600g Box · German Version · From 6 Months

What is HiPP HA 2 Combiotik formula?

HiPP HA 2 Combiotik is a German hypoallergenic follow-on formula for babies from 6 months, made with partially hydrolysed whey protein to help reduce the risk of a cow's milk protein allergy developing in babies from allergy-prone families. One 600g box makes about 147 fl oz of prepared formula — roughly 29 five-ounce bottles.

It is the direct follow-on step from HiPP HA Stage 1 in the same German 600g line. The mechanism does not change between the two stages: the whey protein is broken down by hydrolysis into smaller fragments, at a figure HiPP publishes as roughly 86–87%, so an immature immune system is less likely to react to it. What changes at 6 months is the nutrient profile, adjusted for a baby who is also eating solid food.

Partially hydrolysed formula is not a treatment for a diagnosed milk allergy. HA formula reduces the risk of an allergy developing in babies who are currently healthy but have a family history of allergy, eczema, asthma or hay fever. HiPP's own instruction for this box is explicit: do not use it if your baby has an existing or suspected cow's milk protein allergy. A diagnosed allergy needs an extensively hydrolysed or amino-acid formula prescribed by a doctor.

HiPP HA is not EU Organic certified. There is no organic leaf on this box and we will not imply one. On its Bio Combiotik range HiPP marks every farmed ingredient as organic; on the HA range it marks none of them, so we cannot tell you the milk here is organically farmed — we checked HiPP's own ingredient declarations rather than trust the brand name.

What you are buying instead is the hydrolysis. The whey protein is broken into smaller fragments before the formula is made, and the specific hydrolysate HiPP uses has been assessed by the European Food Safety Authority for infant use. HiPP's certified organic line contains no hydrolysed product. If the certificate matters more to you than hydrolysed protein, buy HiPP Bio Combiotik instead.

HiPP does claim non-GMO for this formula. Otherwise the Combiotik system is intact: GOS prebiotic at 0.4g per 100ml plus HiPP's lactic acid culture.

Use it from 6 months alongside solid food, on its own or with breastfeeding. If your baby is already on HiPP HA Stage 1, this is the box that continues the same pathway with the same taste and the same scoop. Start — or stop — an HA formula on the advice of your paediatrician or health visitor.

What is not in HiPP HA 2 Combiotik?

No starch, no maltodextrin and no added sugar — lactose accounts for about 7.1g of the 7.2g of carbohydrate. The whey protein is hydrolysed rather than intact, and HiPP claims non-GMO for this box. What is not on it is an organic certificate: HiPP HA 2 Combiotik is not EU Organic certified, and HiPP marks no ingredient in it as organically produced. It does contain palm oil and fish oil.

Comparison

How does HiPP HA 2 Combiotik compare to Aptamil HA 2 and HiPP HA Dutch Stage 2?

All three are hydrolysed follow-on formulas and none of the three is organic certified. The differences worth paying for are the oil blend, the probiotic strain and the pack size — and on pack size, this 600g box is the smallest of the three.

Being straight with you: this is the smallest pack of the three, so a pack-price comparison flatters it — work out cost per prepared ounce and it is usually the most expensive of the three per ounce. Aptamil HA 2 lists no palm oil in its oil blend and runs two prebiotics rather than one, both genuine advantages this box does not have. HiPP HA Dutch Stage 2 is nutritionally the same numbers in an 800g tin that goes further. What this box has going for it is that it is the exact German sibling of HiPP HA Stage 1 — same line, same taste, same scoop — and the smaller size is genuinely the right one if you are not yet sure how long your baby will stay on an HA formula.

Planning ahead

How many boxes of HA follow-on formula will my baby need per month?

A baby of 6 to 12 months who is exclusively formula fed typically uses about 3 to 5 boxes of HiPP HA 2 Combiotik per month. One 600g box makes roughly 147 fl oz of prepared formula, which is around 29 five-ounce bottles.

Once solid food is properly established, milk volumes usually level off or fall and a box lasts longer. Published estimates for this stage vary more than they do for Stage 1, so treat the range as a planning guide rather than a forecast, and reorder before you reach your last box.

Preparation

How do you prepare HiPP HA 2 Combiotik?

Sterilise everything, boil fresh water and let it cool, pour the measured water into the bottle first, then add the number of level scoops the feeding chart on your box gives for that volume. Shake vigorously until fully dissolved, cool to about 37°C, test a drop on your wrist and feed. Discard anything left one hour after your baby starts drinking.

1

Sterilise everything

Sterilise the bottle, teat, ring and cap, and wash your hands before you start.

2

Boil and cool

Boil fresh drinking water and let it cool before you mix, following the guidance printed on your box.

3

Water into the bottle first

Pour the measured water into the sterilised bottle before you add any powder — never the other way round.

4

Add level scoops

Add the number of level scoops the feeding chart on your box gives for that volume of water. Level each scoop, never heap or press it.

5

Cap and shake firmly

Hydrolysed powder dissolves more slowly than standard formula and smells stronger. Shake until no grains are left.

6

Cool, test, feed

Cool to about 37°C, test a drop on the inside of your wrist, and feed straight away.

Never use artificially softened water or water that has been boiled more than once. Prepare a fresh bottle for every feed, never reheat, never microwave, and discard anything left 1 hour after your baby starts drinking.

Please read before buying

HiPP HA 2 Combiotik is a follow-on formula for babies from 6 months, designed to reduce the risk of allergy in babies who do not have one. It is not suitable for a baby with an existing or suspected cow's milk protein allergy, who needs an extensively hydrolysed or amino-acid formula prescribed by a doctor. Breastfeeding is best for your baby — talk to your health visitor or doctor before starting or changing a formula.

Store boxes in a cool, dry place. Once opened, use the powder within the window printed on the pack. Never reheat or microwave prepared formula.

What hydrolysed formula smells like

Hydrolysed protein has a noticeably stronger, slightly bitter smell and taste than intact milk protein, and the powder takes more shaking to dissolve. Both are normal for every hydrolysed formula and neither means the box has spoiled. A baby moving up from HiPP HA Stage 1 will already know the taste; a baby switching in from a standard formula may need the change introduced across several feeds.

Questions parents ask

HiPP HA 2 Combiotik: frequently asked questions

Is HiPP HA 2 Combiotik suitable for a baby with a cow's milk protein allergy?

No. HiPP's own guidance for this formula is not to use it if your baby has an existing or suspected cow's milk protein allergy. Partial hydrolysis lowers the chance of an allergy developing in a baby who does not yet have one, but the protein fragments that remain can still trigger a reaction in a baby who is already allergic. Diagnosed CMPA needs an extensively hydrolysed or amino-acid formula prescribed by a doctor. If you suspect an allergy, speak to your paediatrician before changing formula.

Is HiPP HA 2 Combiotik organic?

No. HiPP HA 2 Combiotik is not EU Organic certified, and it is not Demeter or Bioland certified either. HiPP marks every farmed ingredient as organic on its Bio Combiotik range and marks none of them on its HA range, so we cannot tell you the milk here is organically farmed. HiPP's certified organic line contains no hydrolysed product. HiPP does claim non-GMO for this box. If organic certification matters more to you than hydrolysed protein, HiPP Stage 2 Bio Combiotik is the certified option at the same age.

What is the difference between HiPP HA 2 Combiotik and HiPP HA Dutch Stage 2?

They are two genuinely different regional products rather than duplicate listings. HiPP HA 2 Combiotik is the German-market formula, sold in a 600g box; HiPP HA Dutch Stage 2 is the Netherlands-market formula, sold in an 800g tin with Dutch-language packaging. Their published nutrition figures per 100ml are the same, so the practical differences are pack size, cost per prepared ounce and which label you prefer to read. The Dutch tin generally goes further per pack.

Does my baby need to stay on an HA formula after 6 months?

That is a question for your health visitor or paediatrician rather than one to decide from the shelf. HA formula is preventive, aimed at babies with a family history of allergy, and the case for continuing it changes as a baby's diet broadens with solid food. Some families continue on HiPP HA 2 through the follow-on stage; others move to a standard follow-on formula such as HiPP Stage 2 Bio Combiotik, which is EU Organic certified. Ask before you switch either way.

Why does HiPP HA 2 smell and taste stronger than ordinary formula?

Because the whey protein has been broken into smaller fragments, which gives hydrolysed formula a stronger and slightly more bitter smell and taste than intact milk protein. The powder also takes more shaking to dissolve fully. Both are characteristic of every hydrolysed formula on the market rather than a fault with a particular box. A baby coming up from HiPP HA Stage 1 will already be used to it.

How much prepared formula does one box of HiPP HA 2 Combiotik make?

One 600g box makes approximately 147 fluid ounces of prepared formula, which is about 29 five-ounce bottles. For a baby of 6 to 12 months who is exclusively formula fed, that typically works out at 3 to 5 boxes per month. Babies who are well established on solid food will generally use fewer, as milk volumes level off once other foods take over part of the diet.

What comes before and after HiPP HA 2 Combiotik?

Before it comes HiPP HA Stage 1, the German 600g hydrolysed infant formula suitable from birth to around 6 months, or HiPP HA Pre Combiotik for the newborn weeks. HiPP HA 2 Combiotik itself covers babies from 6 months as part of a mixed diet with solid food, and can be used alongside breastfeeding. There is no HA Stage 3 in this German line, so the step after it is usually a standard growing-up milk, chosen with your health professional.
