HiPP Favourite Stars are an organic grain snack for children from 12 months, which HiPP describes as from 1 year, in a 30 g pack. They are small star shapes made from 89 percent organic cereals, colored only with organic juice concentrates of carrot, pumpkin, beet, apple and blackcurrant, with added vitamin B1. There is no added flavoring. A portion is about 15 stars, roughly 6 g, as part of a snack.
The interesting thing about this pack is how the color is done. The stars are red, and HiPP states they are sprayed only with natural organic juice colors: carrot, pumpkin and beet for the color itself, with apple and blackcurrant alongside. No added colorings and no added flavorings go in. A red snack food for a one-year-old with nothing synthetic doing the coloring is not a given, and it is the main reason to prefer this pack over a supermarket equivalent.
The grain content is high. 89 percent cereal flour, made up of wholegrain millet, wheat, corn, wholegrain spelt and wholegrain barley. Three of those five are wholegrain and three of them carry gluten, since spelt is itself a type of wheat. HiPP notes that on the pack, which is the sort of detail most labels leave you to work out.
The remaining 11 percent is the five juice concentrates and the vitamin. That makes this one of the shorter ingredient lists in a children's snack: five cereals, five juices, one vitamin. Nothing is added to sweeten it beyond what the apple and the other juices bring.
HiPP gives a specific daily portion, which is unusually precise for a snack: about 15 stars, approximately 6 g, ideally as part of a snack rather than as a meal. At 6 g a portion, a 30 g pack is about five portions, and knowing that changes how the pack gets used.
The shape is the other half of the design. A star is small, flat and easy for a one-year-old to pick up between finger and thumb, which is the grip a child has by 12 months. HiPP presents it as a snack for in-between and for little hands, and that is exactly what it is.

About 15Stars in a portion
Where it fits
Where a star snack fits in a child's day
Between meals, in a measured portion. HiPP is explicit that these are ideally part of a snack rather than a meal, and the 6 g portion backs that up: it is a small amount, designed to fill a gap rather than to take the place of lunch.
At 12 months a child is developing the pincer grip, picking up small objects between finger and thumb, and a flat star shape is well suited to practicing that. A snack that a child can manage without help is doing something beyond feeding them, which is part of why this format exists at all.
It travels, and that is most of its practical value. A 30 g pack of dry stars needs no spoon, no bowl and no preparation, it does not crush easily and it fits a pocket. That makes it the thing that lives in the bag for the journey home rather than the thing in the cupboard.
Keep it to the portion
HiPP sets the portion at about 15 stars, approximately 6 g, and a 30 g pack holds about five of those. A snack this easy to hand over is also easy to hand over repeatedly, so counting out a portion rather than offering the open pack is worth the small effort. Sit your child down for it, stay with them while they are eating, and see to regular dental care from the first tooth.
Serving
How to serve them
Nothing to prepare, and a portion HiPP sets precisely
The stars are ready to eat. HiPP's daily portion is about 15 stars, approximately 6 g, ideally as part of a snack. We have not been able to source a verified nutrition table or an after-opening storage window for this pack, so neither appears on this page. Keep the pack closed in a dry place at room temperature and follow the guidance printed on it.

1
Check the pack before opening
Look it over the first time. A dry grain snack that has softened has met moisture, and the firm texture is part of what makes it work.
2
Sit your child down
A small, dry snack should be eaten sitting up, not walking around or lying down. That holds for any finger food at this age.
3
Count out about 15 stars
Approximately 6 g, which is HiPP's own portion. Counting rather than pouring keeps it to a snack instead of a meal.
4
Stay with them
Supervise your child while they are eating. Small shapes are easy to manage at 12 months but a child still sets their own pace.
5
Close the pack
Close it after each use and keep it dry at room temperature. A dry cereal snack loses its texture as soon as it takes up moisture.
6
Mind the teeth
HiPP asks for regular dental care from the first tooth across its children's range. A snack eaten slowly is the pattern that guidance addresses.
Supervise, and keep it to a portion. Sit your child upright to eat a small dry snack, never lying down, and stay with them throughout. HiPP's portion is about 15 stars, approximately 6 g, as part of a snack rather than in place of a meal. Store the pack closed in a dry place at room temperature, and see to regular dental care from the first tooth. If you are unsure whether your child is ready for a snack of this kind, ask your pediatrician.
What is in a portion
What about 15 stars actually amounts to
HiPP gives both the pack size and the portion, so the arithmetic for this pack works out completely, which is rare. This is what that gives you.

About 75 stars in a pack, and about five portions. That is the kind of figure worth knowing before you open one, because it tells you a pack is a few days of snacks rather than a single sitting.
The 30 g pack size, the 15 star portion and the 6 g portion weight are HiPP's own figures for this product. The portions per pack, the star count and the cereal weight in a portion are those figures divided and multiplied, not separate measurements, and HiPP's own figures are approximate to begin with. We have not been able to source a verified nutrition table per 100 g for this pack, so none is printed.
Ingredients and allergens
What is in it
Contains gluten from wheat, spelt and barley
The cereal flour in this pack includes wheat, wholegrain spelt and wholegrain barley, all three of which carry gluten, and HiPP notes on the pack that spelt is a type of wheat. HiPP's own listing for this product flags gluten as an allergen. This product also states it may contain traces of milk and mustard. No gluten-free claim is made for it and none should be read into it.
The allergy note as it stands on this product: may contain traces of MILK, MUSTARD. HiPP's own published listing for this product flags milk including lactose, gluten and celery. The two lists differ; read the panel on the pack you have, because that is the declaration that governs, and treat either list as a reason to check rather than to assume.

* from organic production. ** Spelt is a type of wheat. Dinkel is the German word for spelt, and it appears that way on this pack. Reproduced from the ingredient declaration carried by this product. Always check the panel printed on the pack you have, because artwork is revised from time to time.
The five juice concentrates are what color the stars. HiPP states they are sprayed red only with natural organic juice colors from carrot, pumpkin and beet, together with apple and currants, and that no flavorings are added.
Vitamin B1, thiamine, is the nutrient European rules require a cereal product of this kind to carry. Nothing beyond that requirement is claimed for it here.
Read plainly, that is five cereals at 89 percent, five fruit and vegetable juice concentrates and one added vitamin. Eleven items, no added color, no added flavoring and nothing added to sweeten beyond the juices themselves.

How far a 30 g pack goes
Both figures are HiPP's own, so this divides cleanly. A 30 g pack at a 6 g portion is about five portions, and at about 15 stars a portion that is roughly 75 stars in a pack.

A dry snack has no fluid yield at all, so there is no ounce figure for this pack. Stars and portions are the measures that mean something, and both of them come from HiPP's own numbers.
HiPP gives both the portion and the star count as approximate, so the derived figures above are approximate too. Treat about five portions as a planning figure rather than a count.

Questions parents ask
Frequently asked questions
From what age can my child have them?
From 12 months, which is the age carried by this product, and HiPP describes them as from 1 year. HiPP's own listing for this product also places it at 12 months and upward.
What makes them red?
Juice, not color additives. HiPP states the stars are sprayed only with natural organic juice colors from carrot, pumpkin and beet, together with apple and currants. There is no added coloring and no added flavoring in the pack.
How many should I give?
HiPP's own portion is about 15 stars, approximately 6 g, ideally as part of a snack. A 30 g pack holds about five of those portions.
How many stars are in a pack?
About 75. That is five portions of about 15 stars, worked out from HiPP's own 30 g pack size and 6 g portion weight. Both of HiPP's figures are approximate, so treat the total the same way.
Are they gluten-free?
No. The cereal flour includes wheat, wholegrain spelt and wholegrain barley, all three of which carry gluten, and HiPP notes on the pack that spelt is a type of wheat. We make no gluten-free claim for them.
What allergens do they carry?
This product states it may contain traces of milk and mustard. HiPP's own published listing for the product flags milk including lactose, gluten and celery. The two differ, so read the panel on the pack you have and check it against whatever is being avoided in your household.
Do they contain added sugar?
No sugar is added. The sweetness comes from the five juice concentrates, led by apple. HiPP also states there is no added flavoring.
What is the vitamin B1 for?
Thiamine is the nutrient European rules require a cereal product of this kind to carry. Nothing beyond that requirement is claimed for it here.
How do I store them once opened?
Close the pack after each use and keep it in a dry place at room temperature. A dry cereal snack loses its texture as soon as it takes up moisture.
Written from the age, pack size, ingredient declaration, allergy note, portion guidance and product statements carried by this product, reproduced above as they stand: the 12 month age and the from-1-year wording, the 30 g pack, the 89 percent cereal flour with its five named cereals including the note that spelt is a type of wheat, the five juice concentrates, vitamin B1, the statement that the stars are sprayed red only with natural organic juice colors from carrot, pumpkin and beet with apple and currants and with no added flavors, the daily portion of about 15 stars at approximately 6 g as part of a snack, and the possible traces of milk and mustard. HiPP's own published listing for this product corroborates the 12 month age but gives a different allergen set, milk including lactose, gluten and celery; both lists are shown on the page and neither has been merged into the other or presented as the pack's own. The portions per pack, star count and cereal weight per portion are HiPP's stated figures divided and multiplied, and are marked approximate because HiPP's own figures are. The vitamin B1 statement is limited to the legal requirement for this type of product. No nutrition table per 100 g and no after-opening storage window could be sourced for this pack, so neither is printed. Last reviewed 24 October 2026.
