What is HiPP Stage 2 No Starch formula?
HiPP Stage 2 No Starch is a German organic follow-on formula for babies from 6 to 12 months, made from organic skimmed cow's milk, with lactose as its only carbohydrate and no added starch. One 600g box makes about 153 fl oz of prepared formula — roughly 30 five-ounce bottles.
Almost every European follow-on formula at this stage adds starch, including HiPP's own standard Stage 2. Starch thickens the bottle and makes it more filling, which suits most babies well. This box takes the starch out completely and leaves lactose as the sole carbohydrate — the same approach HiPP uses in its PRE formula for newborns.
The difference is easy to see in the numbers. In the standard Stage 2, about 3 fl oz of prepared formula carries roughly 5.8g of lactose plus 1.2g of starch. In this starch-free Stage 2, the same 3 fl oz carries about 7g of lactose and no starch at all. Energy, calcium and iron are unchanged. It is a swap of carbohydrate source, not a different formula.
Parents usually come to this box for one reason: a baby who is bloated, constipated or plainly uncomfortable on the thickened standard version. If that is your baby, this is the gentler box in the same age band. Expect the prepared bottle to look noticeably runnier than what you are used to — that is the missing starch, not a mixing mistake.

Prepared as directed, every 100ml provides 68 kcal, 3.7g fat, 1.3g protein, 7.2g carbohydrate, 77mg calcium and 1.0mg iron. All of that carbohydrate is lactose — the starch content is 0g. The prebiotic is GOS, the DHA comes from fish oil, and the probiotic is the Limosilactobacillus fermentum hereditum culture HiPP uses across its Combiotik range.

Why does HiPP make a Stage 2 without starch?
Because starch is added for texture and staying power, not for nutrition — and a minority of babies do not handle it comfortably. Taking it out leaves lactose as the only carbohydrate, which is exactly what HiPP already does in its PRE formula for newborns.

What is not in HiPP Stage 2 No Starch?
No starch, no maltodextrin and no added sugars. Lactose is the only carbohydrate in the box. The formula is EU Organic certified, and the palm oil in the vegetable oil blend is certified sustainable and independently inspected. It is not Demeter or Bioland certified — HiPP holds EU Organic only.

How does HiPP Stage 2 No Starch compare to HiPP Stage 2 and Holle Bio Stage 2?
Against HiPP's own standard Stage 2, the only meaningful difference is the carbohydrate — lactose alone here, lactose plus starch there. Against Holle Bio Stage 2, the gap is wider: Holle carries Demeter biodynamic certification on top of EU Organic, a stricter farming standard than HiPP holds, but Holle has no probiotic culture and adds both starch and maltodextrin.

Being straight with you: if the farming standard behind the milk matters most to you, Holle Bio Stage 2 is the stricter box — it is Demeter biodynamic as well as EU Organic, which HiPP is not, and we stock it. And if your baby is happy on the standard HiPP Stage 2, there is no reason to switch. The thicker, more filling bottle is the whole point of that version. This box is only the better buy when starch is the thing causing trouble.
How many boxes of formula will my baby need per month?
A baby of 6 to 12 months who is exclusively formula fed typically gets through about 3 to 4 boxes of HiPP Stage 2 No Starch per month. One 600g box makes roughly 153 fl oz of prepared formula, which is about 30 five-ounce bottles.
Once solids are properly established, milk volumes usually drop and a box lasts longer. Appetite varies a great deal at this age, so plan at the top of the range for your first month on a new stage and adjust once you see how your baby feeds.

How do you prepare HiPP Stage 2 No Starch?
Boil fresh water and let it cool to about 40–50°C, pour the measured water into a sterilised bottle first, then add one level scoop (4.5g) for every 30ml of water, shake until fully dissolved, cool to body temperature and feed. Discard anything left one hour after your baby starts drinking.

Sterilise everything
Sterilise the bottle, teat, ring and cap, and wash your hands before you start.

Boil and cool
Boil fresh drinking water, then let it cool to roughly 40–50°C before you mix.

Water into the bottle first
Pour the measured water into the sterilised bottle before you add any powder — never the other way round.

Add level scoops
Add one level 4.5g scoop for every 30ml of water, levelling each scoop against the edge of the box.

Cap and shake
Cap the bottle and shake until no powder is left. This box mixes thinner than the standard Stage 2 — that is the missing starch, not an error.

Cool, test, feed
Cool to about 37°C, test a drop on the inside of your wrist, and feed straight away.
Never use artificially softened water or water that has been boiled more than once. Prepare a fresh bottle for every feed, never reheat, never microwave, and discard anything left 1 hour after your baby starts drinking.

Why is my bottle of HiPP Stage 2 No Starch thinner than before?
Because the starch that thickened your previous bottle is not in this box. A prepared bottle of HiPP Stage 2 No Starch is noticeably runnier than standard HiPP Stage 2, and that is exactly what the product is meant to be. It is not a sign that you have under-measured the powder or that the formula has failed to dissolve. Keep the same one level 4.5g scoop per 30ml of water ratio and the concentration will be correct.
How much prepared formula does one box of HiPP Stage 2 No Starch make?
One 600g box makes approximately 153 fluid ounces of prepared formula, which works out at about 30 five-ounce bottles. At the typical consumption for a 6 to 12 month old who is exclusively formula fed, that comes to roughly 3 to 4 boxes per month. Babies who are well established on solid food will usually use less than that.
Can I use HiPP Stage 2 No Starch if my baby has a cow's milk allergy?
No. HiPP Stage 2 No Starch is made from organic skimmed cow's milk with intact milk protein, so it is not suitable for a baby with a diagnosed or suspected cow's milk protein allergy. A baby with diagnosed CMPA needs an extensively hydrolysed or amino-acid formula prescribed by a doctor. Speak to your paediatrician before changing formula if you suspect an allergy rather than ordinary digestive discomfort.
What comes before and after HiPP Stage 2 No Starch?
