Breast milk is best for babies. These are stock-planning estimates, not feeding advice. Every baby is different — always follow the feeding table on the box and your paediatrician's guidance on how much your baby should actually take.

Ranges assume the standard one-scoop-per-30ml preparation. Real usage shifts with growth spurts, starting solids, and how much formula ends up on the floor.

What is HiPP 3 Junior Combiotic?

HiPP 3 Junior Combiotic is a German toddler milk for children from 12 months, made from skimmed milk with lactose as its carbohydrate and fortified with calcium, iron and vitamin D. It carries the Combiotik pairing of GOS prebiotic fibre with a live lactic acid culture. One 500 g box makes roughly 150 fl oz of prepared milk, about 30 cups of 5 oz.

This is a growing-up milk, not an infant formula. At twelve months a child eats family food, so this is not a meal — it is a fortified drink covering the nutrients toddler diets most often run short on. One 100 ml serving supplies 46% of a toddler's daily reference intake for vitamin D and 15% for calcium.

It is the smaller box in HiPP's German toddler range. HiPP Kindermilch 1+ covers the same age in a 600 g box, gives nearly twice the prepared milk and uses the bioactive Metafolin folate where this box uses plain folic acid. This one also mixes differently — two level scoops per 90 ml rather than three per 135 ml — so read the box rather than assuming they are interchangeable.

Is HiPP 3 Junior Combiotic organic?

No. HiPP 3 Junior Combiotic does not carry organic or Bio certification, and it does not hold the EU organic mark.

An earlier version of this page put it inside HiPP's organic range and then noted that we had not been able to re-confirm the certification. That hedge is now resolved: there is no organic certification on this box, and the page no longer suggests there might be.

If organic certification is what decides it for you at this age, buy Holle Stage 4 instead — it carries EU Organic certification, and we stock it. What this box genuinely offers is the Combiotik prebiotic and live culture in a smaller, cheaper pack for trying the range.

All three are German HiPP toddler milks and none carries organic certification. 3 Junior is the smallest box and the cheapest single purchase; the two Kindermilch boxes give roughly twice as much prepared milk each and use the bioactive Metafolin folate rather than plain folic acid.

Being straight with you: the nutrition here is close to Kindermilch 1+ at the same age, but you get roughly half the prepared milk per box and plain folic acid instead of Metafolin. If you are buying for the long run, work out the price per prepared ounce before choosing — the smaller box is usually the more expensive way to buy the same drink. And if organic is the priority, none of these three qualifies; Holle Stage 4 is EU Organic certified.

How do you prepare HiPP 3 Junior Combiotic?

Boil fresh water and let it cool to about 45°C (113°F), pour the measured water into a clean cup first, add two level scoops of powder for every 90 ml of water, stir until no powder is left on the sides, and check the temperature before serving. Make every drink fresh.

This box uses a larger 5.7 g scoop and a different ratio from the Kindermilch boxes — two scoops per 90 ml, not three per 135 ml. Use only the scoop supplied in this box and level it rather than heaping it. Never use artificially softened water or water boiled more than once, never reheat, and never microwave. Reseal the box after opening, keep it dry at room temperature, and use it within three weeks.

Please read before buying

HiPP 3 Junior Combiotic contains cow's milk protein and lactose, and its DHA comes from fish oil. It is not suitable for a child with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy or a fish allergy. It is gluten-free. It is a drink for a child over twelve months who is already eating family food — it is not an infant formula and must never be used as one. Talk to your doctor or health visitor if you are unsure whether your child needs a toddler milk at all.

Is HiPP 3 Junior Combiotic organic?

No. It carries no organic or Bio certification. An earlier version of this page placed it in HiPP's organic range while noting we could not re-confirm the certification; that is now settled, and the claim has been removed. For a certified organic toddler milk we stock Holle Stage 4, which carries EU Organic certification.

What age is HiPP 3 Junior Combiotic for?

From 12 months, as a cup drink alongside family meals. It is a toddler milk rather than an infant formula, so it must not be given to a baby under twelve months or used as a sole source of nutrition.

How does it compare with HiPP Kindermilch 1+ at the same age?

The nutrition is close — both are 54 kcal per 100 ml with the same calcium and iron. Two things differ. Kindermilch 1+ comes in a 600 g box that makes about 280 fl oz against this box's 150 fl oz, and 1+ uses calcium L-methylfolate (Metafolin) where this box uses plain folic acid. On price per prepared ounce the 600 g box is usually the better buy.

Is toddler milk better than cow's milk for a one-year-old?

Not automatically. A one-year-old eating a varied diet can do well on whole cow's milk. Toddler milks exist because toddler diets commonly fall short on iron and vitamin D — this one gives 1.2 mg iron and 2.3 µg vitamin D per 100 ml, where cow's milk gives almost no iron. If your child eats reliably, cow's milk and a varied plate may be all you need, and it is cheaper.

How much prepared milk does one 500 g box make?

About 150 fl oz, roughly 30 cups of 5 oz, at two level 5.7 g scoops per 90 ml of water. That is around half what a 600 g Kindermilch box makes, because this box is both smaller and mixed at a different ratio.

Does HiPP 3 Junior Combiotic contain a probiotic?

Yes. It carries a live Limosilactobacillus fermentum culture (CECT5716) alongside GOS prebiotic fibre made from the formula's own lactose — the pairing HiPP calls Combiotik. Many brands drop live cultures from their toddler milks entirely, so keeping it at this stage is a real difference.

Does it mix the same way as HiPP Kindermilch 1+?

No, and this catches people out. 3 Junior uses two level 5.7 g scoops per 90 ml of water; Kindermilch 1+ uses three level 3.6 g scoops per 135 ml. Always use the scoop that came in the box you are holding, and follow that box's ratio.

Is it gluten-free, and what are the allergens?

It is gluten-free. It contains milk and milk products including lactose, and fish, because the DHA comes from fish oil. Those are the two allergens to watch. The full ingredient list is in the panel above.

Can I still breastfeed while giving HiPP 3 Junior Combiotic?

Yes. Breastfeeding alongside family food and a toddler drink is entirely compatible, and there is no reason to stop because you have started offering a growing-up milk. Breast milk remains valuable well past the first year.
