What is HiPP Stage 2 Bio Combiotik?
HiPP Stage 2 Bio Combiotik is a German organic follow-on formula for babies after the sixth month, made from organic skimmed milk with a live probiotic culture and GOS prebiotic fibre. One box is 600 g — about 153 fl oz of prepared formula, roughly 30 bottles of 5 oz.
This is the stage where the milk changes job. Your baby is starting solids, so the bottle stops being everything and becomes the reliable part of a day that now also includes purees and mess. HiPP's German label describes Stage 2 as sämig und besonders gut sättigend — creamier and especially filling — which is exactly what the added organic starch is there to do.
The Combiotik system carries through unchanged: GOS prebiotic fibre made from the formula's own lactose, paired with a live probiotic culture, Lactobacillus fermentum hereditum. On calcium this stage is genuinely strong — 77 mg per 100ml, well ahead of both the rivals we compare it against below.

What does Combiotik mean in HiPP Stage 2 Bio Combiotik?
Combiotik is HiPP's name for putting a prebiotic and a probiotic in the same box. The prebiotic is GOS — galacto-oligosaccharide fibre made from the formula's own lactose. The probiotic is Lactobacillus fermentum hereditum, a live lactic acid culture originally found in breast milk. The fibre is the food; the culture is the organism that feeds on it.
At the follow-on formula stage this is where the brands separate. Holle Stage 2 offers neither a prebiotic nor a live culture. Kendamil Organic Stage 2 offers GOS but no culture. HiPP is the one carrying both, and that — more than the organic logo all three share — is the honest reason to pick this box.
A word on what this does not mean. Prebiotic fibre and live cultures are not a treatment for colic, reflux or a diagnosed allergy, and no formula should be sold as one. If your baby has a medical feeding problem, ask your paediatrician about a hydrolysed or specialist formula instead.

What is not in HiPP Stage 2 Bio Combiotik?
HiPP Stage 2's ingredient list carries no maltodextrin, no corn syrup and no soy oil — the oils are palm, rapeseed and sunflower — and no sugar is added beyond the milk's own lactose. Being straight about the rest: Stage 2 does contain organic starch, which is what makes it thicker and more filling, along with palm oil from certified sustainable sources.

Being straight with you: Holle Stage 2 carries Demeter biodynamic certification, which HiPP does not, and a little more iron. Kendamil Organic Stage 2 has no palm oil, no starch, more DHA, and that DHA comes from algae rather than fish — if any of those matters to you, buy the Kendamil, and we will happily sell you one. Where this box genuinely leads is calcium and the Combiotik pairing of a live culture with GOS, which neither rival offers. How many boxes of formula will my baby need per month?
One 600 g box of HiPP Stage 2 makes about 153 fl oz of prepared formula, roughly 30 bottles of 5 oz. A typical formula-fed baby past six months gets through about 3 to 4 boxes a month, so a three-month supply is somewhere between 9 and 12 boxes.
Milk volumes at this stage depend heavily on how solids are going. Once three meals a day are properly established, most babies drift toward the lower end of that range. Until then, plan for the upper end — running out at 11pm is a worse problem than having one box too many in the cupboard.

How do you prepare HiPP Stage 2 Bio Combiotik?
Sterilise the bottle, boil fresh water and let it cool to 40–50°C (104–122°F), pour the measured water in first, then add one level scoop (about 4.5 g) for every 30ml of water, shake for about 15 seconds, cool to about 37°C (98.6°F), test a drop on your wrist, and discard anything left one hour after your baby starts drinking.

Sterilise everything
Wash your hands, then sterilise the bottle, teat, cap and ring before every single feed.

Boil and cool the water
Boil fresh drinking water, then let it cool to 40–50°C (104–122°F), the temperature HiPP's own label specifies.

Water into the bottle first
Pour the measured water into the sterilised bottle before you add any powder — never the other way round.

Add level scoops
Add one level scoop — about 4.5 g — for every 30ml of water, following the feeding chart on the box and levelling each scoop. Never heap them.

Close the bottle and shake for about 15 seconds, until no powder is left clinging to the sides.

Please read before buying
HiPP Stage 2 contains cow's milk protein, whey, lactose and fish oil. It is not suitable for babies with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy or a fish allergy, and it is not a hypoallergenic formula. Follow-on formula is only for babies over six months. Breastfeeding is best for your baby — talk to your health visitor or doctor before starting or changing a formula.
Store boxes in a cool, dry place. Once opened, use within about three weeks. Never reheat or microwave prepared formula.
Standard Stage 2, or starch-free?
The box on this page is the standard Stage 2, and its organic starch is what makes it thicker and more filling. HiPP also makes a version without it. If your baby does better on a thinner, lighter milk, try HiPP Stage 2 No Starch instead — same Combiotik system, same 600 g box.

What water temperature does HiPP Stage 2 need?

Why does HiPP Stage 2 contain starch?
Organic starch is there on purpose. It thickens the milk and slows digestion a little, which is what HiPP's German label means by sämig und besonders gut sättigend — creamier and especially filling. It is the standard design of follow-on formula across most of Europe rather than a shortcut. HiPP also sells a starch-free Stage 2 if you would rather avoid it.

Do I have to switch from Stage 1 at six months?
No. Stage 1 remains nutritionally suitable throughout the first year, and there is no harm in staying on it. Stage 2 is offered because a six-month-old has higher iron and calcium needs and often wants a more filling bottle. Many parents switch when solids start; others never do. Neither choice is wrong.
When do we move on from Stage 2?
HiPP Stage 3 is labelled from the tenth month, so that is the natural next step in the German line. By then your baby will be eating a far wider range of solid food and the bottle will be doing less of the work. After Stage 3 comes HiPP's Kindermilch toddler milk from the first birthday.
