead of it. EU Organic is the standard every organic baby food in Europe must meet; Demeter certifies biodynamic farming on top of it. Here the carrot, mango, banana and pear are all declared as biodynamic, with only the lemon juice concentrate organic. As a European baby food pouch this is a snack or a side rather than a meal, and the cap reseals for the fridge.

Where it fits

Why a vegetable-led pouch is worth having

Weaning has a well-known drift: fruit is accepted easily, vegetables are not, and the easy option quietly becomes the whole diet. A pouch that is 40 percent carrot is one way of keeping a vegetable in the rotation on the days when a spoonful of plain vegetable puree is going to be refused.

Holle's own framing for this pouch is about building a liking for vegetables from the start of weaning, and that is the honest use for it. It is not a substitute for offering carrot, parsnip or squash on their own, because part of what a baby is learning at six months is what a vegetable tastes like unaccompanied. It is the thing you reach for alongside that, not instead of it.

On texture it is smooth, with no pieces, so it suits a baby still learning to move food around their mouth. As your baby moves on to lumpier food the pouch becomes the convenient option rather than the main one: the snack, the thing in the changing bag, the vegetable that gets eaten in a cafe.

If mango is new

Introduce it on its own first. At 20 percent, mango is a fifth of this pouch, and meeting three new things at once is the opposite of how foods are usually introduced. For a vegetable pouch without mango in it, Holle Fennel Frog is pear, apple and fennel, also from 6 months. Check the panel on whichever pouch you buy.

Serving it

How to serve Carrot Cat

Read this before the first pouch

Feed the puree with a spoon and do not let your child suck on the pouch continuously, which is linked to tooth decay. Keep the screw cap out of reach of children, because a small cap is a choking hazard. Serve food fresh and do not heat the puree in a microwave. Once opened, the pouch can be stored in the fridge for 2 days.

1

Check the pouch first

Look it over before opening. It should be sealed and flat rather than swollen, with no leaks, and the screw cap should still be firmly in place.

2

Warm it only in water

Most babies take it cool or at room temperature. If you want it warmer, stand the closed pouch in hot water at no more than 50 degrees Celsius. Never use a microwave.

3

Unscrew the cap and put it away

Take the cap off and move it out of reach before anything else. A screw cap left within reach is the sort of small object a baby goes for first.

4

Squeeze a little onto a spoon

Squeeze some onto a spoon or into a small bowl. Carrot puree is one of the better stainers, so a bib is a sensible precaution.

5

Feed at your baby's pace

Offer a spoonful and wait for the next one to be wanted. A smooth puree disappears fast if nobody is setting the pace.

6

Reseal and refrigerate the rest

Screw the cap back on, put the pouch in the fridge and use it within 2 days. Feed from a spoon rather than returning a used spoon to the pouch.

Feed with a spoon and keep the cap out of reach. Continuous sucking from the pouch is linked to tooth decay. The screw cap is small enough to be a choking hazard. Do not heat the puree in a microwave, and use an opened pouch within 2 days from the fridge.
What is in the pouch

What each ingredient is doing

One vegetable, three fruits and a drop of lemon juice. The percentages are even enough that each one is doing real work.

Ingredient Share What it brings Farming
Carrot 40% The vegetable, and a mild natural sweetness Biodynamic
Mango 20% A deeper, slightly scented fruit note Biodynamic
Banana 20% Body, and most of the sweetness Biodynamic
Pear 20% Lightens the texture, the mildest of the four Biodynamic
Lemon juice concentrate trace Keeps the colour from browning Organic

Percentages and the farming designations are reproduced from the ingredient declaration printed on this pouch. One European retailer's page for this product omits the pear entirely; the declaration carried by the pouch sold here includes it at 20 percent, and the pouch in your hand governs.

Ingredients and allergens

What is in it

No added sugar, and that needs a footnote

No sugar is added to this pouch. Carrot and fruit both contain sugar of their own, so the puree is sweet and the panel on the pack shows sugars. Those sugars come from the carrot, mango, banana and pear, not from anything put in.

ALLERGY ADVICE: for the EU 14 major food allergens, including cereals containing gluten, see ingredients in CAPITAL LETTERS (if any). No ingredient in this list is capitalised, so no EU major allergen is declared for this pouch. It is gluten-free and lactose-free.

Reproduced word for word from the ingredient and allergy declaration printed on this pouch. No per-100-gram nutrition panel is reproduced here, because the published figures for the Holle pouch range disagree between sources and we will not print a number we cannot stand behind. The panel on the pouch you receive is the one that governs.

Read plainly, that is carrot, three fruits and a drop of lemon juice concentrate. No water, no starch, no thickener, no added sugar, no added vitamin and no preservative appear in the list.

What one 100 g pouch gives you

This listing is one 100 g pouch with a resealable screw cap. Holle states the packaging is 100 percent BPA-free and the cap is recyclable.

What you are buying Amount Notes
Net contents 100 g One resealable pouch
Vegetable content 40% Carrot
Fruit content 60% Mango, banana, pear
Once opened 2 days Refrigerated, cap resealed

We do not give a figure for how many pouches a baby gets through in a month. Holle publishes no feeding quantity for the pouches and no recommended number per day or per week, and the honest answer depends on how much milk and how much family food a particular baby is taking. Treat a pouch as a snack and let the rest of the diet set the number.

The 100 g net weight is the figure published for this pouch by its European retailers, who agree on it. No number of pouches per day, per week or per month is stated, because no such guidance is published for this product.

Questions parents ask

Frequently asked questions

From what age can my baby have Carrot Cat?

From 6 months, which is the age on this product, as part of a mixed weaning diet. If mango is new to your baby, meet it on its own first.

What is in it?

Carrot 40 percent, mango 20 percent, banana 20 percent, pear 20 percent and a trace of lemon juice concentrate. The carrot and the three fruits are biodynamic, the lemon juice concentrate is organic.

Is this a vegetable pouch or a fruit pouch?

Both, with the vegetable in front. Carrot is the single largest ingredient at 40 percent, and the three fruits together make up the other 60 percent.

Is there any added sugar?

No sugar is added. Carrot and fruit both contain sugar naturally, so the panel on the pack shows sugars, but none of it has been put in.

Is it gluten-free?

Yes. There is no cereal in this pouch and it is gluten-free and lactose-free. Some other Holle pouches do contain oats or spelt, so check the one you are buying.

Is it vegan?

Yes. There is no milk, egg or other animal ingredient in the list. Holle's yogurt pouches are a separate line and those are not vegan.

Will it replace offering carrot on its own?

No, and it is not meant to. Part of what a baby learns at six months is what a vegetable tastes like unaccompanied. This pouch is a useful addition to that, not a replacement for it.

Can my baby eat straight from the pouch?

Holle's instruction is to feed the puree with a spoon and not to let a child suck on the pouch continuously, because that is linked to tooth decay.

How long does an opened pouch keep?

Screw the cap back on and keep it in the fridge for up to 2 days. Serve the food fresh and do not heat the puree in a microwave.

The rest of the Holle pouch range

Written from the ingredient and allergy declaration printed on this pouch, together with the certification and feeding information published for it. The age and the pack size shown on this page are taken from the product itself. A European retailer's page for this product omits the pear from the ingredient list; the declaration carried by the pouch sold here was followed instead. No per-100-gram nutrition panel is reproduced, because the published figures for the Holle pouch range disagree between sources. No feeding quantity, daily portion or monthly consumption figure is stated, because Holle publishes none for the pouches. Last reviewed 15 October 2026.
