What is HiPP UK Stage 3 Organic Growing Up Milk?
HiPP Stage 3 is a British organic growing up milk for toddlers from 12 months onwards, made from organic skimmed milk and organic lactose, with an organic GOS prebiotic, DHA, iron and vitamin D. One can is 800 g — about 200 fl oz of prepared milk, roughly 200 servings of one ounce.
This is not an infant formula and it is not meant to replace meals. HiPP's own guidance is about 350 ml a day, given as a drink, poured on cereal or stirred into food, alongside a varied diet of solids. At twelve months the question most parents are really asking is whether to move to plain cow's milk — a growing up milk exists because iron, vitamin D and omega-3 intake commonly dip at exactly this age.
The thing worth knowing about this particular can is its carbohydrate. HiPP's UK Stage 3 is built on organic lactose and GOS, with no starch, no maltodextrin and no added sugar. That is a real difference from HiPP's own German Stage 3, which contains organic starch — and it is the clearest reason to choose the UK version over the German one.
Two things we will not dress up. It contains organic palm oil, and its DHA comes from fish oil rather than algae, so it is not vegetarian and it carries a fish allergen.
What's in HiPP UK Stage 3 per 100ml?

What is not in HiPP UK Stage 3?
There is no maltodextrin, no starch and no added sugar — the carbohydrate is organic lactose plus the GOS prebiotic made from it. Being straight about the rest: this can contains organic palm oil, and its DHA comes from fish oil.

One claim you will see elsewhere that we will not make
Some shops list this can as "Combiotik", the name HiPP uses in Germany for pairing a prebiotic with a live probiotic culture. HiPP's own published UK ingredient list contains no lactic acid culture, and we could not find one on any UK panel. So this listing claims a GOS prebiotic only. If a live culture is what you are after, HiPP's German range has it — we sell that too.
How does HiPP UK Stage 3 compare to HiPP German Stage 3 and Kendamil Stage 3?
HiPP UK Stage 3 is the only one of the three with no starch and no maltodextrin at this stage. HiPP German Stage 3 is the only one with a live probiotic culture, and it starts two months earlier. Kendamil Stage 3 is the only one with a whole-milk base, no palm oil and algae-sourced DHA.

Being straight with you: if your toddler is already thriving on HiPP German Stage 3, the live culture is a real reason to stay there, and it suits a ten-month-old where this one does not. Kendamil Stage 3 beats both on the three things parents ask about most: a whole-milk base, no palm oil, and algae DHA instead of fish. We stock all three, and if any of those is your deal-breaker you should buy that one. HiPP UK Stage 3's case is the cleanest carbohydrate of the three and the largest can. One more thing: these are 800 g, 600 g and 800 g packs, so compare on price per prepared ounce rather than price per can.
How many cans of HiPP UK Stage 3 will my toddler need per month?
One 800 g can makes about 200 fl oz of prepared milk. At HiPP's own guidance of roughly 350 ml a day that works out at about 2 cans a month, and typical real-world toddler use runs nearer 2½. Where your toddler lands depends almost entirely on how much solid food they are eating.
This is the stage where usage falls rather than climbs. A growing up milk sits alongside three meals a day, so a toddler who eats well will get through noticeably less than one still taking most of their intake as milk.

How do you prepare HiPP UK Stage 3 Growing Up Milk?
Sterilise the bottle or beaker, boil fresh water and let it cool, pour the measured water in first, then add one level scoop of powder for every 1 fl oz (30 ml) of water, shake until fully dissolved, cool to feeding temperature and test a drop on your wrist. Discard anything left over rather than saving it.
Clean everything
Wash your hands, then sterilise the bottle or beaker, teat, cap and ring before use.
Boil and cool the water
Boil fresh drinking water and let it cool before you use it. Never use artificially softened water, or water boiled more than once.
Water first
Pour the measured water in before you add any powder — never the other way round, or the concentration will be wrong.
Add level scoops
One level scoop for every 1 fl oz (30 ml) of water, using the scoop supplied and levelling it against the edge of the can. Never heap a scoop.
Cap and shake
Close and shake until no powder is left clinging to the sides.
Cool, test, serve
Cool to feeding temperature, test a drop on the inside of your wrist, and discard anything left rather than keeping it for later.

HiPP UK Stage 3 contains cow's milk protein, lactose and fish oil. It is not suitable for a toddler with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy or a fish allergy, and it is not a hypoallergenic formula. It is intended for children over twelve months as part of a varied diet.

HiPP UK Stage 3: frequently asked questions
What age is HiPP UK Stage 3 for?
Twelve months and over. HiPP calls it a growing up milk rather than a follow-on formula, and it is designed to sit alongside a varied diet of solid food rather than to be a toddler's main source of nutrition.
Does HiPP UK Stage 3 contain probiotics?
No. It contains an organic GOS prebiotic — fibre that feeds the bacteria already in the gut — but HiPP's published UK ingredient list contains no live lactic acid culture. Some retailers still label it "Combiotik", which is HiPP's German name for combining a prebiotic with a live culture. If you specifically want the culture, the German HiPP range has it.
Is HiPP UK Stage 3 the same as HiPP German Stage 3?
No, and the differences are worth knowing. The UK can starts at twelve months and the German box at ten. The UK version has no starch — its carbohydrate is lactose and GOS — while the German version contains organic starch. The German version has a live probiotic culture and the UK version does not. The UK can is 800 g; the German box is 600 g.
Does it contain starch or maltodextrin?
Neither. The carbohydrate is organic lactose together with the organic GOS made from it, and there is no added sugar. That is the clearest single reason to choose this over HiPP's German Stage 3.
Is it vegetarian?
No. The DHA comes from fish oil, so the can carries a fish allergen declaration. If you need a vegetarian toddler milk, Kendamil's algae-sourced DHA is the one to look at.
Do I need a growing up milk, or can we just move to cow's milk?
Plenty of toddlers go straight to cow's milk and do well. The argument for a growing up milk is that it is fortified with iron, vitamin D and DHA at an age when intake of all three commonly dips, and it is lower in protein than whole cow's milk. It is a reasonable option rather than a necessity — your health visitor or doctor is the right person to settle it.
How much should my toddler have a day?
HiPP's own guidance is about 350 ml a day, which can be given as a drink, poured over cereal or stirred into food. That works out at roughly two to two and a half 800 g cans a month, depending on how much solid food your toddler is eating.
How long does a can last once it is open?
Three weeks. Store it in a cool, dry place and do not put the powder in the fridge — refrigeration introduces moisture and the powder clumps.
