How many cans will my baby need?
Running out mid-week means a late-night store run, or switching formula on your baby. Work out how much to keep on hand.

Breast milk is best for babies. These are stock-planning estimates, not feeding advice. Every baby is different — always follow the feeding table on the can and your paediatrician's guidance on how much your baby should actually take.
Ranges assume the standard one-scoop-per-30ml preparation. Real usage shifts with growth spurts, starting solids, and how much formula ends up on the floor.
What is Kendamil Stage 3 Nature toddler milk?
Kendamil Stage 3 Nature is a British toddler milk formula for children from 12 to 36 months, made from whole milk and skimmed milk, with no palm oil, no fish oil and no maltodextrin. It is HMO-fortified but, unlike Stage 1 and Stage 2, it is not organic certified. This listing is a single 800g can — about 196 fl oz of prepared formula, roughly 39 five-ounce bottles.
Start with the honest part, because it is the first thing a shopper standing in front of both Kendamil toddler cans needs to know. Stage 3 Nature loses the organic seal that Stage 1 and Stage 2 carry. The added vitamins and minerals needed to hit toddler-stage nutrient targets make the recipe ineligible under EU organic rules. That is a formulation trade-off, not a quality failure — but if an organic certificate through to 36 months is what you are shopping for, Kendamil Organic Stage 3 is the can that keeps it.
What Stage 3 Nature gains in exchange is the prebiotic system. It carries an explicitly named HMO — 3'-GL — alongside galacto-oligosaccharides, which Kendamil Organic Stage 3 does not. The two cans genuinely trade strengths at this stage rather than one simply beating the other, and that flip is the clearest difference in the whole Nature versus Organic question.
It is still built the Kendamil way: whole milk first — 211g of liquid milk per 100g of powder, the highest in this line — rather than skimmed milk rebuilt entirely from vegetable oils, which is how most European toddler formula is made. The protein is casein-dominant, which digests more slowly and paces satiety between meals. It is made in Kendal, in the English Lake District, by the only British-owned formula manufacturer. Think of it as a nutritional safety net for a picky eater — a source of iron, DHA and vitamin D alongside family food, not a primary source of nutrition the way Stage 1 and Stage 2 are.
What's in Kendamil Stage 3 Nature per 100ml?
Prepared as directed, every 100ml provides 289 kJ / 69 kcal, 3.5g fat of which 1.4g is saturated, 1.6g casein-dominant protein and 15.9mg DHA sourced from microalgae. The prebiotic system is galacto-oligosaccharides plus a named HMO, 3'-GL, and the carbohydrate is lactose. Calcium and carbohydrate grams are not published for this can — read the panel on your own can for those.

Rather than print a figure our sources do not agree on, here is what each part of the recipe is actually doing. Kendamil does not publish a calcium figure or a whey-to-casein split for this can anywhere we could find, and several retailer panels for Kendamil's toddler milks disagree with the manufacturer's own — so the panel printed on the can in your hand is the only number worth trusting.
| Ingredient | What it is there for |
|---|---|
| Whole milk (211g liquid milk per 100g powder) | The base of the recipe and the source of natural milk fat, rather than fat rebuilt entirely from vegetable oils |
| Lactose and skimmed milk | The carbohydrate and the protein backbone — no maltodextrin, no corn syrup, no added sugar |
| Vegetable oils (sunflower, coconut, rapeseed) | Balance the fat profile. No palm oil is used at any point |
| Galacto-oligosaccharides + 3'-GL | Prebiotic fibre and a named human milk oligosaccharide, feeding gut bacteria rather than the toddler directly |
| Microalgae oil (Schizochytrium sp.) | The DHA source — vegetarian, and the reason there is no fish oil in the can |
| Iron, vitamin D, vitamin A, zinc, iodine | The nutrients toddler diets most often fall short on, and the reason this can is not organic certified |

Why is Kendamil made from whole milk instead of skimmed milk?
Because the fat is where the milk fat globule membrane lives. Kendamil builds Stage 3 Nature on whole milk — 211g of liquid milk per 100g of powder — and keeps its natural fat in place, rather than starting from skimmed milk and rebuilding the fat entirely from vegetable oils, which is how most toddler formula in Europe is made.
Be precise about what this stage does and does not use. Stage 1 and Stage 2 are whole milk plus organic cream. Stage 3 is whole milk plus skimmed milk, with no cream — the same whole-milk-first philosophy, applied a little leaner for an age group that is also eating family food. What stays constant across all three is that the starting material is real milk rather than a skimmed base with the fat engineered back in, and that no palm oil goes into the blend at any stage.

Figures are schematic illustrations of the difference in fat structure, not to scale and not microscopy. MFGM is a compositional characteristic of a whole-milk base, not a separately added ingredient, and Kendamil does not market it as a Stage 3 claim.
What is not in Kendamil Stage 3 Nature?
No palm oil, no fish oil, no maltodextrin, no corn syrup and no added sugar. The DHA comes from microalgae rather than fish, which makes the formula suitable for vegetarian families, and it is non-GMO and gluten-free. What is also not on this can is an organic seal — Stage 3 is not EU Organic certified, and we would rather say so here than bury it.

Contains milk. Not organic certified at this stage. Kendamil is not Demeter or Bioland certified at any stage — those standards belong to other brands we stock.
How does Kendamil Stage 3 Nature compare to Kendamil Organic Stage 3 and Holle Stage 4?
At the toddler stage the usual Kendamil trade-off inverts. Stage 3 Nature is the only one of the three that is not organic certified, and the only one with a named HMO. Kendamil Organic Stage 3 keeps its Soil Association seal and adds Red Tractor. Holle Stage 4 is EU Organic but not Demeter certified, and it is skimmed-milk based with palm oil, starch and maltodextrin.

Being straight with you: if organic certification is what you are here for, this is not your can. Kendamil Organic Stage 3 is the only Kendamil toddler milk that keeps an organic seal all the way to 36 months, and Holle Stage 4 is EU Organic certified, though unlike Holle's Stages 1 to 3 it does not carry Demeter either. We stock both. Note also that Holle comes in a 600g carton against these 800g cans, so compare price per ounce rather than per pack. Two cells above read "see product page" rather than a number, because our sources for Kendamil Organic Stage 3 and Holle Stage 4 genuinely disagree on those figures and we would rather send you to the panel than average two answers. Stage 3 Nature's real advantages are the named HMO, the whole-milk-first base, the lactose-only carbohydrate and a palm-oil-free, fish-oil-free recipe — not certification.
How many cans of formula will my toddler need per month?
A toddler typically uses about 2 cans of Kendamil Stage 3 Nature per month, the lowest of the three stages in this line, because by this age formula supplements a family diet rather than anchoring it. One 800g can makes roughly 196 fl oz of prepared formula, which is about 39 five-ounce bottles or cups.
This is also the least predictable stage. Some families give one cup a day as a top-up for a picky eater and get well over a month from a can; others use it two or three times a day through a fussy patch and go through more. Plan loosely, and reassess every few weeks as your toddler's eating changes.
Estimates from standard feeding guidelines rather than manufacturer-published figures, and unusually variable at the toddler stage. Use these for planning, not as a target.
How do you prepare Kendamil Stage 3 Nature?
Boil fresh water and let it cool to no more than 50°C / 122°F, pour the measured water into a clean bottle or cup first, then add the number of level scoops your can's feeding chart gives for your toddler's age, shake or stir to dissolve, cool to a comfortable drinking temperature and serve. Discard anything left after 1 hour.
Clean everything
Wash the cup or bottle, teat or lid and the scoop thoroughly, and wash your hands before you start.
Boil and cool to 50°C
Boil fresh drinking water and let it cool to no more than 50°C / 122°F before you use it.
Water into the cup first
Pour the measured water in before you add any powder — never the other way round.
Add level scoops
Add the number of level scoops your can's feeding chart gives for your toddler's age, levelling each one with the back of a clean knife.
Cap and shake
Put the lid on and shake or stir well until the powder has fully dissolved with no lumps left.
Cool, test, serve
Cool to a comfortable drinking temperature, test a drop on your wrist, and serve straight away.
A note on water temperature. Kendamil specifies water at no more than 50°C for this formula, and that is the instruction printed on your can. It is set deliberately — hotter water damages the heat-sensitive vitamins this formula is built around.
Many health authorities, including the NHS and WHO, advise 70°C or hotter for any powdered formula, because powder is not sterile and that temperature kills bacteria that can occasionally be present. The difference matters most for newborns, premature babies, and babies with weakened immunity. If your baby is in one of those groups, ask your paediatrician or health visitor which to follow for your situation.
Please read before buying
Toddler milk is a supplement to a varied diet, not a replacement for one, and it is only for children over 12 months. This is a cow's milk product and not suitable for a child with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy. Breastfeeding is best for your baby — talk to your health visitor or doctor before starting or changing a formula, and before deciding whether your toddler needs a growing-up milk at all.
Store cans in a cool, dry place. Once opened, use within the period printed on the can. Never reheat or microwave prepared formula.
Packaging & cans
Formula cans are thin-walled metal and can pick up dents under pressure in transit. A dent in the outer can does not affect the sealed powder inside. If a seal is ever broken or the powder looks or smells wrong, do not use it — message us and we will replace it.
Kendamil Stage 3 Nature: frequently asked questions
What age is Kendamil Stage 3 Nature for?
Kendamil Stage 3 Nature is a toddler milk for children from 12 to 36 months. Before it comes Kendamil Bio Nature Stage 2, the follow-on milk for 6 to 12 months. After 36 months most children need no formula at all, just a varied diet and ordinary milk.
Is Kendamil Stage 3 Nature organic?
No. Kendamil dropped the Bio from this can — the new packaging reads Nature, not Bio Nature, and it is not organic certified. The added vitamins and minerals required to meet toddler-stage nutrient targets make the recipe ineligible for the organic label under EU rules, so Kendamil does not claim it. Stage 1 and Stage 2 of the Bio Nature line are organic certified. If you want an organic-certified Kendamil toddler milk, Kendamil Organic Stage 3 keeps its Soil Association seal through to 36 months.
What is the difference between Kendamil Nature and Kendamil Organic at Stage 3?
At Stage 3 the two cans swap strengths, which is the sharpest divergence anywhere in the Kendamil range. Stage 3 Nature is HMO-fortified with a named 3'-GL and has a published DHA figure of 15.9mg per 100ml, but it is not organic certified. Kendamil Organic Stage 3 is Soil Association organic and Red Tractor assured, but has no named HMO and its published DHA and calcium figures differ between sources. It is a genuine trade-off, not one can being better than the other.
Does my toddler actually need toddler milk?
Often, no. Several pediatric bodies are clear that growing-up milks are not medically necessary for a child eating a varied diet, and we would rather tell you that than sell you something you do not need. Where a can like this genuinely earns its place is as a nutritional safety net — a reliable source of iron, vitamin D and DHA for a picky eater, a child going through a fussy patch, or one whose solid-food intake swings week to week. Talk to your health visitor if you are unsure.
How much prepared formula does one 800g can make?
One 800g can of Kendamil Stage 3 Nature makes approximately 196 fluid ounces of prepared formula, which works out at roughly 39 servings of 5 fl oz, or about 5.8 litres. Actual yield depends on how accurately each scoop is levelled. For planning, a typical toddler uses about 2 cans per month, though usage at this stage varies far more than at Stage 1 or Stage 2 because formula supplements the diet rather than anchoring it.
Does Kendamil Stage 3 Nature contain HMOs?
Yes. Stage 3 carries an explicitly named human milk oligosaccharide, 3'-galactosyllactose, alongside galacto-oligosaccharide prebiotic fibre. HMOs are the non-digestible carbohydrates found naturally in breast milk that feed beneficial gut bacteria rather than the child directly. This is one of the two things Stage 3 Nature has that Kendamil's organic-certified toddler can does not — the other is the higher published DHA figure.
Does it contain palm oil or fish oil?
Neither. The DHA comes from Schizochytrium microalgae oil rather than fish oil, which makes the formula suitable for vegetarian families. The fat blend uses sunflower, coconut and rapeseed oils with no palm oil — Kendamil is the only major European formula brand that leaves palm oil out across its entire range, at every stage. There is also no maltodextrin, no corn syrup and no added sugar in this can.
Can I just give my toddler cow's milk instead?
From 12 months whole cow's milk is a perfectly normal main drink for most toddlers, and it is cheaper. The argument for a toddler formula is fortification: iron, vitamin D and DHA at levels plain cow's milk does not provide. If your child eats a broad diet, cow's milk is usually enough. If they are a genuinely restricted or fussy eater, a fortified toddler milk can bridge the gap. This is a good question for your health visitor rather than for a product page.
