What is NannyCare Stage 3 Growing Up Milk?

NannyCare Stage 3 is a British-brand goat milk growing-up milk for toddlers from 1 to 3 years, made from whole New Zealand goat milk with no added whey, no palm oil and no maltodextrin. Our stock is listed as an 800g tin — please read the note on pack size below before you plan around a yield figure.

This is a toddler milk, not an infant formula, and that distinction is worth being honest about. Once a child over one eats a reasonably varied diet, most pediatric guidance treats a growing-up milk as optional rather than necessary. Where it earns its place is with a fussy eater, a child whose iron or vitamin D intake is a concern, or a child who spent the first year on goat formula and does not do well on plain cow's milk.

The recipe carries the nutrients that usually justify buying a toddler milk at all: 62mg calcium and 0.99mg iron per 100ml, 1.6µg of vitamin D, and 15mg of DHA — noticeably more DHA than some goat toddler milks at this stage. It is built on whole goat milk, which means the milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) is naturally present rather than added, and it keeps the brand's no-added-whey approach.

The mixing ratio changes at this stage, so do not carry a Stage 1 or Stage 2 habit across: Stage 3 uses a larger 5.1g scoop, four of them to 160ml of water, where the earlier stages use a 4.3g scoop per 30ml. Getting that wrong makes a bottle that is too concentrated or too weak.

NannyCare is not organic certified, at any stage — we would rather put that here than let softer language imply otherwise. Goat milk is naturally rich in A2 beta-casein, the protein type that forms softer, looser curds in the stomach, which is the whole reason families stay in this category past the first year. NannyCare Stage 2 is the follow-on milk before this one, and Stage 3 is the last step in the range.

What's in NannyCare Stage 3 per 100ml?

Prepared as directed, every 100ml provides 66 kcal, 3.4g fat, 1.3g protein, 7.4g carbohydrate — all of it lactose — 62mg calcium, 0.99mg iron, 1.6µg vitamin D, 9.3mg vitamin C and 15mg DHA. There is no maltodextrin, no glucose syrup and no added sugar.

On the DHA source, this is the stage where NannyCare looks furthest along in a change it is making across the whole range. The panel we hold for Stage 3 lists oil from the microalgae Schizochytrium rather than marine fish oil, which matches the brand's own current UK material — but Stages 1 and 2 still show fish oil in older documentation, so the range is genuinely mid-reformulation and both versions may be in circulation. We are not going to promise you a fish-free tin on that basis. If you are avoiding fish, read the ingredient panel before you open it, or message us and we will check the lot we are shipping.

The MFGM in this product is naturally occurring, because the formula is built on whole goat milk rather than skimmed milk with oils added back. That is a real formulation fact. We are deliberately not attaching a health outcome to it: MFGM is a fashionable ingredient in premium formula marketing and the research on what it does for a toddler is not settled.

Contains milk and milk products. Ingredient wording varies between production runs during a reformulation — the panel printed on your tin is the authority, not this page.

Toddler feeding

Should a toddler have goat growing-up milk instead of plain cow's milk?

Not necessarily. For a child over one eating a varied diet, most pediatric guidance treats plain milk as sufficient and a growing-up milk as optional. The honest case for NannyCare Stage 3 is narrower: a toddler who already does better on goat milk than cow's milk, or a fussy eater whose parents want the fortified iron, vitamin D and DHA that plain milk does not carry.

If your child spent the first year on goat formula because cow's milk formula left them windy or uncomfortable, handing them a large cup of plain cow's milk at twelve months is the single change most likely to undo that. Goat milk is predominantly A2 beta-casein, which forms a softer, looser curd in the stomach than the A1 protein in conventional cow's milk. That curd structure — not marketing language — is the mechanism behind the gentler-digestion claim, and it is why NannyCare specifies curd softness in the milk it buys.

Goat milk is not a treatment for cow's milk protein allergy. Around nine in ten children with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy react to goat casein as well, because the two proteins are closely related. A diagnosed allergy needs a prescribed formula from your doctor, at any age. Where goat milk is reasonable is the other case: mild, undiagnosed sensitivity or general unsettledness. Either way, ask your pediatrician — including the question of whether your toddler needs a growing-up milk at all, which is a fair thing to decide before you buy a tin.

Position 67 is the single amino-acid difference between the two protein variants. It changes how the chain breaks down during digestion, and with it how the curd sets.

What is not in NannyCare Stage 3?

No palm oil, no maltodextrin, no glucose syrups, no soya, no added sugar and no added whey powder. The only carbohydrate is lactose. It is also not organic certified — we would rather list that here than let the words "natural" and "pure" do work a certificate has not earned.

  • No palm oil
  • No maltodextrin
  • No glucose syrups
  • No soya
  • No added sugar
  • No added whey
  • Lactose only carbohydrate
  • Halal certified

Contains milk and milk products. Not organic certified at any stage. NannyCare markets itself as non-GMO, but we could not find a formal non-GMO certifying body behind that claim, so treat it as a brand statement rather than a certification. Kosher and vegetarian status are not confirmed, and the vegetarian question is tied to the DHA source noted above.

Comparison

How does NannyCare Stage 3 compare to NannyCare Stage 2 and Kendamil Goat Stage 3?

On the toddler nutrition spec Kendamil Goat Stage 3 is the stronger tin: far more calcium, more protein, added HMO, and halal, kosher and vegetarian certification in writing. NannyCare Stage 3 answers back with nearly twice the DHA, whole goat milk with naturally occurring MFGM, and no added whey.

Being straight with you: if you are choosing on the toddler nutrition spec alone, Kendamil Goat Stage 3 is the better tin. It carries 107mg of calcium against NannyCare's 62mg, 1.8g of protein against 1.3g, HMO fortification that arrives specifically at this stage, and halal, kosher and vegetarian certification all confirmed for that product. Neither brand is organic, so if an organic seal is the priority, Jovie Goat Stage 3 is EU Organic and we stock it. NannyCare Stage 3's real advantages are 15mg of DHA against Kendamil's 8.5mg, whole goat milk with its MFGM naturally present rather than a whey-added base, thirty years of goat-formula-specific research, and continuity for a child already used to the taste. If your child is not yet twelve months, NannyCare Stage 2 is the right tin.

Planning ahead

How many tins of growing-up milk will my toddler need per month?

The published planning figure is about 3 tins of NannyCare Stage 3 per month, but that assumes a toddler taking roughly four 160ml servings a day. On one or two cups a day — which is what many toddlers on a full solid diet actually drink — expect closer to 1 to 1.5 tins.

We would rather show the arithmetic than hand you a number that does not match your child. One 800g tin makes about 212 fl oz using this stage's ratio of four 5.1g scoops to 160ml. A 160ml serving is about 5.4 fl oz, so one a day is roughly 162 fl oz a month, or four-fifths of a tin; two a day is about 1.5 tins. The 3-tin figure only appears at around four servings a day. Pick the row that looks like your household.

The two lower rows are our own arithmetic on this stage's mixing ratio and tin yield; the 3-tin row is the commonly published planning figure. A growing-up milk is a top-up alongside food, so usage varies far more than it does with infant formula — use these for planning, not as a target.

Preparation

How do you prepare NannyCare Stage 3?

Use freshly boiled water every time, pour 160ml of it into a clean bottle or cup first, add four level 5.1g scoops — the larger Stage 3 scoop, not the 4.3g one from Stages 1 and 2 — shake well, test the temperature and serve, discarding anything not used within two hours.

1

Wash and clean

Wash your hands, and make sure the bottle or cup, lid and teat or spout are properly clean.

2

Boil fresh water

Use freshly boiled water for every feed and let it cool — never water that has been boiled more than once.

3

Water in first

Measure 160ml of the cooled water into the bottle or cup before you add any powder — never the other way round.

4

Four level scoops

Add four level 5.1g scoops, levelled with the back of a clean knife — this stage uses a bigger scoop than Stages 1 and 2.

5

Cap and shake

Put the cap on and shake well until the powder has fully dissolved, with nothing left on the sides.

6

Test, then serve

Test the temperature before serving, use it within two hours and throw away whatever is left.

Never use artificially softened water or water that has been boiled more than once. Make each serving fresh, use it within two hours and discard the rest — never reheat and never microwave. At this age a cup rather than a bottle is worth encouraging, and sipping milk slowly over long stretches is hard on teeth. Do not mix Stage 3 using the 4.3g scoop from an earlier stage, or the concentration will be wrong.

A note on water temperature. The mixing temperature for this milk is the one printed on your own tin, and that is the instruction to follow.

Many health authorities, including the NHS and WHO, advise 70°C or hotter for any powdered formula, because powder is not sterile and that temperature kills bacteria that can occasionally be present. The difference matters most for newborns, premature babies, and babies with weakened immunity. If your baby is in one of those groups, ask your paediatrician or health visitor which to follow for your situation.

Please read before buying

This product is not suitable for children with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy. Goat milk protein is closely related to cow milk protein and around nine in ten children with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy react to goat protein as well. A diagnosed allergy needs a prescribed formula from your doctor. The DHA source is part of a range-wide reformulation, so if your household avoids fish, check the ingredient panel on your tin. This is a growing-up milk, not a required part of a toddler's diet, and it must not replace solid meals — breast milk is best for babies, and it is worth asking your health visitor or doctor whether a toddler milk is needed at all.

Store tins in a cool, dry place. Once opened, use within the window printed on your tin. Never reheat or microwave prepared milk.

A note on pack size

NannyCare pack sizes are genuinely unsettled. Some sources list this tin as 900g and others as 800g, and the brand appears to have downsized at some point. Our own product data is set to 800g, and the ~212 fl oz yield above is derived from that plus this stage's four-scoops-to-160ml ratio — it is arithmetic, not a manufacturer figure. If the exact weight matters to you for cost or planning, message us before ordering and we will read the tin we are shipping. For the same reason we do not publish a price per 100g for this product.

Questions parents ask

NannyCare Stage 3: frequently asked questions

What age is NannyCare Stage 3 Growing Up Milk for?

NannyCare Stage 3 is for toddlers from 12 to 36 months — one to three years. It is a growing-up milk designed to sit alongside a varied solid-food diet rather than to be a sole source of nutrition. NannyCare Stage 2 Follow On Milk is the stage before it, covering 6 to 12 months, and Stage 3 is the last step in the NannyCare range.

Does my toddler actually need a growing-up milk?

Often not. Most pediatric guidance treats toddler milks as optional once a child over one eats a reasonably varied diet, with plain milk being sufficient. A fortified growing-up milk makes more sense for a fussy eater, for a child whose iron or vitamin D intake is a concern, or for a child who was on goat formula through the first year and does not do well on cow's milk. Ask your pediatrician rather than assuming you need it.

Can I use goat milk formula if my child has a cow's milk allergy?

No. NannyCare Stage 3 is not suitable for children with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy. Goat and cow milk proteins are structurally very similar, and around nine in ten children who react to cow's milk protein react to goat casein too. A diagnosed allergy needs a prescribed formula from your doctor. Goat milk is a reasonable gentler option for mild, undiagnosed sensitivity, but it is not an allergy treatment at any age.

Does NannyCare Stage 3 use fish oil or algal DHA?

The panel we hold for Stage 3 lists oil from the microalgae Schizochytrium, which matches NannyCare's own current UK material and makes this the stage furthest along in a change the brand appears to be making across its whole range. But Stages 1 and 2 still show marine fish oil in older documentation, so both versions may be in circulation. If you are avoiding fish, read the panel on your tin before you open it, or message us and we will check the lot we are shipping.

How do I mix NannyCare Stage 3, and why is it different?

Stage 3 uses four level 5.1g scoops to 160ml of freshly boiled and cooled water, where Stages 1 and 2 use one 4.3g scoop per 30ml. The scoop in this tin is physically larger and the mix is more concentrated, so do not carry an earlier stage's habit or an earlier stage's scoop across. Always put the water in first, shake until fully dissolved, and use the feed within two hours.

How big is the tin and how much does it make?

Our product data records an 800g tin, which works out at roughly 212 fluid ounces of prepared milk using this stage's four-scoops-to-160ml ratio — around 39 servings of 160ml. We should be straight that NannyCare pack sizes are not settled: some sources list this tin as 900g, which would put the yield nearer 239 fl oz, and the brand appears to have downsized at some point. The yield figure is our arithmetic on an 800g tin, not a published manufacturer number.

Is NannyCare Stage 3 organic, and what is MFGM?

It is not organic certified — NannyCare is not organic at any stage. MFGM is the milk fat globule membrane, the natural structure around the fat droplets in whole milk. It is present in this product because the formula is built on whole goat milk rather than skimmed milk with oils added back, so it is naturally occurring rather than added. It is a genuine formulation fact, but the research on what MFGM does for a toddler is not settled and we will not claim an outcome for it.

Because powdered milks are not sterile, failure to follow instructions may make your toddler ill.

1.      Wash your hands well.  Measure 160ml of cooled, freshly boiled water, into a clean beaker.

2.      Using the scoop provided, add 4 level scoops of powder.  Use the leveller that is built into the rim of the tin to make sure the scoop is not heaped.

3.      Put the lid on the beaker and shake well until the powder has dissolved.

4.      Test the temperature on the inside of your wrist.  If the drink is too warm, cool the beaker under a running cold tap. Test again before feeding.

Important Feeding Instructions

Use only the 5.1g measuring scoop provided.  Always add one level scoop of powder (5.1g) to each 40ml of cooled, boiled water.  For hygiene reasons, do not store made up feeds.  Use feeds within 2 hours at most.  Always use freshly boiled and cooled water.  Always discard unfinished feeds.  Make up each feed as required.  Do not heat in a microwave as hot spots may occur and cause scalding.  Do not add extra scoops of powder, or anything else, to your toddler’s drink. Do not leave your child alone during feeding.
