Holle Mango Monkey Organic Mango with Yogurt Pouch, 85 g, from 8 months
Mango Monkey is an organic yogurt pouch for babies from 8 months: mango puree at 58 percent with pasteurized organic yogurt at 39 percent, a little starch and a touch of lemon juice concentrate. The pouch holds 85 g, it is gluten-free, and it contains no added sugar ingredient. Because the yogurt is real dairy, this is a vegetarian pouch rather than a vegan one.
The reason to reach for a yogurt pouch rather than a plain fruit one is the dairy. Yogurt brings protein and fat that a fruit puree does not, which makes this a more substantial few mouthfuls than a fruit-only pouch of the same size. At 39 percent the yogurt is not a flavoring, it is close to two-fifths of what is in the pouch.
Mango is the fruit, and at 58 percent it is the majority of the recipe. Mango is sweet and soft enough to puree smoothly, and it pairs with yogurt without needing anything added to bridge the two. The lemon juice concentrate is the smallest entry and does the job a little acidity does in any dairy recipe.
Everything agricultural in it is certified organic, marked with a single asterisk in the declaration. There is no added sugar, no sweetener, no flavoring, no coloring and no preservative in the list. The only non-fruit, non-dairy entries are the starch, which sets the texture, and the lemon juice concentrate.
The pouch is resealable, which is the practical argument for the format: 85 g is more than some babies will take in one sitting, and the cap means the rest goes back in the fridge rather than in the bin. Unopened it needs no refrigeration at all, which is why a pouch like this is the one that lives in a bag.

Where it fits
Where a yogurt pouch sits in the weaning day
Holle positions these yogurt pouches as a snack between meals or on the go, and that is the honest slot. At eight months a baby is taking two or three solid meals a day, and a yogurt pouch is the thing that fills the gap between them without being a meal in its own right.
It also works as the dessert end of a meal. A savory vegetable course followed by a few spoons of mango and yogurt is a familiar shape of meal, and the dairy makes it more filling than a fruit pouch would be in the same position.
Eight months is the age at which plain yogurt commonly enters a baby's diet, and a pouch like this is one way to introduce it: the dairy arrives already mixed with a sweet fruit rather than on its own. If cow's milk dairy has not yet been offered in any form, this pouch brings it alongside mango, so watch the first one as you would any new food.
If you are avoiding dairy
This is not the pouch for you. The yogurt is 39 percent of the recipe and it is real pasteurized cow's milk yogurt, not a plant alternative. Holle's plain fruit pouches are the dairy-free option: Kiwi Koala is pear, banana and kiwi with nothing else in it, and Holle labels it lactose-free and vegan.
Serving
How to serve a Mango Monkey pouch
Feed it with a spoon, and refrigerate what is left
Holle is firm on both points. Squeeze the puree onto a spoon or into a bowl and feed it from there, and do not let your baby suck on the pouch continuously, because that causes tooth decay. Because this pouch contains dairy, the opened keeping time is shorter than for a fruit pouch: 24 hours in the refrigerator.

Cap awayKeep out of reach
1
Check the pouch, then shake it
Make sure the pouch and seal are intact before opening. A shake evens out any separation, which a yogurt recipe is more prone to than a plain fruit one.
2
Unscrew the cap and keep hold of it
Holle asks specifically that the screw cap be kept out of reach of children. It is a choking hazard in its own right, so it goes in a pocket rather than on the tray.
3
Squeeze onto a spoon or into a bowl
A bowl is easier for a whole pouch; a spoon at the nozzle works for a few mouthfuls. Either way the puree reaches your baby on a spoon, not by sucking.
4
Serve it as it comes
No heating is needed and none is specified. Unopened the pouch is shelf-stable, so it is ready at room temperature straight from a bag.
5
Reseal and refrigerate immediately
Screw the cap back on and get it into the fridge. Holle states this pouch can be stored in the refrigerator for 24 hours after opening, which is half the window a plain fruit pouch gets, because of the dairy.
6
Discard it after 24 hours
Once that window has passed, throw the rest away rather than offering it. A dairy product that has been open and warm is not worth the risk.
No serving size and no daily portion are published for this pouch, so none is given here. The pouch holds 85 g, and how much of that is one serving depends on where it falls in your baby's day.
Do not let your baby suck on the pouch continuously. Holle's own notes for this pouch are three: feed the puree with a spoon, do not allow your baby to suck continuously in order to avoid tooth decay, and keep the screw cap out of reach of children. Once opened it keeps for 24 hours in the refrigerator. This pouch contains milk.
Two declarations
A note on the recipe: Holle has revised this pouch
The declaration carried for the pouch sold here and the declaration Holle currently publishes for Mango Monkey are not the same. Both are set out below rather than merged, because they describe two versions of the recipe and the pouch in your hand governs.

The two agree exactly on the yogurt at 39 percent and on the presence of starch and lemon juice concentrate. They differ on the mango share and on whether banana is in the recipe at all. Everything stated elsewhere on this page as a figure, including the arithmetic, uses the declaration for the pouch sold here.
If your pouch lists banana, you have the revised recipe, and the mango figure on this page will read high for it. Neither version contains added sugar, and both are gluten-free dairy recipes, so the practical guidance on this page holds for either.
Ingredients and allergens
What is in it
Contains milk
Yogurt is 39 percent of this pouch, so it contains milk and is not suitable for a baby avoiding dairy. Holle labels the pouch gluten-free and vegetarian. No may-contain or trace declaration is published for it on any source we can read, which is worth knowing rather than reading as an assurance. Read your own pouch before a first taste.

* ingredients from organic farming.
The declaration carried for this pouch spells the dairy entry in the British manner. It is reproduced above in American spelling; the ingredient itself is unchanged.
Holle labels this pouch organic, vegetarian and gluten free, describes it as made from organic milk, and states that it can be stored unrefrigerated before opening, which is what makes it convenient to carry. Once opened it keeps for 24 hours in the refrigerator.
Holle's current artwork for Mango Monkey declares a different recipe: yogurt 39%, mango puree 38%, banana puree 8%, rice starch 2% and lemon juice concentrate. The declaration above is the one carried by the pouch sold here. Both are set out in full in the section above and neither has been merged into the other.
No nutrition table is published for this pouch on Holle's own site or at any authorized retailer we can read, so none is given. Nothing has been estimated and no figures have been carried across from another Holle yogurt pouch.
Four entries. Mango and yogurt together are 97 percent of the pouch, leaving the starch and the lemon juice concentrate to share the remaining 3 percent. There is no added sugar, no sweetener, no flavoring, no coloring and no preservative in the list, and the sweetness is the mango's own.

What an 85 g pouch gives you
The pouch holds 85 g. Because it is a puree rather than a drink there is no prepared volume to work out, so the useful arithmetic is the split between the mango and the yogurt.

Holle gives none for this pouch
The ounce conversion and the three gram figures are arithmetic from the declared percentages and the 85 g net content, and are labeled as such. If your pouch carries Holle's revised declaration, the mango figure will be lower and some of it will be banana; see the two-declarations section above.
No monthly usage figure is published for yogurt pouches. Those estimates exist for infant formula, where a baby's whole intake is measurable, but a pouch is a snack or a dessert and how many you get through is a matter of how often you reach for one. We have not invented a figure.

Questions parents ask
Frequently asked questions
From what age can my baby have this pouch?
From 8 months, which is the age on this product and the same age Holle gives on its own page. Eight months is also roughly when plain cow's milk yogurt commonly enters a baby's diet.
Does it contain dairy?
Yes. Pasteurized organic yogurt is 39 percent of the pouch, so it contains milk. Holle labels it vegetarian rather than vegan, and it is not suitable for a baby avoiding dairy.
Is it gluten-free?
Holle labels this pouch gluten free, and there is no cereal in the four-item declaration. No may-contain statement is published for it, so if coeliac disease is involved, rely on the declaration printed on your own pouch.
Does it contain added sugar?
No sugar, syrup or sweetener appears in the declaration. The sweetness comes from the mango, which is 58 percent of the pouch.
Why does the ingredient list on my pouch look different?
Because Holle has revised this recipe. The pouch sold here declares mango puree at 58 percent with no banana; Holle's current artwork declares yogurt at 39 percent, mango at 38 percent, banana at 8 percent and rice starch at 2 percent. Both declarations are set out in full above, and the pouch in your hand is the one that governs.
How long does it keep once opened?
Twenty-four hours in the refrigerator, with the cap screwed back on. That is half the window a plain fruit pouch gets, and the reason is the dairy. Unopened it needs no refrigeration at all.
Can my baby drink it straight from the pouch?
Holle asks you not to. Feed the puree with a spoon, and do not allow your baby to suck continuously, because that causes tooth decay. Squeeze it onto a spoon or into a bowl instead.
How big is the pouch?
85 g, which is about 3 oz. That content weight is stated on this product. Working from the declared percentages it is roughly 49 g of mango and 33 g of yogurt, which is our arithmetic rather than a published figure.
Is there a nutrition table?
Not one we can source. Holle publishes no nutrition panel for this pouch on its own site or through an authorized retailer, so this page gives none rather than estimating figures or borrowing them from another yogurt pouch.
What is the starch for?
Texture. A dairy and fruit mix needs something to hold it together, and the starch is what does that. It is one of the two smallest entries in the list, and Holle's revised declaration gives it as rice starch at 2 percent.
Written from this pouch's own ingredient declaration and feeding notes, which are the source of the mango puree at 58 percent, the pasteurized yogurt at 39 percent, the starch and the lemon juice concentrate, the organic-farming footnote, the content weight of 85 g, and the three instructions to feed the puree with a spoon, not to allow continuous sucking in order to avoid tooth decay, and to keep the screw cap out of reach, together with the 24-hour refrigerated keeping time after opening. The age of 8 months and the 85 g content weight are taken from the product itself and are authoritative. Holle's own current product page for Mango Monkey corroborates the age of from the 8th month, the yogurt at 39 percent, the presence of starch and lemon juice concentrate, the organic, vegetarian and gluten-free labeling, the description of the product as made from organic milk, and the statement that it can be stored unrefrigerated before opening. That page also declares a revised recipe, with yogurt at 39 percent, mango puree at 38 percent, banana puree at 8 percent and rice starch at 2 percent; the discrepancy is set out in full on the page in a dedicated section, both declarations are given unmerged, and every figure elsewhere on the page uses the declaration carried by the pouch sold here. The ounce conversion and the per-pouch weights of about 49 g mango, 33 g yogurt and 3 g starch and lemon juice are arithmetic from the declared percentages and the 85 g content, and are labeled as arithmetic. The declaration's British spelling of the dairy entry has been rendered in American spelling and that normalization is stated on the page. No nutrition table and no may-contain declaration are published for this pouch on any source we can read, so neither is given and nothing has been estimated or carried across from another Holle yogurt pouch. A claim that the pouch contains the right amount of protein to be gentle on a baby's digestion, previously carried for this product, is not reproduced, because it is a digestive health claim that no manufacturer literature supports.
