What is HiPP Kindermilch 2+?
HiPP Kindermilch 2+ is a German EU Organic certified toddler milk for children from 24 months, made from skimmed milk with lactose as its carbohydrate and fortified with calcium, iron, zinc and DHA. It is lighter than the 1+ milk on purpose. One 600g box makes roughly 57 cups of 150ml — about 290 fl oz.
By two, a child is eating three meals and snacks, and the job of a milk drink has changed. It no longer needs to carry much energy — that comes off the plate now — but the micronutrients that are genuinely hard to get from a toddler's typical diet still matter. So 2+ steps the calories and fat down while keeping the calcium at 120mg and the iron at 1.2mg per 100ml, exactly where 1+ had them.
That is the whole design logic, and it is the honest reason to buy this box rather than simply carrying on with 1+: the same fortification, less of the energy your two-year-old is already getting from food. At 51 kcal per 100ml it is also lighter than whole cow's milk, which is useful if milk is crowding out meals.
It is the last step in HiPP's organic Combiotik journey and it carries the same system as the rest of the line — GOS prebiotic fibre made from lactose, the Lactobacillus fermentum hereditum culture, and Metafolin, the bioactive form of folate. No added starch, no maltodextrin, no added sucrose.
And the certification, stated plainly because our own listing used to state it wrong: HiPP Kindermilch 2+ is EU Organic certified, not Demeter. HiPP does not hold Demeter on anything. Demeter is the biodynamic standard that belongs to Holle in our catalogue.
What's in HiPP Kindermilch 2+ per 100ml?
Prepared as directed, every 100ml provides 51 kcal, 2.9g fat, 1.0g protein, 5.0g carbohydrate, 120mg calcium, 1.2mg iron, 0.75mg zinc and 7.7mg DHA from fish oil. The prebiotic is GOS made from lactose and the culture is Lactobacillus fermentum hereditum.

Also contains Metafolin (calcium-L-methylfolate), biotin, potassium iodate and vitamins A, B2, B12, C and D. Declared allergens: milk and fish.
What is the difference between HiPP Kindermilch 1+ and 2+?
2+ is the lighter milk. Energy drops from 54 to 51 kcal per 100ml, fat from 3.0g to 2.9g, protein from 1.1g to 1.0g and DHA from 8.1mg to 7.7mg — while calcium stays at 120mg and iron at 1.2mg. Less energy, the same fortification.
That is not a downgrade, it is the point. A two-year-old eating three meals a day gets plenty of calories from food; what tends to fall short is calcium, iron, vitamin D and long-chain omega-3. A milk drink that keeps those steady while taking energy out is easier to fit around meals rather than instead of them.
There is a practical difference too: the scoop in a 2+ box weighs 3.5g against 3.6g in a 1+ box, and both mix three level scoops into 135ml of water. Do not swap scoops between boxes — always use the one that came with the box you are opening.
When to move across: at 24 months. There is nothing wrong with staying on 1+ past a child's second birthday, and nothing gained by switching early — 2+ is not formulated for a one-year-old. If your child is under two, buy 1+ instead.
Darker bars show the 2+ value against the 1+ value in grey. Differences are small and drawn to scale, which is the point — this is a trim, not a reformulation.
Toddler milk supplements a varied diet — it does not replace one. Talk to your paediatrician if you are worried about your child's growth or iron.
What is not in HiPP Kindermilch 2+?
No added starch, no maltodextrin and no added sucrose — lactose is the carbohydrate, which is still uncommon among toddler milks at this age. It is EU Organic certified. It does contain palm oil among its vegetable oils and fish oil for DHA, so it is not vegetarian.

How does HiPP Kindermilch 2+ compare to HiPP Kindermilch 1+ and Holle Stage 4?
2+ is the only one of the three formulated specifically for a child over two — both HiPP Kindermilch 1+ and Holle Stage 4 start at 12 months. Holle Stage 4 is the only one that is Demeter biodynamic certified. All three are EU Organic.

Being straight with you: if your child is not yet two, this is the wrong box — buy HiPP Kindermilch 1+ or Holle Stage 4 instead, and come back at 24 months. Holle Stage 4 also holds Demeter biodynamic certification, a stricter farming standard than the EU Organic certification HiPP holds; if that is your priority, Holle is the better box and we stock it. HiPP does not hold Demeter on anything, whatever this page used to say. What 2+ gives you that neither of the others does is a milk built for a two-year-old's appetite — lighter in energy, unchanged in calcium and iron — plus a lactose carbohydrate base where Holle Stage 4 adds starch and maltodextrin.
How many boxes of HiPP Kindermilch 2+ will my child need per month?
One 600g box makes roughly 57 cups of 150ml, about 290 fl oz in total — slightly more than a 1+ box, because the scoop is lighter. Published estimates put a child on two milk drinks a day at around 1.5 to 2 boxes a month.
At two, milk is a smaller part of the day than it was at one, and most families find a box lasts longer than they expect. Count the cups your child actually finishes rather than the cups you pour.
Estimates only. Toddler milk supplements solid food rather than replacing it, so how much your child drinks will vary week to week — use these for planning, not as a target.
How do you prepare HiPP Kindermilch 2+?
Boil fresh water and let it cool to around 45°C, pour 135ml of the measured water into a clean cup first, add 3 level 3.5g scoops, stir or shake until fully dissolved, cool to body temperature, check it and serve. That makes about 150ml — 5.1 fl oz. Discard anything not finished within an hour.
Clean everything
Wash your hands and use a thoroughly clean cup and scoop before you start.
Boil and cool to ~45°C
Boil fresh drinking water and let it cool to roughly 45 degrees Celsius before mixing.
Water in first
Measure 135ml of the cooled water into the cup before you add any powder — never the other way round.
Add three level scoops
Add 3 level 3.5g scoops using the scoop from this box, levelling each against the edge — never heap it.
Stir or shake
Stir or shake until fully dissolved and no powder is left clinging to the sides. This makes about 150ml.
Cool, check, serve
Cool under running water to about 37°C, check the temperature yourself, then serve in an open cup.

HiPP Kindermilch 2+ is a toddler milk drink for children from 24 months, not an infant formula and not a sole source of nutrition. It is intended to supplement a varied diet of solid food, and it is not suitable for babies or for children under two — for a one-year-old, use HiPP Kindermilch 1+ instead. Breastfeeding is best for your baby — talk to your health visitor or doctor before starting or changing a milk.
Store boxes in a cool, dry place, away from steam and direct sun. Once opened, keep the inner bag folded closed and use the box within the period stated on the pack. Never reheat or microwave prepared milk.
Packaging & boxes
A minor cosmetic dent in the outer carton is not a safety problem — the powder sits in a sealed inner bag. What does matter is a carton that has been punctured, or an inner seal that is broken or already open. If you receive one like that, do not use it; message us and we will replace it.
HiPP Kindermilch 2+: frequently asked questions
When should I switch from HiPP Kindermilch 1+ to 2+?
At twenty-four months. HiPP Kindermilch 2+ is formulated for children from two years, and there is no benefit to moving across early — a one-year-old is better served by the slightly higher energy density of 1+. There is equally no harm in staying on 1+ for a while past your child's second birthday if you have boxes left. When you do switch, introduce the new box over a few days rather than changing in one go, since the taste is marginally lighter.
What is actually different between HiPP Kindermilch 1+ and 2+?
The fortification is essentially unchanged and the energy is trimmed. Per 100ml, 2+ provides 51 kcal against 54, 2.9g fat against 3.0, 1.0g protein against 1.1 and 7.7mg DHA against 8.1 — while calcium stays at 120mg and iron at 1.2mg in both. The scoop is also slightly lighter, 3.5g against 3.6g, though both mix three level scoops into 135ml of water. In short: the same nutritional support, less of the energy a two-year-old already gets from meals.
Is HiPP Kindermilch 2+ Demeter certified?
No. HiPP Kindermilch 2+ holds EU Organic certification only. Demeter is a separate, stricter biodynamic farming certification that HiPP does not hold on any of its products — in our catalogue Demeter belongs to Holle. An earlier version of this listing described the milk as Demeter certified; that was incorrect and has been removed. If biodynamic sourcing is what you want in a toddler milk, Holle Stage 4 is the product that genuinely carries it.
Does a two-year-old need toddler milk at all?
Not necessarily. A two-year-old eating a varied diet with iron-rich foods, dairy and some oily fish generally does not need a fortified milk, and plain cow's milk is cheaper and perfectly adequate. Toddler milk earns its place when eating is narrow or erratic, when meat and fish are refused, or when a family is concerned about iron or vitamin D intake. Several paediatric bodies consider toddler milks unnecessary for well-fed children, and that view is worth weighing.
How much prepared milk does one 600g box make?
Mixing three level 3.5-gram scoops with 135ml of water gives about 150ml, or 5.1 fluid ounces, per cup. A 600g box holds enough powder for roughly 57 of those cups, which comes to approximately 290 fluid ounces in total — a little more than a 1+ box makes, because the scoop is lighter. For a child having two milk drinks a day, published estimates put usage at around one and a half to two boxes a month.
Can my child drink it cold, straight from the fridge?
Prepare it fresh with cooled boiled water as directed rather than mixing it cold, because the powder dissolves poorly in cold water and the water should be boiled first. Once prepared and cooled, many two-year-olds happily drink it at room temperature or lightly chilled, which is fine as long as you serve it within the hour and do not reheat it. Never microwave prepared milk, and throw away anything left in the cup after an hour.
Does HiPP Kindermilch 2+ contain palm oil?
Yes. The vegetable oil blend in this box is palm, rapeseed and sunflower oil, so if you are specifically avoiding palm oil this is not the toddler milk for you. HiPP sources it under organic certification as part of the product's EU Organic status, but it is present. The DHA also comes from fish oil rather than algae, which means the milk is not vegetarian and carries fish alongside milk as a declared allergen.
