The ingredient deck opens with organic whey product, water, organic skimmed milk, organic cream and organic lactose, followed by a sunflower and rapeseed oil blend — there is no palm oil in it. Water appears high on the list because this is a liquid blended to its final concentration during manufacture rather than by you at the bottle. Galacto-oligosaccharides supply the GOS prebiotic, and lecithin is the only emulsifier. The full EU-mandated vitamin and mineral spread completes the recipe, including vitamins A, B1, B6, B12, C, D, E and K, biotin, niacin and pantothenic acid.

Why choose ready-to-feed formula instead of powder?
Because there is nothing left to get wrong. A sealed bottle of ready-to-feed formula is sterile until you open it and is already blended to the correct concentration at the factory, so the two things most likely to go wrong with a bottle — water that was not hot enough, and a scoop that was heaped or short — simply do not exist. You shake, pour and feed.
Powder is not a sterile product, which is why every powder tin tells you to make the bottle with water at around 70°C and to use it quickly. That is easy at your own kitchen counter and awkward at a daycare, a restaurant table or the back of a car. Ready-to-feed removes the water question entirely, which is also why it is the format most nurseries find simplest to accept.

Being straight with you: for everyday feeding at home, HiPP Stage 2 Bio Combiotic powder is the better buy and we would rather say so. One 600g box makes about 153 fl oz of prepared formula — nearly four times what a six-bottle case of this liquid makes — at a fraction of the cost per ounce, it carries slightly more calcium per 100ml, and its ingredient list names the L. fermentum hereditum culture and gives a DHA figure that the liquid's published panel does not. What this liquid buys you is sterility in the sealed bottle, zero preparation and a pre-portioned feed you can hand to a nursery. It also leaves out the palm oil and starch that the powder contains. Our honest advice is to run both: powder at home, liquid in the daycare bag.

Unlike the newborn stage, the trend from here is downwards: as meals, snacks and water take over more of the day, milk volume falls. Shake the sealed bottle, pour what you need into a clean sterilised feeding bottle or beaker, and serve it at room temperature or gently warmed to about 37°C in a bottle warmer or a bowl of warm water. HiPP 2 Bio Combiotik Ready-to-Feed is a follow-on milk for babies from 6 months of age, used alongside solid food rather than instead of it. There is no need to switch on your baby's six-month birthday — many parents finish the stage they are on first and move across gradually.

Demeter is a separate and stricter biodynamic standard that belongs to parts of the Holle range; HiPP does not carry it on any product we stock, and we would rather correct that than let the word do work it has not earned.
