What it is

HiPP BabySoft Gentle Wet Wipes for Face and Hands, 20 wipes, from the first day of life

HiPP BabySoft Gentle Wet Wipes for Face and Hands are baby wipes made for the two places a wipe gets used most, suitable from the first day of life. This is the small 20 wipe pack, soaked in a mild lotion on a fine-fiber cloth, with a resealable closure. HiPP makes them without parabens, paraffins, mineral oils or artificial fragrances.

A face-and-hands wipe is a different thing from a diapering wipe, and the difference is the lotion. A wipe used around the mouth will end up in the mouth, and a wipe used on hands goes straight to whatever a baby picks up next. So the lotion on these is kept deliberately short: five entries, no fragrance listed, and nothing on the panel doing anything beyond lifting dirt and keeping the pack stable.

The cloth is the other half of it. HiPP describes fine fibers giving a particular softness, which is what you want on a face rather than the thicker, more textured cloth that suits a bottom. For a newborn baby wipe on cheeks and eyelids and the folds under the chin, softness matters more than scrubbing power.

The 20 wipe count is the point of this pack rather than a limitation. It is the size that goes in a coat pocket or the side of a diaper bag without taking the space a 48 or 72 pack takes, which makes it the travel pack you carry in addition to the big pack at home. The closure reseals so the last wipe is as wet as the first.

What HiPP leaves out is part of the specification: no parabens, no paraffins, no mineral oils and no artificial fragrances. As a German baby care product it is the plainest item in the HiPP wipe range, built to be unremarkable in the best sense.

Whose skin it suits

Whose skin this pack is for, and what it is not for

HiPP dates these from the first day of life, so they are built for the youngest skin in the house. The age range is the useful part: the same pack suits a newborn's face after a feed, a one-year-old's hands before lunch, and a toddler who has found something sticky. Nothing changes as your baby grows.

They are made for face and hands, which is the use HiPP gives them. That is worth taking literally rather than as a suggestion. A face-and-hands wipe carries a lighter lotion than a diapering wipe, so using this pack for a diaper change works but spends a small pack quickly; using a diapering wipe on a face is the swap that is better avoided. If you want wipes for changes, that is a different pack in the range.

Because the lotion is short, there is less on it to react to, but less is not none. Stop using them if the skin becomes red or irritated and speak to your doctor or pharmacist if that does not settle. Read the panel on the pack you receive before first use, as you would with any product going on a newborn's face.

If you need wipes for diaper changes instead

This pack is the face-and-hands one. For changes, and for the volume that changes need, HiPP Gentle Care Wet Wipes and HiPP Ultra Sensitive Wet Wipes, 5 x 48 are the larger packs. Each is a separate HiPP product with its own lotion panel, so check the one printed on the pack you buy.

Using it

How to use them

Read this before the first use

For external use only. Keep the pack out of the reach of children: a wet wipe is a choking and suffocation risk for a baby who gets hold of one. Do not use them in or near the eyes. Stop using them if the skin becomes red or irritated, and speak to your doctor or pharmacist if that does not settle. Do not flush the wipes.

HiPP publishes the use for this product — face and hands, external use only — but no frequency, technique or quantity. The steps below are general practice for using a baby wipe rather than manufacturer instructions. Follow whatever is printed on the pack you receive.

1

Open from the corner, not the middle

The closure is designed to lift from one corner and press back down. Opening it cleanly is what keeps the remaining wipes wet, and a pack of 20 dries out faster than a big one if the seal is broken.

2

Take one wipe at a time

Pull a single wipe clear before you need it rather than fishing in the pack with one hand while holding a baby with the other. A wipe left half out of the pack dries at the edge.

3

Face first, working outward

Wipe outward from the middle of the face and around rather than across the eyes. Go gently: the point of the fine-fiber cloth is that it does not need pressure to lift milk or puree.

4

Mind the creases

Under the chin, the neck folds and behind the ears are where milk collects and stays. Those are the places a face wipe earns its keep, and they want a gentle pass rather than a scrub.

5

Hands, including between the fingers

Open the hand out and go between the fingers and around the thumb. Hands are the reason to carry a pack this size, because they need wiping at times and places where a sink is not available.

6

Reseal, and keep the pack closed

Press the closure flat after every use and store the pack away from heat and direct sunlight. Keep it out of reach, and put used wipes in a bin rather than down a toilet.

Keep out of the reach of children. For external use only. A loose wet wipe is a choking and suffocation risk, so store the pack closed and out of reach, and do not leave wipes in a crib or stroller. Avoid the eyes. Do not flush. Discontinue use if the skin reacts, and check the panel on your pack before first use.
What is in it

What is on the wipes

The lotion panel for this pack is below. It is short enough to read in one go, which on a product used around a baby's mouth is the most useful thing about it.

Five entries, and no fragrance among them

HiPP states these wipes are made without artificial fragrances, and the panel as carried on this listing lists no Parfum entry at all. HiPP does not market them with a fragrance-free claim, so that is not a claim we make either, but the panel is what it is: water, one mild cleanser, two entries adjusting acidity and one preservative.

On the label

Ingredients and more

Aqua, Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Sodium Benzoate.

Allergens: no fragrance allergen, nut-derived ingredient or other allergen appears on this panel. A cosmetic carries no statutory allergen declaration, so this is a read-the-label note and not a declaration. Names are given in INCI form, as printed.

This panel is the one carried on this listing for this pack, and HiPP's own German product page for this item could not be retrieved while this page was written, so it has not been re-checked against the manufacturer's current published list. The panel printed on the pack you receive is the one that governs, and cosmetic formulations are revised from time to time. The panel describes the lotion only, not the cloth.

What the five entries are doing

On the panel What it is
Aqua Water, almost all of the lotion
Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside A mild sugar-based cleanser, the only cleansing agent on the panel
Citric Acid Adjusts the acidity of the lotion
Sodium Citrate Holds that acidity steady, so the lotion stays where it is set
Sodium Benzoate The preservative, which a wet product in an opened pack needs

This is the complete panel rather than a selection from it, so the table above covers every entry. The panel printed on the pack you receive is the one that governs.

What is left out

What HiPP leaves out of them

On a wipe used around a baby's mouth the exclusions are usually the reason for buying, so they are set out here with the qualifier that belongs to each one rather than as a row of badges.

  • No parabens
  • No paraffins
  • No mineral oils
  • No artificial fragrances
  • Soaked in a mild lotion
  • Fine-fiber cloth
  • Resealable closure
  • Five-entry lotion panel

These are HiPP's own statements for this product, as carried on this listing, except the five-entry panel count and the absence of a Parfum entry, which are read directly off the panel above.

What is not claimed for this product

No fragrance-free, organic, certified-organic, biodegradable, flushable, alcohol-free, vegan or dermatologically-tested claim is made for these wipes, and none should be read into it. HiPP makes no claim about any skin condition for them, and neither do we.

An earlier version of this listing stated the wipes were suitable for caring for skin prone to neurodermatitis. Wording of that kind is not used on this store for any product, so the statement has been removed rather than carried forward. If your baby's skin needs managing rather than cleaning, that is a conversation for your doctor rather than a wipe.

Pack size

What you get, and where a 20 wipe pack fits

This listing is one pack of 20 wipes. No number of days or changes is given here, because how fast a pack of face-and-hands wipes empties depends entirely on how many meals happen away from a sink, and HiPP publishes no usage rate for it.

What is worth setting out is where this size sits against the rest of the HiPP wipe range, because the 20 pack is usually bought alongside a larger one rather than instead of it.

HiPP wipes Count What they are for
This pack, Face and Hands 20 Face and hands, pocket size
Gentle Care Wet Wipes Separate product The general-purpose pack, including changes
Ultra Sensitive Wet Wipes 5 x 48, 240 total The bulk pack for home

These are separate HiPP products with separate lotion panels, listed here by count and purpose only. No equivalence between their lotions is implied. No number of uses per pack is claimed, because no usage rate is published for this product.

Questions parents ask

Frequently asked questions

From what age can I use them?

From the first day of life, which is the age HiPP gives for this product. There is no separate newborn version to start on first.

Can I use them on my baby's face?

Yes. Face and hands is what they are made for, which is why the lotion is short and the cloth is a fine-fiber one. Wipe outward and around rather than across the eyes.

Can I use them for diaper changes?

You can, but a pack of 20 will not last long if you do. HiPP makes larger packs for general use and for changes, and those are the sensible ones for volume.

Are they fragranced?

HiPP states they are made without artificial fragrances, and the panel carried for them lists no Parfum entry. HiPP does not sell them with a fragrance-free claim, so we do not make one either; read the panel on your pack.

What is actually in the lotion?

Five things: water, one mild sugar-based cleanser, citric acid and sodium citrate to set and hold the acidity, and sodium benzoate as the preservative. The full panel is on this page.

Are they flushable?

No flushable claim is made for them, so put used wipes in a bin rather than down a toilet.

How many wipes are in a pack?

20. This is the small resealable pack, the one meant to travel rather than to sit on a changing table.

Are they the same as the HiPP Ultra Sensitive wipes?

No. They are different HiPP products with different lotion panels and different purposes. This listing is the 20 wipe face-and-hands pack.

Explore the range

The rest of the HiPP wipe and skin care range

Written from the lotion panel, product features, warnings and stated use carried on this listing for HiPP BabySoft Gentle Wet Wipes for Face and Hands, 20 wipes, which are HiPP's own text for this pack. Only statements carried by that source are made. HiPP's own German product page for this item could not be retrieved while this page was written, so the panel has not been re-checked against the manufacturer's current published list; the panel on your pack governs. The from-birth age and the 20 wipe count are taken from the product itself. A statement that the wipes are suitable for caring for skin prone to neurodermatitis has been removed, because wording of that kind is not used on this store for any product. No usage rate, and therefore no uses-per-pack figure, is published for this product, so none is stated. Last reviewed 17 October 2026.
