What is not in HiPP Dutch Stage 1?
No starch, no maltodextrin, no corn syrup, no added sugar and no soy — the only carbohydrate in this tin is lactose, the sugar already in milk. There are no artificial colours or preservatives, and the ingredients are non-GMO. Being straight with you: if certification is what you are shopping for, Holle Dutch Stage 1 is the stronger tin and we stock it — Demeter is a tier above EU Organic, and Holle's DHA comes from microalgae rather than fish oil, which matters if your family avoids fish. How do you prepare HiPP Dutch Stage 1?
Boil fresh water and let it cool to 40–50°C, pour the measured water into a sterilised bottle first, add one level scoop of powder (about 4.3g) per 30ml of water, cap and shake until it dissolves, then cool to about 37°C, test a drop on your wrist and feed. Make a fresh bottle for every feed.

Sterilise everything
Wash and sterilise the bottle, teat, ring and cap, and wash your hands before you start.

Boil and cool the water
Boil fresh tap water, then let it cool to 40–50°C before you measure it out.

Is HiPP Dutch Stage 1 the same as HiPP German Stage 1?
No. They are two separately manufactured products from the same company. The Dutch tin holds 800g and is labelled in Dutch for the Netherlands market; the German box holds 600g and is part of a seven-stage range that starts with a PRE step. Their nutrition panels differ slightly, and the German Stage 1 contains starch where this Dutch tin is lactose-only. Compare them on price per prepared ounce.
Is HiPP Dutch Stage 1 organic, and is it Demeter certified?
It is EU Organic certified, and HiPP applies its own internal organic standard on top of that. It is not Demeter certified, and no HiPP formula is — Demeter is a biodynamic certification held in our range by parts of the Holle line. If Demeter is your priority, Holle Dutch Stage 1 is the tin to look at instead.
Can I use this formula from birth, alongside breastfeeding?
Yes. It is a Stage 1 infant formula, nutritionally complete from birth, and HiPP's own Dutch guidance describes it as suitable either instead of or alongside breast milk. Combination feeding is common and does not require a different product. Breastfeeding is still the best start for your baby, so talk to your health visitor before you introduce or change a formula.
What carbohydrate does it use, and does it contain starch?
The only carbohydrate in this tin is lactose, the sugar naturally present in milk, and the ingredient list contains no starch, no maltodextrin and no corn syrup. What is the Combiotik culture, and what does GOS do?
Combiotik is HiPP's name for pairing a live culture with a prebiotic fibre. The culture here is Limosilactobacillus fermentum, a lactic acid bacterium of a type also found in breast milk. The prebiotic is GOS, galacto-oligosaccharides made from the milk's own organic lactose, which acts as food for gut bacteria. Holle's Dutch line contains neither.
How much prepared formula does one 800g tin make?
