How many cans will my baby need?
Running out mid-week means a late-night store run, or switching formula on your baby. Work out how much to keep on hand.

- Daily feed volume —
- Total prepared formula —
- Yield per 800g can ≈256 fl oz
Breast milk is best for babies. These are stock-planning estimates, not feeding advice. Every baby is different — always follow the feeding table on the can and your paediatrician's guidance on how much your baby should actually take.
Ranges assume the standard one-scoop-per-30ml preparation. Real usage shifts with growth spurts, starting solids, and how much formula ends up on the floor.
What is HiPP Dutch Stage 4 Junior?
HiPP Dutch Stage 4 Junior is a Dutch toddler milk for children from 24 months, made from skimmed cow's milk with lactose as its only carbohydrate, no added starch, and the Combiotik pairing of GOS prebiotic fibre with a live lactic acid culture. One 800 g can makes roughly 256 fl oz of prepared milk, about 50 cups of 5 oz.
This is the last step in HiPP's Dutch range, after Stage 3. By two years old a child is eating family food, so a growing-up milk is no longer a meal — it is a fortified drink that covers the nutrients toddler diets most often run short on: iron, vitamin D and calcium. Two cups a day is the usual guide.
What makes the Dutch line worth choosing over the German Kindermilch boxes is the carbohydrate. This one is lactose only and starch free — the sweetness is the milk's own. It also keeps the live culture all the way to Stage 4, which many brands drop from their toddler milks entirely.
Is HiPP Dutch Stage 4 Junior organic?
No. HiPP Dutch Stage 4 Junior does not carry organic or Bio certification.
We are correcting this on our own page. An earlier version of this listing stated that Stage 4 was EU Organic certified, and went as far as contrasting that against another retailer. That was wrong, and we would rather say so plainly than quietly delete it.
If organic certification is what you are buying on at this age, Holle Stage 4 carries EU Organic certification and we stock it. Buy theirs if that is your deciding factor. What this can genuinely offers is the lactose-only, starch-free carbohydrate base and the live culture — neither of which depends on a certification.

HiPP Dutch Stage 4 compared with the German toddler boxes
All three are HiPP toddler milks and none of them carries organic certification. Dutch Stage 4 is the only one that is starch free with lactose as its sole carbohydrate, and it is the largest pack of the three.

Being straight with you: if organic matters to you, none of these three is the answer — Holle Stage 4 is EU Organic certified, and we sell it. Choose this can for the starch-free lactose base and the larger pack. Compare on price per prepared ounce rather than price per pack, since the three pack sizes differ.
How do you prepare HiPP Dutch Stage 4 Junior?
Boil fresh water and let it cool to 40–50°C (104–122°F), pour the measured water into a clean cup or bottle first, add one level scoop of powder for every 30 ml of water, stir or shake until no powder is left on the sides, then check the temperature before giving it to your child. Make each drink fresh and discard anything left an hour after drinking starts.
Please read before buying
HiPP Dutch Stage 4 Junior contains cow's milk protein, lactose and fish oil. It is not suitable for a child with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy or a fish allergy. It is a drink for a child over two who is already eating family food — it is not an infant formula and must never be given as one. Talk to your doctor or health visitor if you are unsure whether your child needs a growing-up milk at all.
HiPP Dutch Stage 4 Junior: frequently asked questions
What age is HiPP Dutch Stage 4 for?
From 24 months. It is the fourth and final step in HiPP's Dutch range, meant for a child who is already eating family meals and drinking from a cup. There is no obligation to move up on a birthday — if your child is doing well on Stage 3, there is no harm in finishing the can first.
Is HiPP Dutch Stage 4 organic?
No. It does not carry organic or Bio certification. An earlier version of this page said it did, which was incorrect and has been removed. If you want a certified organic toddler milk we stock Holle Stage 4, which carries EU Organic certification.
How much prepared milk does one can make?
About 256 fl oz, roughly 50 cups of 5 oz, from one 800 g can at one level 3.6 g scoop per 30 ml of water. At the usual two cups a day that is around three to four weeks per can.
Does my toddler actually need a growing-up milk?
Not necessarily. A two-year-old eating a varied diet can do perfectly well on whole cow's milk. Growing-up milks exist because toddler diets commonly fall short on iron and vitamin D, and this one supplies 1.2 mg iron and 2.9 µg vitamin D per 100 ml where plain cow's milk supplies almost no iron. If your child is a reliable eater, cow's milk and a varied plate may be all you need — and it is cheaper.
Can I move straight from HiPP Dutch Stage 3 to Stage 4?
Yes. They are from the same line and the same Combiotik system, so there is no transition period needed. Some parents mix the two for a few days out of habit rather than necessity.
Does it contain palm oil or fish?
Both. The vegetable oil blend includes palm oil alongside rapeseed and sunflower, and the DHA comes from fish oil rather than algae. That means it is not suitable for a child with a fish allergy, and it is not a vegetarian product.
What is the Combiotik system, and does it matter at this age?
Combiotik is HiPP's name for combining a prebiotic with a probiotic — GOS fibre made from the formula's own lactose, plus a live Limosilactobacillus fermentum culture. It matters less at two than it does in infancy, when gut development is the whole point. It is worth knowing that many brands drop live cultures from their toddler milks entirely, so keeping it to Stage 4 is a real difference rather than a marketing one.
Is this the Dutch version or the German version?
Dutch. It is an 800 g can, starch free, with lactose as its only carbohydrate. The German toddler boxes — HiPP Kindermilch 1+ and 2+, and HiPP 3 Junior — are different products in 500 g and 600 g boxes with their own recipes.
